Na samo trideset kilometara od Sao Paola nalazi se "Otok zmija", mjesto s najvećom koncentracijom zmija na cijelom planetu.

"Otok zmija" nalazi se u blizini "Ognjene zemlje", na samo tridesetak kilometara od Sao Paula, grada u Brazilu. Ovaj otok manji od kilometra kvadratnog zove se Ilha da Queimada. Na njemu živi oko 4.000 najsmrtonosnijih zmija svijeta, što predstavlja najveću koncentraciju ovih gmizavaca na jednom mjestu, donosi Slobodna Dalmacija.

Postoje brojne legende o ovom zlokobnom mjestu koje sa razlogom zovu "pakao na zemlji". Jedini trag ljudskog postojanja na otoku je svjetionik s početka prošlog stoljeća. Svjetioničar je na otoku kratko živio sa svojom obitelji, sve do trenutka kad je na najgori mogući način otkrio strašnu istinu po kojoj je otok kasnije postao poznat. Nekoliko zmija je usred noći ušlo u njegov dom kroz otvorene prozore i izgrizlo cijelu obitelj...

Otkud toliko zmija na malom mjestu?

Jamičarke iz porodice ljutica ostale su zatočene na otoku nakon povećanja razine oceana koji je odvojio more od od kopna. Kako na otoku nisu imale prirodnih neprijatelja, masovno su se razmnožile. 

Smrtonosna vrsta koja živi na otoku lokalno se naziva "Ilha de Queimada Grande" i odgovorna je za oko devedeset posto smrtnih slučajeva ugriza u Brazilu.

Bez odgovarajućeg protuotrova, od njenog se ugriza umire za svega nekoliko minuta. Prvi simptomi su zatajenje bubrega, krvarenje u mozgu, krvarenje u crijevima i nekroza mišićnog tkiva. Dosad nije zabilježen ni jedan slučaj u kojem je neko preživio dovoljno dugo da stigne do bolnice.

- S ovim zmijama riječ je o izuzetno bolnoj smrti. Ljudi umiru vrišteći - objasnio je biolog Brian Fry, jedan od nekolicine istraživača koji su bili dovoljno hrabri da posjete ovo mjesto.

Brazilska vlada je uredbom zabranila odlazak na otok, a jedini izuzetak su posebna dopuštenja za znanstvenike i istraživačke timove, koji moraju nositi zaštitna odijela te pri ruci imati liječnika.

Prema navodima medija, postoji i crno tržište za ture koje vode na otok kako bi nabavile "zlatne zmije". Cijena jedne zmije navodno je između deset i trideset tisuća dolara.

Iako otrov spomenute vrste ubija, paradoksalno, ima i ljekovita svojstva. Otrov zlatne zmije u dosadašnjim testiranjima je pokazao farmaceutski potencijal te se koristi u izradi lijekova za snižavanje krvnog pritiska. To je jedan od razloga zbog čega je zabranjeno ubijati zmije na otoku.

Prema urbanoj legendi, zmije su na otok donijeli gusari koji su tamo zakopali svoje blago. Zmije su se brzo razmnožile pa ni sami gusari uskoro više nisu mogli do svog blaga.

Na samo trideset kilometara od Sao Paola nalazi se "Otok zmija", mjesto s najvećom koncentracijom zmija na cijelom planetu.

"Otok zmija" nalazi se u blizini "Ognjene zemlje", na samo tridesetak kilometara od Sao Paula, grada u Brazilu. Ovaj otok manji od kilometra kvadratnog zove se Ilha da Queimada. Na njemu živi oko 4.000 najsmrtonosnijih zmija svijeta, što predstavlja najveću koncentraciju ovih gmizavaca na jednom mjestu, donosi Slobodna Dalmacija.

Postoje brojne legende o ovom zlokobnom mjestu koje sa razlogom zovu "pakao na zemlji". Jedini trag ljudskog postojanja na otoku je svjetionik s početka prošlog stoljeća. Svjetioničar je na otoku kratko živio sa svojom obitelji, sve do trenutka kad je na najgori mogući način otkrio strašnu istinu po kojoj je otok kasnije postao poznat. Nekoliko zmija je usred noći ušlo u njegov dom kroz otvorene prozore i izgrizlo cijelu obitelj...

Otkud toliko zmija na malom mjestu?

Jamičarke iz porodice ljutica ostale su zatočene na otoku nakon povećanja razine oceana koji je odvojio more od od kopna. Kako na otoku nisu imale prirodnih neprijatelja, masovno su se razmnožile. 

Smrtonosna vrsta koja živi na otoku lokalno se naziva "Ilha de Queimada Grande" i odgovorna je za oko devedeset posto smrtnih slučajeva ugriza u Brazilu.

Bez odgovarajućeg protuotrova, od njenog se ugriza umire za svega nekoliko minuta. Prvi simptomi su zatajenje bubrega, krvarenje u mozgu, krvarenje u crijevima i nekroza mišićnog tkiva. Dosad nije zabilježen ni jedan slučaj u kojem je neko preživio dovoljno dugo da stigne do bolnice.

- S ovim zmijama riječ je o izuzetno bolnoj smrti. Ljudi umiru vrišteći - objasnio je biolog Brian Fry, jedan od nekolicine istraživača koji su bili dovoljno hrabri da posjete ovo mjesto.

Brazilska vlada je uredbom zabranila odlazak na otok, a jedini izuzetak su posebna dopuštenja za znanstvenike i istraživačke timove, koji moraju nositi zaštitna odijela te pri ruci imati liječnika.

Prema navodima medija, postoji i crno tržište za ture koje vode na otok kako bi nabavile "zlatne zmije". Cijena jedne zmije navodno je između deset i trideset tisuća dolara.

Iako otrov spomenute vrste ubija, paradoksalno, ima i ljekovita svojstva. Otrov zlatne zmije u dosadašnjim testiranjima je pokazao farmaceutski potencijal te se koristi u izradi lijekova za snižavanje krvnog pritiska. To je jedan od razloga zbog čega je zabranjeno ubijati zmije na otoku.

Prema urbanoj legendi, zmije su na otok donijeli gusari koji su tamo zakopali svoje blago. Zmije su se brzo razmnožile pa ni sami gusari uskoro više nisu mogli do svog blaga.

Na samo trideset kilometara od Sao Paola nalazi se "Otok zmija", mjesto s najvećom koncentracijom zmija na cijelom planetu.

"Otok zmija" nalazi se u blizini "Ognjene zemlje", na samo tridesetak kilometara od Sao Paula, grada u Brazilu. Ovaj otok manji od kilometra kvadratnog zove se Ilha da Queimada. Na njemu živi oko 4.000 najsmrtonosnijih zmija svijeta, što predstavlja najveću koncentraciju ovih gmizavaca na jednom mjestu, donosi Slobodna Dalmacija.

Postoje brojne legende o ovom zlokobnom mjestu koje sa razlogom zovu "pakao na zemlji". Jedini trag ljudskog postojanja na otoku je svjetionik s početka prošlog stoljeća. Svjetioničar je na otoku kratko živio sa svojom obitelji, sve do trenutka kad je na najgori mogući način otkrio strašnu istinu po kojoj je otok kasnije postao poznat. Nekoliko zmija je usred noći ušlo u njegov dom kroz otvorene prozore i izgrizlo cijelu obitelj...

Otkud toliko zmija na malom mjestu?

Jamičarke iz porodice ljutica ostale su zatočene na otoku nakon povećanja razine oceana koji je odvojio more od od kopna. Kako na otoku nisu imale prirodnih neprijatelja, masovno su se razmnožile. 

Smrtonosna vrsta koja živi na otoku lokalno se naziva "Ilha de Queimada Grande" i odgovorna je za oko devedeset posto smrtnih slučajeva ugriza u Brazilu.

Bez odgovarajućeg protuotrova, od njenog se ugriza umire za svega nekoliko minuta. Prvi simptomi su zatajenje bubrega, krvarenje u mozgu, krvarenje u crijevima i nekroza mišićnog tkiva. Dosad nije zabilježen ni jedan slučaj u kojem je neko preživio dovoljno dugo da stigne do bolnice.

- S ovim zmijama riječ je o izuzetno bolnoj smrti. Ljudi umiru vrišteći - objasnio je biolog Brian Fry, jedan od nekolicine istraživača koji su bili dovoljno hrabri da posjete ovo mjesto.

Brazilska vlada je uredbom zabranila odlazak na otok, a jedini izuzetak su posebna dopuštenja za znanstvenike i istraživačke timove, koji moraju nositi zaštitna odijela te pri ruci imati liječnika.

Prema navodima medija, postoji i crno tržište za ture koje vode na otok kako bi nabavile "zlatne zmije". Cijena jedne zmije navodno je između deset i trideset tisuća dolara.
