Slab prijem kritike zasad prati još jedan Netflixov svemirski film nakon "Ponoćnog neba" Georgea Clooneyja, a ni publika ga baš ne prihvaća raširenih ruku, iako nije uopće loš. Naprotiv, podcijenjeni "Slijepi putnik" ili "Stowaway" sasvim je solidan "space movie", k tome superiorniji nekolicini precijenjenih Netflixovih oskarovskih kandidata kao što su "Ma Rainey: Majka bluesa" ili "Gorštačka elegija".

Redatelj Joe Penna i koscenarist Ryan Morrison uspjeli su u prethodnom filmu "Arktik" žanr avanturističke "survival" drame načiniti i dalje interesantnim, a sada rade nešto slično s preživljavanjem u svemiru. Vidjeli smo niz novijih SF hitova o svemirskim misijama koje polaze po krivu ("Gravitacija", "Marsovac", "Trag života"...), no "Slijepi putnik" se izdvaja po tome što prilazi temi na realistički način i iz političkog kuta.

Naslov možda doziva "Osmog putnika" ili "Aliena", ali "Stowaway" nije SF horor. Titularni "slijepi putnik" je čovjek, a ne neko aliensko čudovište. Realističnost filma zavedena je odmah u uvodu. Pratimo lansiranje letjelice na dvogodišnju misiju na Mars na koju odlaze kapetanica broda Marina Barnett, liječnica Zoe Levenson i biolog David Kim (Toni Collette, Anna Kedrick, Daniel Dae Kim).

Sitni detalji ukazuju na to da su barem dvoje od njih troje neiskusni astronauti. Ogrlica liječnice podiže se do razine njezina lica kad se javi gravitacija, što ona nije očekivala, a biolog će povratiti. Ništa čudno: lansiranje u "Slijepom putniku" prikazano je uz puno neugodne trešnje na tragu "Prvog čovjeka", kad se čini(lo) da se letjelica može raspasti na proste faktore svakog trena, kao i posada, kako fizički, tako i psihički.

Sve to, ipak, vrijedi pretrpjeti radi pogleda na Zemlju iz svemira koji je (i) ovdje prilično spektakularan kad se naš planet polako ukaže kroz prozor letjelice i prizor oduševi Zoe. Uz pogled na Zemlju lakše se pretrpi izolacija i klaustrofobija na koju film tipuje u vrijeme klaustrobofične samoizolacije, fokusirajući se isključivo na posadu, pa tako uopće ne vidimo niti čujemo nekoga iz Houstona s kojim Marina i ekipa povremeno komuniciraju.

"Houstone, imamo problem" možda zato ostaje neizgovoreno, ali posada će se naći u problemu kad Marina otkrije da nisu sami na letu za Mars. S njima je mehaničar Michael Adams (Shamier Anderson) koji je, nekako, zapeo u trupu broda prilikom polijetanja, onesvijestio se i ozlijedio. Film ne ulazi previše u (neuvjerljivo) objašnjenje kako se to točno uspjelo dogoditi i kako je uopće preživio bez maske za kisik, dok gledatelj postavlja više pitanja nego što dobiva odgovora.

No, ako prihvatite tu situaciju takvom kakva jest, ono što slijedi je zanimljivo unatoč pojedinim neujednačenostima. Michaelova inicijalna panika i paranoja je veoma uvjerljiva jednom kad shvati da je u svemiru i da će dvije godine biti odvojen od sestre o kojoj se skrbi. Isprve se čini da bi nepredvidljivi Michael mogao biti prijetnja misiji u smislu da okrene letjelicu natrag prema Zemlji, stoga je neuvjerljivo kako se ubrzo smirio i prihvatio "novo normalno".

Međutim, on svejedno predstavlja opasnost za misiju i ljudstvo s obzirom da sada četvero ljudi troši ionako limitirane zalihe kisika predviđene za troje i s njim na brodu teško će živi doći do Marsa, odnosno svi bi se mogli ugušiti prije slijetanja na Crveni planet. I eto intrigantne dileme, konflikta, tj. ljudske, moralne drame na temu čiji je život vredniji. Kako reći Michaelu da je višak i kako ga se "riješiti", što je potencirano time da je on – crnac.

Dakle, ne samo što jedan crnac nije dio astronautske ekipe, već mehaničar, o njegovu životu i smrti odlučuju bijela astronautkinja i (subverzivno) "žuti" astronaut. David je Azijat i on ima najmanje etičko riješenje problema, predlažući Michaelu samoubojstvo otrovom.

Situacija je nudila priliku za više rasnih tenzija, ali i ovako "Stowaway" zanimljivo istražuje ljudsku prirodu spajajući udarne ovozemaljske teme 2020. u jednom izvanzemaljskom, svemirskom filmu – koronsku (samo)izolaciju, bitku za kisik i pokret "Black Lives Matter". U svemiru nitko ne može čuti vrisak crnog čovjeka?

Arktik na Marsu

"Arktik" je izvorno nastao kao "survival movie" na Marsu, ali Penna je odustao od koncepta kad ga je preduhitrio "Marsovac".

Slab prijem kritike zasad prati još jedan Netflixov svemirski film nakon "Ponoćnog neba" Georgea Clooneyja, a ni publika ga baš ne prihvaća raširenih ruku, iako nije uopće loš. Naprotiv, podcijenjeni "Slijepi putnik" ili "Stowaway" sasvim je solidan "space movie", k tome superiorniji nekolicini precijenjenih Netflixovih oskarovskih kandidata kao što su "Ma Rainey: Majka bluesa" ili "Gorštačka elegija".

Redatelj Joe Penna i koscenarist Ryan Morrison uspjeli su u prethodnom filmu "Arktik" žanr avanturističke "survival" drame načiniti i dalje interesantnim, a sada rade nešto slično s preživljavanjem u svemiru. Vidjeli smo niz novijih SF hitova o svemirskim misijama koje polaze po krivu ("Gravitacija", "Marsovac", "Trag života"...), no "Slijepi putnik" se izdvaja po tome što prilazi temi na realistički način i iz političkog kuta.

Naslov možda doziva "Osmog putnika" ili "Aliena", ali "Stowaway" nije SF horor. Titularni "slijepi putnik" je čovjek, a ne neko aliensko čudovište. Realističnost filma zavedena je odmah u uvodu. Pratimo lansiranje letjelice na dvogodišnju misiju na Mars na koju odlaze kapetanica broda Marina Barnett, liječnica Zoe Levenson i biolog David Kim (Toni Collette, Anna Kedrick, Daniel Dae Kim).

Sitni detalji ukazuju na to da su barem dvoje od njih troje neiskusni astronauti. Ogrlica liječnice podiže se do razine njezina lica kad se javi gravitacija, što ona nije očekivala, a biolog će povratiti. Ništa čudno: lansiranje u "Slijepom putniku" prikazano je uz puno neugodne trešnje na tragu "Prvog čovjeka", kad se čini(lo) da se letjelica može raspasti na proste faktore svakog trena, kao i posada, kako fizički, tako i psihički.

Sve to, ipak, vrijedi pretrpjeti radi pogleda na Zemlju iz svemira koji je (i) ovdje prilično spektakularan kad se naš planet polako ukaže kroz prozor letjelice i prizor oduševi Zoe. Uz pogled na Zemlju lakše se pretrpi izolacija i klaustrofobija na koju film tipuje u vrijeme klaustrobofične samoizolacije, fokusirajući se isključivo na posadu, pa tako uopće ne vidimo niti čujemo nekoga iz Houstona s kojim Marina i ekipa povremeno komuniciraju.

"Houstone, imamo problem" možda zato ostaje neizgovoreno, ali posada će se naći u problemu kad Marina otkrije da nisu sami na letu za Mars. S njima je mehaničar Michael Adams (Shamier Anderson) koji je, nekako, zapeo u trupu broda prilikom polijetanja, onesvijestio se i ozlijedio. Film ne ulazi previše u (neuvjerljivo) objašnjenje kako se to točno uspjelo dogoditi i kako je uopće preživio bez maske za kisik, dok gledatelj postavlja više pitanja nego što dobiva odgovora.

No, ako prihvatite tu situaciju takvom kakva jest, ono što slijedi je zanimljivo unatoč pojedinim neujednačenostima. Michaelova inicijalna panika i paranoja je veoma uvjerljiva jednom kad shvati da je u svemiru i da će dvije godine biti odvojen od sestre o kojoj se skrbi. Isprve se čini da bi nepredvidljivi Michael mogao biti prijetnja misiji u smislu da okrene letjelicu natrag prema Zemlji, stoga je neuvjerljivo kako se ubrzo smirio i prihvatio "novo normalno".

Međutim, on svejedno predstavlja opasnost za misiju i ljudstvo s obzirom da sada četvero ljudi troši ionako limitirane zalihe kisika predviđene za troje i s njim na brodu teško će živi doći do Marsa, odnosno svi bi se mogli ugušiti prije slijetanja na Crveni planet. I eto intrigantne dileme, konflikta, tj. ljudske, moralne drame na temu čiji je život vredniji. Kako reći Michaelu da je višak i kako ga se "riješiti", što je potencirano time da je on – crnac.

Dakle, ne samo što jedan crnac nije dio astronautske ekipe, već mehaničar, o njegovu životu i smrti odlučuju bijela astronautkinja i (subverzivno) "žuti" astronaut. David je Azijat i on ima najmanje etičko riješenje problema, predlažući Michaelu samoubojstvo otrovom.

Situacija je nudila priliku za više rasnih tenzija, ali i ovako "Stowaway" zanimljivo istražuje ljudsku prirodu spajajući udarne ovozemaljske teme 2020. u jednom izvanzemaljskom, svemirskom filmu – koronsku (samo)izolaciju, bitku za kisik i pokret "Black Lives Matter". U svemiru nitko ne može čuti vrisak crnog čovjeka?

"Arktik" je izvorno nastao kao "survival movie" na Marsu, ali Penna je odustao od koncepta kad ga je preduhitrio "Marsovac".
