"Mea Culpa" nastoji oživjeti zamrle erotske trilere osamdesetih i devedesetih, ali nažalost radi to iznimno loše i gotovo sigurno će zauzeti visoku poziciju na listi najgorih filmova godine. To što je je "Mea Culpa" osvojila sami vrh gledanosti na Netflixu više govori o tome koliko erotski trileri nedostaju publici, a manje o (ne)kvaliteti ovog filma.

Nekoć lukrativan žanr posljednjih godina se krajnje prorijedio, ali povremeno se znaju pojaviti filmovi kao što su "Voajeri", "Duboka voda", "Fatalna", "Toplinski val", "Besramno" i "Millerova djevojka" (čak i oni hrvatski poput "Escorta" i "Slatke Simone") ili serijski remake "Kobne privlačnosti".

Svaki od navedenih pokušao je s više ili (češće) manje uspjeha vratiti publiku u dane klasika kao što su "Tjelesna strast", "Striptiz smrti", "Maskirani ubojica", "More ljubavi", "Hot Spot", "Sirove strasti", "U posljednoj fazi", "Gorki mjesec", "Sliver"... Redatelj Tyler Perry puca visoko i uvjerava nas da poznaje žanr uzduž i poprijeko kao vlastiti džep s pozivanjima na "Jagged Edge" i "Basic Instinct" (je li glavni lik ubojica ili nije?), tj. "Fatal Attraction" (teretno dizalo), ali u konačnici pada nisko.

Naime, "Mea Culpa" ne doseže ni one erotske trilere srednje kategorije iz zlatnog doba žanra, tipa "Ne vjeruj strancima", "Njeno je tijelo dokaz" ili "Boja noći", neovisno o tome što cilja i na njih, evocirajući npr. "kinky" scenu/atmosferu sa svijećama iz "Body Of Evidence". Dometi djelca "Mea Culpa", kao i njegovih prethodnika poput "Heatwave" i "Brazen", mahom su niski i dosežu razinu "trashy" videotečnih erotskih trilera devedesetih sa Shannon Tweed ili friškog serijala "365 dana".

Umjesto Tweed imamo popularnu pjevačicu i povremenu glumicu Kelly Rowland (pojavila se npr. u hororu "Freddy protiv Jasona"). Rowland nastupa u ulozi odvjetnice imena Mea. Ona je, dakle, titularna Mea i, dakako, počinit će grešku (culpa). Upoznajemo je na bračnoj terapiji sa suprugom Kalom (Sean Sagar) koji ju, moguće, vara ili je barem Mea ljubomorna na njegov odnos s Jennom (Arianna Barron).

Iz tog razloga, ali i izazova ("ovo će biti teška bitka"), Mea nakon početnog nećkanja ipak pristaje braniti "seks ubojicu", zgodnog Zyaira (Trevante Rhodes; "Moonlight", "Predator: Evolucija"), optuženog da je umorio djevojku Hydie (María Gabriela González).

Zyar tvrdi da nije kriv, niti je "ženskar", kako mu spočitavaju, samo da "voli seks". Naravno, još i prije nego Zyair kaže "Napališ me kad te vidim", Mea će osjetiti žudnju prema njemu i pitanje je trena kad će završiti u njegovom naručju. Kad se to napokon dogodi, Zyair boja svoje i Meino nago tijelo slikarskim bojama i "soft-core porn" scena izrazite tjelesnosti razmjerno je neloša (njoj pripada ekstra pola zvjezdice).

Međutim, sve ostalo je lošnjikavo, da ne zapišemo mlohavo. Erotsko-trilerska tenzija i kemija među likovima je nepostojeća, dijalozi su sapuničasti, preokreti besmisleni. Bilo je štofa ovdje i za autoparodijski žanrovski odmak u stilu "Divlje igre", ali Perry režira zbivanja ozbiljan kao srčani udar od viagre, bez nekakvog samoironičnog namiga, k tome čini se i (samo)uvjeren da snima pametan (a ne glupast) erotski triler s preokretom. Jedino pametno je naslov "Mea Culpa". Ovo je erotski triler s greškom.

"Mea Culpa" nastoji oživjeti zamrle erotske trilere osamdesetih i devedesetih, ali nažalost radi to iznimno loše i gotovo sigurno će zauzeti visoku poziciju na listi najgorih filmova godine. To što je je "Mea Culpa" osvojila sami vrh gledanosti na Netflixu više govori o tome koliko erotski trileri nedostaju publici, a manje o (ne)kvaliteti ovog filma.

Nekoć lukrativan žanr posljednjih godina se krajnje prorijedio, ali povremeno se znaju pojaviti filmovi kao što su "Voajeri", "Duboka voda", "Fatalna", "Toplinski val", "Besramno" i "Millerova djevojka" (čak i oni hrvatski poput "Escorta" i "Slatke Simone") ili serijski remake "Kobne privlačnosti".

Svaki od navedenih pokušao je s više ili (češće) manje uspjeha vratiti publiku u dane klasika kao što su "Tjelesna strast", "Striptiz smrti", "Maskirani ubojica", "More ljubavi", "Hot Spot", "Sirove strasti", "U posljednoj fazi", "Gorki mjesec", "Sliver"... Redatelj Tyler Perry puca visoko i uvjerava nas da poznaje žanr uzduž i poprijeko kao vlastiti džep s pozivanjima na "Jagged Edge" i "Basic Instinct" (je li glavni lik ubojica ili nije?), tj. "Fatal Attraction" (teretno dizalo), ali u konačnici pada nisko.

Naime, "Mea Culpa" ne doseže ni one erotske trilere srednje kategorije iz zlatnog doba žanra, tipa "Ne vjeruj strancima", "Njeno je tijelo dokaz" ili "Boja noći", neovisno o tome što cilja i na njih, evocirajući npr. "kinky" scenu/atmosferu sa svijećama iz "Body Of Evidence". Dometi djelca "Mea Culpa", kao i njegovih prethodnika poput "Heatwave" i "Brazen", mahom su niski i dosežu razinu "trashy" videotečnih erotskih trilera devedesetih sa Shannon Tweed ili friškog serijala "365 dana".

Umjesto Tweed imamo popularnu pjevačicu i povremenu glumicu Kelly Rowland (pojavila se npr. u hororu "Freddy protiv Jasona"). Rowland nastupa u ulozi odvjetnice imena Mea. Ona je, dakle, titularna Mea i, dakako, počinit će grešku (culpa). Upoznajemo je na bračnoj terapiji sa suprugom Kalom (Sean Sagar) koji ju, moguće, vara ili je barem Mea ljubomorna na njegov odnos s Jennom (Arianna Barron).

Iz tog razloga, ali i izazova ("ovo će biti teška bitka"), Mea nakon početnog nećkanja ipak pristaje braniti "seks ubojicu", zgodnog Zyaira (Trevante Rhodes; "Moonlight", "Predator: Evolucija"), optuženog da je umorio djevojku Hydie (María Gabriela González).

Zyar tvrdi da nije kriv, niti je "ženskar", kako mu spočitavaju, samo da "voli seks". Naravno, još i prije nego Zyair kaže "Napališ me kad te vidim", Mea će osjetiti žudnju prema njemu i pitanje je trena kad će završiti u njegovom naručju. Kad se to napokon dogodi, Zyair boja svoje i Meino nago tijelo slikarskim bojama i "soft-core porn" scena izrazite tjelesnosti razmjerno je neloša (njoj pripada ekstra pola zvjezdice).

Međutim, sve ostalo je lošnjikavo, da ne zapišemo mlohavo. Erotsko-trilerska tenzija i kemija među likovima je nepostojeća, dijalozi su sapuničasti, preokreti besmisleni. Bilo je štofa ovdje i za autoparodijski žanrovski odmak u stilu "Divlje igre", ali Perry režira zbivanja ozbiljan kao srčani udar od viagre, bez nekakvog samoironičnog namiga, k tome čini se i (samo)uvjeren da snima pametan (a ne glupast) erotski triler s preokretom. Jedino pametno je naslov "Mea Culpa". Ovo je erotski triler s greškom.
