"Povećajte svoje pobjede, smanjite gubitke... i ostanite u igri koliko god možete." – "Poker Face" (2022.)

Pokeraško lice krasi plakat filma "Poker Face". Od Lady Gage ni traga, ali tu je oskarovac Russell Crowe koji želi da se izraz "poker face" ne pamti samo po njezinoj pjesmi nego i njegovu filmu. Nije da Crowe samo glumi u "Poker Face", već je film i režirao. To je njegov redateljski drugijenac nakon "Izvora nade" iz 2014. s njim i Olgom Kurylenko u glavnim ulogama.

Ovaj put Crowe je debitirao i kao scenarist filma, napisavši scenarij prema priči Stephena M. Coatesa. Ambiciozno, nema što, ali glumac nešto tako može sebi priuštiti u ovoj fazi karijere, da se odvažuje na nove pothvate, da eksperimentira i riskira, baš poput igrača pokera.

Čovjek iza sebe ima kapitalne uloge u sjajnim filmovima s kraja devedesetih/početka novog milenija poput "L.A. povjerljivo", "Gladijatora", "Probuđene savjesti", "Genijalnog uma", "Gospodara i ratnika"... Uspio je ostati zvijezda i krajem 2000-ih ("Tijelo od laži", "U vrtlogu igre"), tj. u 2010-ima ("Robin Hood", "Sljedeća tri dana", "Noa", "Dobri momci") čak i kad su mu filmovi bili slabiji ("Slomljeni grad", "Zimska priča", "Mumija"), igrajući i sporedne uloge u oskarovskim projektima i blockbusterima ("Jadnici", "Čovjek od čelika").

Posljednjih godina je također aktivan ("Bijesan", "Thor: Ljubav i grom"), a sad je tu aktivnost potencirao režiranjem i pisanjem, odnosno autorskim djelovanjem. Ne bojte se, redatelj i scenarist Crowe neće "pojesti" glumca Crowea. Gluma je još uvijek njegovo najjače oružje, a bolji je kao redatelj nego scenarist.

No, "Poker Face" je uz sve mane (glumci 20-ak godina mlađi od glume vršnjake glavne zvijezde), tonalne i ine neujednačenosti (od pokeraškog do pljačkaškog filma, od drame do trilera), zgodan dodatak Croweovu opusu, filmić koji subvertira očekivanja i žanrove.

"Poker Face" počinje kao dječačka/mladenačka drama tipa "Ostani uz mene", predstavljajući australske prijatelje iz djetinjstva u prijelomnom trenutku učenja pokera (i budućeg negativca), a prije nego što izrastu u likove koje glume Crowe, Liam Hemsworth, RZA... Godinama kasnije, Croweov Jake Foley je postao tehnološki milijarder i organizira partiju "Texas Hold‘em" pokera pod egidom "pobjednik uzima sve".

Iako se Foley predstavlja riječima "imam 57 godina, ja sam kockar", "Poker Face" nije pokeraška drama centrirana isključivo na njegov lik i igru. Ni igra nije standardna, makar je u igri naizgled golema lova. Foley i Crowe kriju aseve u rukavu u igri povećanih uloga većih od života.

Mnogi skrivaju mračne tajne, jedan od njih, doznajemo, ima fatalnu dijagozu, u igri je i otrov da svi budu "na istoj razini", a stvari bivaju još gore kad se pojave Jakeova supruga Nicole i kćerka Rebecca (Brooke Satchwell, Molly Grace) te postanu taokinje Victora (Paul Tassone) i njegovih pajdaša. Kartaška igra se pretvara u talačku krizu, likovi se skrivaju u sobi panike, potežu se sačmarice i pištolji sa samo jednim metkom itd.

Reklo bi se, Crowe režira i glumi "pokeraškim licem", a često i znade blefirati u objema ulogama, još više kao scenarist, ali radi zanimljivu višežanrovsku subverziju i odbij smjestiti "Poker Face" u okvir samo jednog žanra (psihološka pokeraška drama, "heist" triler...) i igrati kako se od njega očekuje. Sve do samog kraja, Crowe odbija pložiti karte na stol i predati izgubljenu partiju.

"Povećajte svoje pobjede, smanjite gubitke... i ostanite u igri koliko god možete." – "Poker Face" (2022.)

Pokeraško lice krasi plakat filma "Poker Face". Od Lady Gage ni traga, ali tu je oskarovac Russell Crowe koji želi da se izraz "poker face" ne pamti samo po njezinoj pjesmi nego i njegovu filmu. Nije da Crowe samo glumi u "Poker Face", već je film i režirao. To je njegov redateljski drugijenac nakon "Izvora nade" iz 2014. s njim i Olgom Kurylenko u glavnim ulogama.

Ovaj put Crowe je debitirao i kao scenarist filma, napisavši scenarij prema priči Stephena M. Coatesa. Ambiciozno, nema što, ali glumac nešto tako može sebi priuštiti u ovoj fazi karijere, da se odvažuje na nove pothvate, da eksperimentira i riskira, baš poput igrača pokera.

Čovjek iza sebe ima kapitalne uloge u sjajnim filmovima s kraja devedesetih/početka novog milenija poput "L.A. povjerljivo", "Gladijatora", "Probuđene savjesti", "Genijalnog uma", "Gospodara i ratnika"... Uspio je ostati zvijezda i krajem 2000-ih ("Tijelo od laži", "U vrtlogu igre"), tj. u 2010-ima ("Robin Hood", "Sljedeća tri dana", "Noa", "Dobri momci") čak i kad su mu filmovi bili slabiji ("Slomljeni grad", "Zimska priča", "Mumija"), igrajući i sporedne uloge u oskarovskim projektima i blockbusterima ("Jadnici", "Čovjek od čelika").

Posljednjih godina je također aktivan ("Bijesan", "Thor: Ljubav i grom"), a sad je tu aktivnost potencirao režiranjem i pisanjem, odnosno autorskim djelovanjem. Ne bojte se, redatelj i scenarist Crowe neće "pojesti" glumca Crowea. Gluma je još uvijek njegovo najjače oružje, a bolji je kao redatelj nego scenarist.

No, "Poker Face" je uz sve mane (glumci 20-ak godina mlađi od glume vršnjake glavne zvijezde), tonalne i ine neujednačenosti (od pokeraškog do pljačkaškog filma, od drame do trilera), zgodan dodatak Croweovu opusu, filmić koji subvertira očekivanja i žanrove.

"Poker Face" počinje kao dječačka/mladenačka drama tipa "Ostani uz mene", predstavljajući australske prijatelje iz djetinjstva u prijelomnom trenutku učenja pokera (i budućeg negativca), a prije nego što izrastu u likove koje glume Crowe, Liam Hemsworth, RZA... Godinama kasnije, Croweov Jake Foley je postao tehnološki milijarder i organizira partiju "Texas Hold‘em" pokera pod egidom "pobjednik uzima sve".

Iako se Foley predstavlja riječima "imam 57 godina, ja sam kockar", "Poker Face" nije pokeraška drama centrirana isključivo na njegov lik i igru. Ni igra nije standardna, makar je u igri naizgled golema lova. Foley i Crowe kriju aseve u rukavu u igri povećanih uloga većih od života.

Mnogi skrivaju mračne tajne, jedan od njih, doznajemo, ima fatalnu dijagozu, u igri je i otrov da svi budu "na istoj razini", a stvari bivaju još gore kad se pojave Jakeova supruga Nicole i kćerka Rebecca (Brooke Satchwell, Molly Grace) te postanu taokinje Victora (Paul Tassone) i njegovih pajdaša. Kartaška igra se pretvara u talačku krizu, likovi se skrivaju u sobi panike, potežu se sačmarice i pištolji sa samo jednim metkom itd.

Reklo bi se, Crowe režira i glumi "pokeraškim licem", a često i znade blefirati u objema ulogama, još više kao scenarist, ali radi zanimljivu višežanrovsku subverziju i odbij smjestiti "Poker Face" u okvir samo jednog žanra (psihološka pokeraška drama, "heist" triler...) i igrati kako se od njega očekuje. Sve do samog kraja, Crowe odbija pložiti karte na stol i predati izgubljenu partiju.
