Priznanje: Jim Carrey i "Ace Ventura: Šašavi detektiv" ("Ace Ventura: Pet Detective") nisu legli potpisniku ovih redaka na prvo gledanje. Carreyjev tip humora znao je biti prilično iritantan, ali moguće da je jednostavno bio krivi trenutak. No, ljubav s Jimom i Aceom dogodila se na drugi pogled. Ljubav i gušenje od smijeha. Sjećam se toga kao jučer. Sestra, ja, mamina manistra i "Ace Ventura". Manistra nam je zamalo zapela u grlu koliko smo se smijali.

Manična energija Carreyja bila je ovaj put urnebesno zarazna odmah u uvodnoj sceni, kad Ventura preotima psića od negativca (Randall "Tex" Cobb). Paleći automobil dok mrga udara bejzbol palicom po stražnjem vjetrobranskom staklu ("Upozorenje: seronje su bliže nego što se čini"), Ace usklikne "It‘s Alive", citirajući Frankensteina.

Imao je on i vlastite provale poput "Alrighty then", "Like a Glove", "Loser" (rastegnuti izgovor; "Loo-hoo-zuh-her") koje će se s osmjehom citirati u svakodnevnom govoru od tog drugog gledanja pa sve do ovog najnovijeg obljetničarskog nakon što su zauvijek ušle u uho.

Do trenutka kad je Ventura, angažiran da pronađe dupina Pahuljicu, maskotu "Miami Dolphinsa", ušao u prazni bazen ("Ako se ne vratim za pet minuta, samo čekajte duže") i počeo na ludo zabavan način sprdati dramatičan "kapetanov dnevnik" govor Williama Shatnera u "Zvjezdanim stazama" koristeći sunčane naočale kao komunikator, bilo je jasno da je komičarska zvijezda devedesetih rođena.

To je Jim i potvrdio s idućim hitovima 1994., "Maskom" i "Glup i gluplji", postavši ono što je u osamdesetima bio Eddie Murphy – superstar komedije. "Ace Ventura" predstavio je novog komičara na sceni, čovjeka gumenog lica koji je podebljao komiku Jerryja Lewisa do krajnjih granica.

Pritom, Carreyju nisu trebali specijalni računalni efekti koji su potencirali rastezljivost njegova lica za potrebe nemogućih facijalnih grimasa u filmu "The Mask". Jim je bio specijalni efekt i ostvario ludu i nezaboravnu ulogu. "Dumb and Dumber" je (još) bolja komedija, ali "Ace Ventura" je prvi pokazao da Carey može biti lud i luđi.

Uloga mu je legla "like a glove" i glumac je s Aceom stvorio prilično jedinstven lik uz vođenje redatelja Toma Shadyaca koji mu je dao odriješene ruke za improvizaciju. Ventura je praktički hodajuća parodija detektivskih filmova i Jamesa Bonda, pod uvjetom da je 007 detektiv za kućne ljubimce.

Bond je eksplicitno spomenut u foršpanu filma, kao i Rambo i Terminator, a u jednoj sceni će zasvirati i tema iz "Nemoguće misije". Spašavajući životinjice Ace često završi u krevetu njihovih vlasnica (Rebecca Ferratti), očijuka s šeficom policije (Sean Young) i ima svoju Bond/Ventura-djevojku u tumačenju Courtney Cox koja se suzdržava da ne prasne od smijeha usred scene.

On je istovremeno i Dr. Dolittle, oživljeni lik iz crtića koji hvata metke zubima; film je i pretvoren u animiranu seriju. Tako suluda kombinacija teško bi uspjela da nije Jima koji je bio spreman na sve za ulogu, od posjete koncertu death metal sastava Cannibal Corpse do paradiranja u baletnoj suknjici.

Katkad komedija zna biti "hit&miss", a pred kraj je i homofobična/transfobična u parodiranju "Plačljiva igra" preokreta, osobito u današnjoj klimi. No, Carrey je uvijek neodoljivo šašav i bezobrazno talentiran za verbalni i tjelesni humor, primjerice da izbifla kartice teksta u jednom dahu, da se ponaša kao pas ili da oponaša pokrete ragbijaša u usporenoj snimci i vrati "snimku", tj. ponovi istu radnju unazad. Priznanje: Jim Carrey i "Ace Ventura: Šašavi detektiv" ("Ace Ventura: Pet Detective") nisu legli potpisniku ovih redaka na prvo gledanje. Carreyjev tip humora znao je biti prilično iritantan, ali moguće da je jednostavno bio krivi trenutak. No, ljubav s Jimom i Aceom dogodila se na drugi pogled. Ljubav i gušenje od smijeha. Sjećam se toga kao jučer. Sestra, ja, mamina manistra i "Ace Ventura". Manistra nam je zamalo zapela u grlu koliko smo se smijali.

Manična energija Carreyja bila je ovaj put urnebesno zarazna odmah u uvodnoj sceni, kad Ventura preotima psića od negativca (Randall "Tex" Cobb). Paleći automobil dok mrga udara bejzbol palicom po stražnjem vjetrobranskom staklu ("Upozorenje: seronje su bliže nego što se čini"), Ace usklikne "It‘s Alive", citirajući Frankensteina.

Imao je on i vlastite provale poput "Alrighty then", "Like a Glove", "Loser" (rastegnuti izgovor; "Loo-hoo-zuh-her") koje će se s osmjehom citirati u svakodnevnom govoru od tog drugog gledanja pa sve do ovog najnovijeg obljetničarskog nakon što su zauvijek ušle u uho.

Do trenutka kad je Ventura, angažiran da pronađe dupina Pahuljicu, maskotu "Miami Dolphinsa", ušao u prazni bazen ("Ako se ne vratim za pet minuta, samo čekajte duže") i počeo na ludo zabavan način sprdati dramatičan "kapetanov dnevnik" govor Williama Shatnera u "Zvjezdanim stazama" koristeći sunčane naočale kao komunikator, bilo je jasno da je komičarska zvijezda devedesetih rođena.

To je Jim i potvrdio s idućim hitovima 1994., "Maskom" i "Glup i gluplji", postavši ono što je u osamdesetima bio Eddie Murphy – superstar komedije. "Ace Ventura" predstavio je novog komičara na sceni, čovjeka gumenog lica koji je podebljao komiku Jerryja Lewisa do krajnjih granica.

Pritom, Carreyju nisu trebali specijalni računalni efekti koji su potencirali rastezljivost njegova lica za potrebe nemogućih facijalnih grimasa u filmu "The Mask". Jim je bio specijalni efekt i ostvario ludu i nezaboravnu ulogu. "Dumb and Dumber" je (još) bolja komedija, ali "Ace Ventura" je prvi pokazao da Carey može biti lud i luđi.

Uloga mu je legla "like a glove" i glumac je s Aceom stvorio prilično jedinstven lik uz vođenje redatelja Toma Shadyaca koji mu je dao odriješene ruke za improvizaciju. Ventura je praktički hodajuća parodija detektivskih filmova i Jamesa Bonda, pod uvjetom da je 007 detektiv za kućne ljubimce.

Bond je eksplicitno spomenut u foršpanu filma, kao i Rambo i Terminator, a u jednoj sceni će zasvirati i tema iz "Nemoguće misije". Spašavajući životinjice Ace često završi u krevetu njihovih vlasnica (Rebecca Ferratti), očijuka s šeficom policije (Sean Young) i ima svoju Bond/Ventura-djevojku u tumačenju Courtney Cox koja se suzdržava da ne prasne od smijeha usred scene.

On je istovremeno i Dr. Dolittle, oživljeni lik iz crtića koji hvata metke zubima; film je i pretvoren u animiranu seriju. Tako suluda kombinacija teško bi uspjela da nije Jima koji je bio spreman na sve za ulogu, od posjete koncertu death metal sastava Cannibal Corpse do paradiranja u baletnoj suknjici.

Katkad komedija zna biti "hit&miss", a pred kraj je i homofobična/transfobična u parodiranju "Plačljiva igra" preokreta, osobito u današnjoj klimi. No, Carrey je uvijek neodoljivo šašav i bezobrazno talentiran za verbalni i tjelesni humor, primjerice da izbifla kartice teksta u jednom dahu, da se ponaša kao pas ili da oponaša pokrete ragbijaša u usporenoj snimci i vrati "snimku", tj. ponovi istu radnju unazad.
