Ugrizi krpelja kojih najviše u prirodi ima za vrijeme proljeća, ali i rane jeseni, mogu biti više nego li neugodni, i jako opasni.
Mlada fotografkinja tako se suočila s posve neobičnom reakcijom na ugriz krpelja i imala je pravu sreću što je uspjela dijagnosticirati rijetku bolest koju je razvila, o čemu je pisala za Prevention.
Majka petero djece živjela je na maloj obiteljskoj farmi u jugozapadnoj Virginiji, gdje je radila kao vjenčani fotograf.
Jedne večeri nakon snimanja svadbe osjetila je jake grčeve u trbuhu i počela povraćati. Zaključila je da se otrovala hranom.
Na proslavi je jela sve što i ostali gosti, u ovom slučaju rebarca, a i na ostalima koje su uslijedile, nakon kojih je osjećala slične tegobe, jela su bila uglavnom mesna.
U početku je mislila da se radi o čudnoj slučajnosti i nije o tome ni razmišljala na dan kada je doživjela najgoru reakciju na hranu. Njen suprug je pripremio odreske, a ona je, iako ih inače voli pojela samo par zalogaja jer je meso nije privlačilo.
Bez obzira na malu količinu oko 1 ujutro su je probudili snažni bolovi u želucu, pa su je počele svrbjeti ruke i noge, a onda su krenule i oticati.
Kada se u kupaoni pogledala u ogledalo cijelo tijelo joj je bilo prekriveno golemim oteklinama. Da je riječ o teškoj alergijskoj reakciji zaključila je kada se počela osjećati malaksalo, a grlo i jezik su joj natekli pa je popila nekoliko protualergijskih tableta.

Nedugo nakon toga slučajno je pročitala članak o alfa-gal sindromu (AGS), alergiji na hranu na crveno meso i proizvode od životinja koji najčešće počinje kad vas ugrize krpelj Lone Star.
Budući da ti krpelji u slini imaju molekulu šećera koja se naziva alfa-gal, znanstvenici vjeruju da njihov ugriz kod nekih ljudi može potaknuti blage do ozbiljne reakcije imunološkog sustava.
Za razliku od drugih alergija na hranu, koje se često pojave čim ste izloženi okidaču poput kikirikija, AGS-u može trebati tri do šest sati da izazove reakciju vjerojatno jer molekulama alfa-gal treba više vremena da se probave.
S obzirom na to da živi na području gdje su ti krpelji sve češći i s obzirom na ovo misteriozno stanje zamolila je liječnika da je testira.
Kao i mnogi liječnici, ni njeni nikada nisu čuli za AGS i u početku su mislili da govori o Lajmskoj bolesti, još jednoj koja se prenosi krpeljima. Naposljetku su je testirali i ispostavilo se da je pozitivna na AGS.
Njena prehrana morala se u potpunosti promijeniti i smršavila je 15-ak kilograma zahvaljujući tome. Članovi njene obitelji čak su meso pripremali van kuće kako ne bi udisala pare, ali alergija svejedno nije prolazila.
Naposljetku je otkrila još jednu lošu vijest. Dok velikom dijelu ljudi alergija nakon nekoga vremena prođe neki zauvijek ostaju alergični na meso, a činilo se da ona spada u drugu skupinu.
Kao da joj to nije bilo dosta, zbog života u prirodi krpelj ju je opet ugrizao, zbog čega je razvila alergiju na mliječne proizvode.
Život na farmi postao je pakao pa je njena vlasnica morala reducirati broj koza s 50 na 17 i svejedno izbjegavati direktan dodir s njima i na posljetku odustati od svojih snova da otvori malu obiteljsku mljekaru.

S druge strane ona se prilagodila koliko je mogla, a drugi su se prilagodili njoj u istoj mjeri. Uz lijekove sada uspijeva živjeti na smanjenoj farmi i pazi da se redovito pregledava ima li koji krpelj s obzirom da neki od njih, i to baš ova vrsta, mogu biti izuzetno mali, kao sjemenka jagode i teško ih je uočiti.
AGS je tek nedavno otkriven, 2009. godine, pa ne čudi što se još ne zna mnogo o terapiji, ali i druge već duže vrijeme poznate bolesti koje šire krpelji kao što je Lajmska ili virus krpeljnog meningoencefalitisa zaraženima zadaju velike tegobe.
U Hrvatskoj potonjim virusom zaražene krpelje nalazimo uglavnom u sjevernim krajevima, dok Lajmskom bolesti zaraženih možemo pronaći na području cijele zemlje.
U izletima u prirodu koji postaju idealni promjenom vremena i smanjenjem ljetnih temperatura potrebno je stoga biti na oprezu.
Najvažnije ne hodati kroz visoku travu nego utabanim stazama, pokušati ne ostavljati dijelove tijela otkrivenima, a one koji ipak budu goli namazati sredstvom koje odbija krpelje i na povratku kući pregledati sebe, malu djecu i kućne ljubimce detaljno uz pomoć bljeskalice i povećala.
Odjeću u kojoj ste boravili obavezno stavite na pranje jer se krpelji na njoj zadržavaju satima prije nego prijeđu na ljudsku ili životinjsku kožu.

Ugrizi krpelja kojih najviše u prirodi ima za vrijeme proljeća, ali i rane jeseni, mogu biti više nego li neugodni, i jako opasni.
Mlada fotografkinja tako se suočila s posve neobičnom reakcijom na ugriz krpelja i imala je pravu sreću što je uspjela dijagnosticirati rijetku bolest koju je razvila, o čemu je pisala za Prevention.
Majka petero djece živjela je na maloj obiteljskoj farmi u jugozapadnoj Virginiji, gdje je radila kao vjenčani fotograf.
Jedne večeri nakon snimanja svadbe osjetila je jake grčeve u trbuhu i počela povraćati. Zaključila je da se otrovala hranom.
Na proslavi je jela sve što i ostali gosti, u ovom slučaju rebarca, a i na ostalima koje su uslijedile, nakon kojih je osjećala slične tegobe, jela su bila uglavnom mesna.
U početku je mislila da se radi o čudnoj slučajnosti i nije o tome ni razmišljala na dan kada je doživjela najgoru reakciju na hranu. Njen suprug je pripremio odreske, a ona je, iako ih inače voli pojela samo par zalogaja jer je meso nije privlačilo.
Bez obzira na malu količinu oko 1 ujutro su je probudili snažni bolovi u želucu, pa su je počele svrbjeti ruke i noge, a onda su krenule i oticati.
Kada se u kupaoni pogledala u ogledalo cijelo tijelo joj je bilo prekriveno golemim oteklinama. Da je riječ o teškoj alergijskoj reakciji zaključila je kada se počela osjećati malaksalo, a grlo i jezik su joj natekli pa je popila nekoliko protualergijskih tableta.

Nedugo nakon toga slučajno je pročitala članak o alfa-gal sindromu (AGS), alergiji na hranu na crveno meso i proizvode od životinja koji najčešće počinje kad vas ugrize krpelj Lone Star.
Budući da ti krpelji u slini imaju molekulu šećera koja se naziva alfa-gal, znanstvenici vjeruju da njihov ugriz kod nekih ljudi može potaknuti blage do ozbiljne reakcije imunološkog sustava.
Za razliku od drugih alergija na hranu, koje se često pojave čim ste izloženi okidaču poput kikirikija, AGS-u može trebati tri do šest sati da izazove reakciju vjerojatno jer molekulama alfa-gal treba više vremena da se probave.
S obzirom na to da živi na području gdje su ti krpelji sve češći i s obzirom na ovo misteriozno stanje zamolila je liječnika da je testira.
Kao i mnogi liječnici, ni njeni nikada nisu čuli za AGS i u početku su mislili da govori o Lajmskoj bolesti, još jednoj koja se prenosi krpeljima. Naposljetku su je testirali i ispostavilo se da je pozitivna na AGS.
Njena prehrana morala se u potpunosti promijeniti i smršavila je 15-ak kilograma zahvaljujući tome. Članovi njene obitelji čak su meso pripremali van kuće kako ne bi udisala pare, ali alergija svejedno nije prolazila.
Naposljetku je otkrila još jednu lošu vijest. Dok velikom dijelu ljudi alergija nakon nekoga vremena prođe neki zauvijek ostaju alergični na meso, a činilo se da ona spada u drugu skupinu.
Kao da joj to nije bilo dosta, zbog života u prirodi krpelj ju je opet ugrizao, zbog čega je razvila alergiju na mliječne proizvode.
Život na farmi postao je pakao pa je njena vlasnica morala reducirati broj koza s 50 na 17 i svejedno izbjegavati direktan dodir s njima i na posljetku odustati od svojih snova da otvori malu obiteljsku mljekaru.

S druge strane ona se prilagodila koliko je mogla, a drugi su se prilagodili njoj u istoj mjeri. Uz lijekove sada uspijeva živjeti na smanjenoj farmi i pazi da se redovito pregledava ima li koji krpelj s obzirom da neki od njih, i to baš ova vrsta, mogu biti izuzetno mali, kao sjemenka jagode i teško ih je uočiti.
AGS je tek nedavno otkriven, 2009. godine, pa ne čudi što se još ne zna mnogo o terapiji, ali i druge već duže vrijeme poznate bolesti koje šire krpelji kao što je Lajmska ili virus krpeljnog meningoencefalitisa zaraženima zadaju velike tegobe.
U Hrvatskoj potonjim virusom zaražene krpelje nalazimo uglavnom u sjevernim krajevima, dok Lajmskom bolesti zaraženih možemo pronaći na području cijele zemlje.
U izletima u prirodu koji postaju idealni promjenom vremena i smanjenjem ljetnih temperatura potrebno je stoga biti na oprezu.
Najvažnije ne hodati kroz visoku travu nego utabanim stazama, pokušati ne ostavljati dijelove tijela otkrivenima, a one koji ipak budu goli namazati sredstvom koje odbija krpelje i na povratku kući pregledati sebe, malu djecu i kućne ljubimce detaljno uz pomoć bljeskalice i povećala.
Odjeću u kojoj ste boravili obavezno stavite na pranje jer se krpelji na njoj zadržavaju satima prije nego prijeđu na ljudsku ili životinjsku kožu.
