Mike Flanagan se nametnuo kao jedan od najvećih potencijala među filmašima specijaliziranima za horore. “Ogledalo smrti”, “Prizivanje duhova: Porijeklo zla” i “Somnia” navijestili su ga kao nekoga na koga treba obratiti pozornost. Flanagan je u međuvremenu postao Netflixov “go-to guy” za hororske serije.

”The Haunting Of Hill House”, “The Haunting of Bly Manor” i “Midnight Mass” tri su Flanaganove uzastopne hit-serije za streaming servis, a u tom intervalu uspio je snimiti i film “Doktor Sleep”, nastavak “Isijavanja”.

Da Flanagan ne misli posustati potvrđuje i njegova nova serija za Netflix, još jedna s “ponoći” (“midnight”) u naslovu – “Ponoćni klub” ili “The Midnight Club”.

”Ponoćni klub”, adaptacija knjiga Christophera Pikea, ostvaruje solidnu gledanost zahvaljujući Flanaganovu (prez)imenu, ali posrijedi je njegov dosad najslabiji serijski projekt koji zauzima posljednje mjesto iza “Prokletstva kuće Hill”, “Ponoćne mise” i “Prokletstva imanja Bly”.

Serija je nudila veliki potencijal s osnovnom postavkom priče: “osam terminalno bolesnih pacijenata u hospiciju Brightcliffe počinju se okupljati u ponoć kako bi podijelili strašne priče”.

Smrtno bolesni pacijenti su tinejdžeri, njih osam, koji se okupljaju u biblioteci i pričaju priče serijskim ubojicama, duhovima itd. tražeći znakove zagrobnog života da na taj način međusobno lakše procesuiraju horor vlastitog umiranja. Vrlo intrigantno, kao svojevrsni serijski spoj “Strave u Ulici brijestova”, “Kluba ranoranilaca” i “Novih mutanata”.

Da duh “Nightmare On Elm Street” lebdi nad serijom jasno je kad vidimo da je soba jednog od likova nalik sobi Johnnyja Deppa u horor klasiku i da ulogu misteriozne osnivačice hospicija za tinejdžere, dr. Georgine Stanton, igra Heather Langenkamp koja se triput borila s Freddyjem Krugerom, u originalnom filmu, “Stravi u Ulici brijestova 3” i “Novoj stravi Wesa Cavena”.

To je zgodan kontrapunkt angažmanu Roberta Englunda, Freddyja Krugera osobno, u seriji “Stranger Things”. Interesantno, “The Midnight Club” se odvija baš 1994., godine kad je u kinima izašao “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare”.

Posvete su zgodne, a lijepo je uočiti i plakate kultnih filmova osamdesetih i devedesetih na zidovima soba likova, kao što su “Terminator”, “Povratak u budućnost”, “RoboCop”, “Vremenski policajac”, “Kiborg”, “Zla smrt”...

Međutim, priča je odveć razvučena (deset predugih epizoda), a likovi nisu ni izbliza toliko zanimljivi onoliko koliko je zanimljiva bila Langenkamp u ulozi Nancy, makar se Iman Benson trudi kao ranjiva Ilonka, a kao Anya, Sandra i Kevin solidni su Ruth Codd, Annarah Cymone i Igby Rigney; dvoje potonjih glume i u “Midnight Mass”.

Prva epizoda je možda postavila rekord za “Guinessa” s najviše “bu scena” po epizodi (21 u “brzom slijedu”), ali iduće tek sporadično uspijevaju sačuvati hororski momentum, a nisu toliko jake u dramskom pripovijedanju i profilaciji likova da zadrže pažnju, neovisno o povremeno zanimljivim reminiscencijama na temu “življenja”, tj. borbe za život te umiranja, odnosno “napuštanja bojišta”, kao i stvari koje (ne) ostaju iza čovjeka jednom kad umre.

Za nekoga kome će ovo biti prvi horor, to je (možda) dovoljno. Iskusniji se mogu nadati da će Flanaganova serijska adaptacija “Pada kuće Usher” biti bolja.

Mike Flanagan se nametnuo kao jedan od najvećih potencijala među filmašima specijaliziranima za horore. “Ogledalo smrti”, “Prizivanje duhova: Porijeklo zla” i “Somnia” navijestili su ga kao nekoga na koga treba obratiti pozornost. Flanagan je u međuvremenu postao Netflixov “go-to guy” za hororske serije.

”The Haunting Of Hill House”, “The Haunting of Bly Manor” i “Midnight Mass” tri su Flanaganove uzastopne hit-serije za streaming servis, a u tom intervalu uspio je snimiti i film “Doktor Sleep”, nastavak “Isijavanja”.

Da Flanagan ne misli posustati potvrđuje i njegova nova serija za Netflix, još jedna s “ponoći” (“midnight”) u naslovu – “Ponoćni klub” ili “The Midnight Club”.

”Ponoćni klub”, adaptacija knjiga Christophera Pikea, ostvaruje solidnu gledanost zahvaljujući Flanaganovu (prez)imenu, ali posrijedi je njegov dosad najslabiji serijski projekt koji zauzima posljednje mjesto iza “Prokletstva kuće Hill”, “Ponoćne mise” i “Prokletstva imanja Bly”.

Serija je nudila veliki potencijal s osnovnom postavkom priče: “osam terminalno bolesnih pacijenata u hospiciju Brightcliffe počinju se okupljati u ponoć kako bi podijelili strašne priče”.

Smrtno bolesni pacijenti su tinejdžeri, njih osam, koji se okupljaju u biblioteci i pričaju priče serijskim ubojicama, duhovima itd. tražeći znakove zagrobnog života da na taj način međusobno lakše procesuiraju horor vlastitog umiranja. Vrlo intrigantno, kao svojevrsni serijski spoj “Strave u Ulici brijestova”, “Kluba ranoranilaca” i “Novih mutanata”.

Da duh “Nightmare On Elm Street” lebdi nad serijom jasno je kad vidimo da je soba jednog od likova nalik sobi Johnnyja Deppa u horor klasiku i da ulogu misteriozne osnivačice hospicija za tinejdžere, dr. Georgine Stanton, igra Heather Langenkamp koja se triput borila s Freddyjem Krugerom, u originalnom filmu, “Stravi u Ulici brijestova 3” i “Novoj stravi Wesa Cavena”.

To je zgodan kontrapunkt angažmanu Roberta Englunda, Freddyja Krugera osobno, u seriji “Stranger Things”. Interesantno, “The Midnight Club” se odvija baš 1994., godine kad je u kinima izašao “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare”.

Posvete su zgodne, a lijepo je uočiti i plakate kultnih filmova osamdesetih i devedesetih na zidovima soba likova, kao što su “Terminator”, “Povratak u budućnost”, “RoboCop”, “Vremenski policajac”, “Kiborg”, “Zla smrt”...

Međutim, priča je odveć razvučena (deset predugih epizoda), a likovi nisu ni izbliza toliko zanimljivi onoliko koliko je zanimljiva bila Langenkamp u ulozi Nancy, makar se Iman Benson trudi kao ranjiva Ilonka, a kao Anya, Sandra i Kevin solidni su Ruth Codd, Annarah Cymone i Igby Rigney; dvoje potonjih glume i u “Midnight Mass”.

Prva epizoda je možda postavila rekord za “Guinessa” s najviše “bu scena” po epizodi (21 u “brzom slijedu”), ali iduće tek sporadično uspijevaju sačuvati hororski momentum, a nisu toliko jake u dramskom pripovijedanju i profilaciji likova da zadrže pažnju, neovisno o povremeno zanimljivim reminiscencijama na temu “življenja”, tj. borbe za život te umiranja, odnosno “napuštanja bojišta”, kao i stvari koje (ne) ostaju iza čovjeka jednom kad umre.

Za nekoga kome će ovo biti prvi horor, to je (možda) dovoljno. Iskusniji se mogu nadati da će Flanaganova serijska adaptacija “Pada kuće Usher” biti bolja.

Klub hororskih ranoranilaca: nova serija Mikea Flanagana imala je veliki potencijal s pričom o nasmrt bolesnim tinejdžerima koji se okupljaju da podijele strašne priče

Mike Flanagan se nametnuo kao jedan od najvećih potencijala među filmašima specijaliziranima za horore. “Ogledalo smrti”, “Prizivanje duhova: Porijeklo zla” i “Somnia” navijestili su ga kao nekoga na koga treba obratiti pozornost. Flanagan je u međuvremenu postao Netflixov “go-to guy” za hororske serije.

”The Haunting Of Hill House”, “The Haunting of Bly Manor” i “Midnight Mass” tri su Flanaganove uzastopne hit-serije za streaming servis, a u tom intervalu uspio je snimiti i film “Doktor Sleep”, nastavak “Isijavanja”.

Da Flanagan ne misli posustati potvrđuje i njegova nova serija za Netflix, još jedna s “ponoći” (“midnight”) u naslovu – “Ponoćni klub” ili “The Midnight Club”.
