Novela Daniela Kehlmanna iz 2016. godine ponovno je ujedinila redatelja/scenarista Davida Koeppa i glumca Kevina Bacona na filmu “Trebao si otići” (“You Should Have Left”), koji je premijerno došao na hrvatsko “online” videotržište.

Kehlmannov istoimeni predložak je ocijenjen kao “filmičan”, a sam pisac opisan kao “mađioničar ponora na tankoj granici između istine i fantastike” i “vodič u skrivene strane podsvijesti” koji je “pretvorio vlastitu glavu u ukletu kuću i u horor donio revoluciju”.

“Trebao si otići” se, utoliko, činio idealnim štivom za ekranizaciju od strane dvojca zaslužnog za jedan od najboljih horor trilera devedesetih “Odjek smrti”.

Za obojicu film predstavlja povratak u žanr: Bacon nije glumio u hororu od “Čovjeka bez tijela”, a Koepp je zadnji put napisao scenarij strave 2004. (“Tajni prozor”), dok se u međuvremenu, s više i manje uspjeha, režijski odao akcijskom trileru (“Žurna pošiljka”) i komediji (“Mortdecai”).

Očekivanja su bila velika, ali “You Should Have Left”, nažalost, nije dostojan nasljednik “Stir Of Echoes”, iako se činilo da bi mogao biti. Početak je obećavajući, kao i bildanje zapleta i postavljanje situacije/odnosa među likovima, ali žanrovski klišeji preuzimaju “Trebao si otići” negdje oko polovice i rasplet je ispao razočaravajući.

Teški koraci odzvanjaju kućom prateći sjenu nekog starijeg čovjeka koji se pojavljuje u sobi neke klinke i prene je, rekavši “Riječ je o tvom prokletom tatici”. Ispada da ružni san ne pripada klinki Elle (Avery Tiiu Essex), nego njezinu ocu, bankaru Theu Conroyu (Bacon).

”Prokleti košmari”, uzvikne Theo, a trenutak poslije slušamo kako su “nasilni i uznemirujući snovi samo pokušaj uma da se oslobodi pritiska dnevnih misli i strahova”. Theov um je pod pritiskom “dnevnih misli i strahova”: njegova supruga se utopila u kadi nakon što je popila tablete i on je bio optužen za smrt, ali i oslobođen optužbi.

Sada Theo živi s novom ženom, znatno mlađom glumicom Susannom (Seyfried), no opterećen je njezinim snimanjem scena seksa koje sluša kad posjeti filmski set i sumnja da ga vara. Da se maknu od svega, Theo, Susanna i Elle odlaze na odmor u “živopisni Wales”, gdje unajmljuju kuću koja se čini veća iznutra nego izvana, u biti i jest.

Koepp se poigrava s prostorom i vremenom: Theo se jedne večeri izgubi u labirintnim hodnicima ispod stepenica i par sati prolazi dok se ne vrati u sobu, iako se njemu nije činilo tako dugo. Uz to, svjetla se u kući pale i gase, netko ostavlja polaroid fotke Thea i njegove male familije na spavanju i poruku “Otiđi, trebao bi otići”, a tu su i iskrivljeni odrazi u zrcalima.

Što se događa? Je li kuća ukleta ili je sve manifestacija Theova uma? Radi li se o duhu ili neki lokalac terorizira obitelj? Je li sve san? ”To je samo prokleti san”, uvjerava se Theo, koji ne zna u kojem je momentu zapravo zaspao. Točno u trenutku kad se čini da će stvari postati zanimljive i Koepp izgraditi nadrealnu atmosferu psihološkog horor-trilera na temelju likova i njihovih poljuljanih odnosa, to se događa tek polovično.

Film postaje generički i nedostaje mu ugođajnosti, istinske jeze i intenziteta da bi postao novo “Isijavanje”, što naizgled želi postati, ili se dobacio do razine “Odjeka smrti”. Neki gledatelj možda porazmisli o tome je li i sam “treba(o) otići” prije nego što “You Should Have Left” dođe do kraja.

Novela Daniela Kehlmanna iz 2016. godine ponovno je ujedinila redatelja/scenarista Davida Koeppa i glumca Kevina Bacona na filmu “Trebao si otići” (“You Should Have Left”), koji je premijerno došao na hrvatsko “online” videotržište.

Kehlmannov istoimeni predložak je ocijenjen kao “filmičan”, a sam pisac opisan kao “mađioničar ponora na tankoj granici između istine i fantastike” i “vodič u skrivene strane podsvijesti” koji je “pretvorio vlastitu glavu u ukletu kuću i u horor donio revoluciju”.

“Trebao si otići” se, utoliko, činio idealnim štivom za ekranizaciju od strane dvojca zaslužnog za jedan od najboljih horor trilera devedesetih “Odjek smrti”.

Za obojicu film predstavlja povratak u žanr: Bacon nije glumio u hororu od “Čovjeka bez tijela”, a Koepp je zadnji put napisao scenarij strave 2004. (“Tajni prozor”), dok se u međuvremenu, s više i manje uspjeha, režijski odao akcijskom trileru (“Žurna pošiljka”) i komediji (“Mortdecai”).

Očekivanja su bila velika, ali “You Should Have Left”, nažalost, nije dostojan nasljednik “Stir Of Echoes”, iako se činilo da bi mogao biti. Početak je obećavajući, kao i bildanje zapleta i postavljanje situacije/odnosa među likovima, ali žanrovski klišeji preuzimaju “Trebao si otići” negdje oko polovice i rasplet je ispao razočaravajući.

Teški koraci odzvanjaju kućom prateći sjenu nekog starijeg čovjeka koji se pojavljuje u sobi neke klinke i prene je, rekavši “Riječ je o tvom prokletom tatici”. Ispada da ružni san ne pripada klinki Elle (Avery Tiiu Essex), nego njezinu ocu, bankaru Theu Conroyu (Bacon).

”Prokleti košmari”, uzvikne Theo, a trenutak poslije slušamo kako su “nasilni i uznemirujući snovi samo pokušaj uma da se oslobodi pritiska dnevnih misli i strahova”. Theov um je pod pritiskom “dnevnih misli i strahova”: njegova supruga se utopila u kadi nakon što je popila tablete i on je bio optužen za smrt, ali i oslobođen optužbi.

Sada Theo živi s novom ženom, znatno mlađom glumicom Susannom (Seyfried), no opterećen je njezinim snimanjem scena seksa koje sluša kad posjeti filmski set i sumnja da ga vara. Da se maknu od svega, Theo, Susanna i Elle odlaze na odmor u “živopisni Wales”, gdje unajmljuju kuću koja se čini veća iznutra nego izvana, u biti i jest.

Koepp se poigrava s prostorom i vremenom: Theo se jedne večeri izgubi u labirintnim hodnicima ispod stepenica i par sati prolazi dok se ne vrati u sobu, iako se njemu nije činilo tako dugo. Uz to, svjetla se u kući pale i gase, netko ostavlja polaroid fotke Thea i njegove male familije na spavanju i poruku “Otiđi, trebao bi otići”, a tu su i iskrivljeni odrazi u zrcalima.

Što se događa? Je li kuća ukleta ili je sve manifestacija Theova uma? Radi li se o duhu ili neki lokalac terorizira obitelj? Je li sve san? ”To je samo prokleti san”, uvjerava se Theo, koji ne zna u kojem je momentu zapravo zaspao. Točno u trenutku kad se čini da će stvari postati zanimljive i Koepp izgraditi nadrealnu atmosferu psihološkog horor-trilera na temelju likova i njihovih poljuljanih odnosa, to se događa tek polovično.

Film postaje generički i nedostaje mu ugođajnosti, istinske jeze i intenziteta da bi postao novo “Isijavanje”, što naizgled želi postati, ili se dobacio do razine “Odjeka smrti”. Neki gledatelj možda porazmisli o tome je li i sam “treba(o) otići” prije nego što “You Should Have Left” dođe do kraja.
