Svi oni kojima je prije devet godina promaknuo službeni prvijenac Josha Tillmana, njegovi kasniji ništa slabiji, no jednako kod šire publike nezapaženi albumi ili pak njegova uloga u formatiranju Fleet Foxesa – s kojima je, ne prestajući raditi i na svom autorskom materijalu, do 2011. nastupao – imaju sjajnu priliku za popravni ispit. Jer, Tillmanov drugi album objavljen pod alter egom Father John Misty, baš kao i njegov prethodnik iz 2011. "Fear Fun", sjajan je kantautorski album čudesnog retro pop-rocka nadahnutog najvećima: opusom Petea Seegera, Nickom Drakeom, Gramom Parsonsom, trubadurima sedamdesetih ugniježđenih u opjevanom Laurel Canyonu te Ryanom Adamsom i indie-pop neopsihodelijom.
Što, naravno, ne čudi jer riječ je o trajnom Tillmanovu nadahnuću, ali i iskustvu koje je stjecao surađujući s nizom indie-rock bendova i Damienom Juradom.
     
Ako je na prvijencu objavljenom pod imenom Father John Misty, 2012. publiku upoznao sa svojim pomno razrađenim retro-popom križanim s indie-rockom, u kojem su dominirale duhovito napisane teme pune humora, ali i promišljanja o vlastitoj smrtnosti te besmislenom ratu i naftnom biznisu (u sjajnoj "Now I\'m Learning to Love the War"), friški album tipični je komad ispovjednog trubadurskog stila. Daleko od toga da albumu nedostaje otkačena vrckavost prethodnika, no Tillman alias Father John Misty se – kao friški mladoženja – okrenuo temi ljubavi. Naravno, na svoj duhoviti način, ali ne odustajući i od političke satire u sjajnoj "Bored In The USA". Konačno, zbog pomaka interesa i prevlasti lirskih ljubavnih tema nad negdašnjim izričajem opijatima sklonog boema, podnaslov albuma mirne bi duše mogao biti, da parafraziram Márqueza, neočekivana "ljubav u doba kolerika"...
      

Naslovni broj koji i otvara album neupitan je dokaz golema Tillmanova talenta u konstrukciji prvorazredne pop teme. Akustična gitara uz klavir te raskošni (dramatični) gudači i sirupasta melodija vuku na trubadure sedamdesetih uz vokalize na tragu poduka Briana Wilsona i sjajnu "panoramsku produkciju" Jonathana Wilsona (kojemu su, valjda, nadahnuće bili i Brian i David Fridmann). "Chateau, Lobby 4 (In C for Two Virgins)" pravi je biser folkom ozračenog retro-popa u kojem ponovno gudači – kojima se u jednom trenu pridruže puhači inspirirani mariachijem – i pozadinski vokali dosežu kvalitetu "tinejdžerskih simfonija" šezdesetih, dok je "True Affection" senzacionalan spoj fluidne elektronike i gudača te razigranog ritma i onozemaljske pop melodije.      

Fraza djeluje otrcano, no od početka do kraja "I Love You Honneybear" je album bez ijednog klimavog trenutka. "The Night Josh Tillman Came To Our Apartment" kao da je stigla s kakve izabrane pjesmarice Južne Kalifornije kasnih šezdesetih i ranih sedamdesetih, raskošna balada "When You\'re Smiling And Astride Me" – slubljenih orgulja i gudača – savršeno priziva duh južnjačkog soula uz gitarske akcente (dao bih se kladiti da je taj meki harrisonovski ton dobiven korištenjem Leslie pojačala), "Nothing Good Ever Happens At The Goddamn Thirsty Crow" veličanstvena je countryjem okađena laganica, a "Strange Encouter" još jedan superioran ulazak u prostor country-rocka Parsonsa i Adamsa. "The Ideal Husband" je vrckav i duhovit "rocker" s dramom kakvu je znao složiti Phil Spector, "Holy Shit" besprijekorna trubadurska pop-folk tema kroja sedamdesetih (koju bi valjda rado potpisao i Jim Croce), već spomenuta satira "Bored In The USA" s "isposničkim" klavirom i vokalom na najboljem tragu velikih brojeva Randyja Newmana, a zaključna "I Went To Store One Day" atmosferom (i aranžmanom) prvorazredna drakeovska balada.
"I Love You Honeybear" je moj prvi kandidat za izbor najboljih albuma u 2015. Uz, dakako, maksimalnu preporuku koja glasi: dočepajte ga se ne birajući sredstva!

Svi oni kojima je prije devet godina promaknuo službeni prvijenac Josha Tillmana, njegovi kasniji ništa slabiji, no jednako kod šire publike nezapaženi albumi ili pak njegova uloga u formatiranju Fleet Foxesa – s kojima je, ne prestajući raditi i na svom autorskom materijalu, do 2011. nastupao – imaju sjajnu priliku za popravni ispit. Jer, Tillmanov drugi album objavljen pod alter egom Father John Misty, baš kao i njegov prethodnik iz 2011. "Fear Fun", sjajan je kantautorski album čudesnog retro pop-rocka nadahnutog najvećima: opusom Petea Seegera, Nickom Drakeom, Gramom Parsonsom, trubadurima sedamdesetih ugniježđenih u opjevanom Laurel Canyonu te Ryanom Adamsom i indie-pop neopsihodelijom.
Što, naravno, ne čudi jer riječ je o trajnom Tillmanovu nadahnuću, ali i iskustvu koje je stjecao surađujući s nizom indie-rock bendova i Damienom Juradom.
     
Ako je na prvijencu objavljenom pod imenom Father John Misty, 2012. publiku upoznao sa svojim pomno razrađenim retro-popom križanim s indie-rockom, u kojem su dominirale duhovito napisane teme pune humora, ali i promišljanja o vlastitoj smrtnosti te besmislenom ratu i naftnom biznisu (u sjajnoj "Now I\'m Learning to Love the War"), friški album tipični je komad ispovjednog trubadurskog stila. Daleko od toga da albumu nedostaje otkačena vrckavost prethodnika, no Tillman alias Father John Misty se – kao friški mladoženja – okrenuo temi ljubavi. Naravno, na svoj duhoviti način, ali ne odustajući i od političke satire u sjajnoj "Bored In The USA". Konačno, zbog pomaka interesa i prevlasti lirskih ljubavnih tema nad negdašnjim izričajem opijatima sklonog boema, podnaslov albuma mirne bi duše mogao biti, da parafraziram Márqueza, neočekivana "ljubav u doba kolerika"...
      

Naslovni broj koji i otvara album neupitan je dokaz golema Tillmanova talenta u konstrukciji prvorazredne pop teme. Akustična gitara uz klavir te raskošni (dramatični) gudači i sirupasta melodija vuku na trubadure sedamdesetih uz vokalize na tragu poduka Briana Wilsona i sjajnu "panoramsku produkciju" Jonathana Wilsona (kojemu su, valjda, nadahnuće bili i Brian i David Fridmann). "Chateau, Lobby 4 (In C for Two Virgins)" pravi je biser folkom ozračenog retro-popa u kojem ponovno gudači – kojima se u jednom trenu pridruže puhači inspirirani mariachijem – i pozadinski vokali dosežu kvalitetu "tinejdžerskih simfonija" šezdesetih, dok je "True Affection" senzacionalan spoj fluidne elektronike i gudača te razigranog ritma i onozemaljske pop melodije.      

Fraza djeluje otrcano, no od početka do kraja "I Love You Honneybear" je album bez ijednog klimavog trenutka. "The Night Josh Tillman Came To Our Apartment" kao da je stigla s kakve izabrane pjesmarice Južne Kalifornije kasnih šezdesetih i ranih sedamdesetih, raskošna balada "When You\'re Smiling And Astride Me" – slubljenih orgulja i gudača – savršeno priziva duh južnjačkog soula uz gitarske akcente (dao bih se kladiti da je taj meki harrisonovski ton dobiven korištenjem Leslie pojačala), "Nothing Good Ever Happens At The Goddamn Thirsty Crow" veličanstvena je countryjem okađena laganica, a "Strange Encouter" još jedan superioran ulazak u prostor country-rocka Parsonsa i Adamsa. "The Ideal Husband" je vrckav i duhovit "rocker" s dramom kakvu je znao složiti Phil Spector, "Holy Shit" besprijekorna trubadurska pop-folk tema kroja sedamdesetih (koju bi valjda rado potpisao i Jim Croce), već spomenuta satira "Bored In The USA" s "isposničkim" klavirom i vokalom na najboljem tragu velikih brojeva Randyja Newmana, a zaključna "I Went To Store One Day" atmosferom (i aranžmanom) prvorazredna drakeovska balada.
"I Love You Honeybear" je moj prvi kandidat za izbor najboljih albuma u 2015. Uz, dakako, maksimalnu preporuku koja glasi: dočepajte ga se ne birajući sredstva!
