Automobilističke potjere postale su trend u sedamdesetima nakon spektakularne jurnjave u “Bullittu” sa Steveom McQueenom za upravljačem Forda Mustanga. Potjere su potencirale akcijnost kriminalističkih priča poput “Francuske veze” ili bile pokretač radnje i preslik samoga filma kao u “Dvoboju” i “Točki nestajanja”. Walter Hill je napravio dvostruki korak dalje u “Vozaču” (“The Driver”, 1978.).

Režirajući čak dvije jurnjave, Hill je u obje postigao podjednak akcijsko-trilerski intenzitet gledanja na rubu sjedala poput Petera Yatesa i Williama Friedkina u “Bullitu” i “The French Connection”, na mahove i veći. U drugoj jurnjavi potjeru je orkestrirao u suprotnom smjeru, godinama prije “Živjeti i umrijeti u Los Angelesu” i “Ronina”.

Pored toga, u njegovom filmu potjera je odraz titularnog vozača za bijeg koji nema ime, nego je nazvan po svojoj profesiji, kao i ostali karakteri u interpretaciji Brucea Derna i Isabelle Adjani.

Inspirativan za protagoniste novomilenijskih kultova “Drive” i “Baby Driver” u izvedbi Ryana Goslinga i Ansela Elgorta, lik vozača, kao netko tko malo priča i puno vozi, pravi je kuler u jednom od najkulerskijih filmova svih vremena prema mišljenju (ne samo) Quentina Tarantina.

Ljepuškasti Ryan O’Neal (“Barry Lyndon”, “Ljubavna priča”) fino se snašao kao zamjena za prvotno predviđenog McQueena s kojim je Hill kao scenarist surađivao na “Bijegu” Sama Peckinpaha. Glavni lik će napucati negativca kad mu ovaj zaprijeti pištoljem i kaže “Tip s tvojim stavom ne nosi oružje... glupo, jako glupo”, prevarivši se da je nenaoružan.

Međutim, automobil je njegovo najjače oružje preko kojeg se izražava njegova karakterizacija: vozač s vozilom postaje jedno, najbolje se osjećajući kad je na vozačevu sjedalu, upravljao Fordom Galaxiejem, Mercedesom Benzom 280 ili Chevrolet kamionetom, kao u tri ključne scene, kad je svaki put demonstrirao svoje bravure, možda i najviše uništavajući automobil u parking-garaži dio po dio.

Za volanom mu nitko nije ravan dok vozi od točke “A” do točke “B” i ne libi se zaigrati “igru kukavice”, nijedan policajac, uključujući i detektiva bez imena (Dern) u opsesivnoj potrazi za njime. Detektiv naziva vozača kaubojem jer se “vozika okolo i radi što hoće”.

“Uhvatit ću kauboja koji nikad nije uhvaćen, kauboja desperada”, zaklinje se detektiv i priznaje da stvarno voli loviti vozača, a čini se i da ovaj voli taj lov. Većina Hillovih protagonista su moderni kauboji, jednako kao što su i njegovi filmovi suvremene akcijske “mačo” kaubojštine (“Ratnici podzemlja”, “Južnjačka utjeha”, “Vatrene ulice”, “Teksaški graničar”, “Crveno usijanje”, “Posljednji preživjeli”, “Metak u glavu”) čak i kad nisu u klasičnom kaubojskom ruhu (“Jahači na duge staze”, “Mrtav za dolar”).

Vozač je postavio “template” za hillovskog protagonista kao ne samo kuler, već i pravi profesionalac, majstor u svom poslu, što mu priznaje i detektiv. “Respektiram ljude koji su dobri u tome što rade”, veli detektiv dok Hill u odnosu profi policajca i kriminalca, igri mačke i miša, priprema teren za “Vrućinu” Michaela Manna.

Protagonist je predstavljen u impresivnom uvodu lišenom dijaloga, citiranom i u “Vožnji” Nicolasa Windinga Refna i u “Vozaču” Edgara Wrighta: on u tišini čeka na pljačkaše, bez nervoze, hladan kao špricer. Ipak, Hill tiho bilda tenziju i anticipaciju predstojeće potjere.

Kad potjera krene, nitko ništa ne govori, samo divlja vožnja, škripanje guma, cviljenje kočnica i kršenje metala. Zvuk je važan za “Vozača”, slika još važnija u kinetičkim akcijskim scenama. Neonska svjetla Los Angelesa i njegovih ulica svjetlucaju tijekom noćnih potjera, a boje semafora (crvena, zelena), policijskih rotirki (crvena, plava) i unutrašnjosti tunela (zelena) ljube se i prelijevaju se u kadru.

Hill stvara sjajnu kolorističku atmosferu svjetlucava neo-noira koji će stilski buknuti u osamdesetima u filmovima kao što su “Lopov”, “Noćni jastrebovi”, “Istrebljivač”, “Glad za krvlju”, “Terminator”, “Burni ponedjeljak”... Svaki kadar je promišljen i isplaniran, a glavni lik efektno i ekonomično karakteriziran u kontekstu filma i redatelja. Vozač za volanom demonstrira izvrsne manevre, kao i Hill iza kamere. “The Driver” je njegov vjerojatno najstiliziraniji i najfilmičniji akcijski film.

Automobilističke potjere postale su trend u sedamdesetima nakon spektakularne jurnjave u “Bullittu” sa Steveom McQueenom za upravljačem Forda Mustanga. Potjere su potencirale akcijnost kriminalističkih priča poput “Francuske veze” ili bile pokretač radnje i preslik samoga filma kao u “Dvoboju” i “Točki nestajanja”. Walter Hill je napravio dvostruki korak dalje u “Vozaču” (“The Driver”, 1978.).

Režirajući čak dvije jurnjave, Hill je u obje postigao podjednak akcijsko-trilerski intenzitet gledanja na rubu sjedala poput Petera Yatesa i Williama Friedkina u “Bullitu” i “The French Connection”, na mahove i veći. U drugoj jurnjavi potjeru je orkestrirao u suprotnom smjeru, godinama prije “Živjeti i umrijeti u Los Angelesu” i “Ronina”.

Pored toga, u njegovom filmu potjera je odraz titularnog vozača za bijeg koji nema ime, nego je nazvan po svojoj profesiji, kao i ostali karakteri u interpretaciji Brucea Derna i Isabelle Adjani.

Inspirativan za protagoniste novomilenijskih kultova “Drive” i “Baby Driver” u izvedbi Ryana Goslinga i Ansela Elgorta, lik vozača, kao netko tko malo priča i puno vozi, pravi je kuler u jednom od najkulerskijih filmova svih vremena prema mišljenju (ne samo) Quentina Tarantina.

Ljepuškasti Ryan O’Neal (“Barry Lyndon”, “Ljubavna priča”) fino se snašao kao zamjena za prvotno predviđenog McQueena s kojim je Hill kao scenarist surađivao na “Bijegu” Sama Peckinpaha. Glavni lik će napucati negativca kad mu ovaj zaprijeti pištoljem i kaže “Tip s tvojim stavom ne nosi oružje... glupo, jako glupo”, prevarivši se da je nenaoružan.

Međutim, automobil je njegovo najjače oružje preko kojeg se izražava njegova karakterizacija: vozač s vozilom postaje jedno, najbolje se osjećajući kad je na vozačevu sjedalu, upravljao Fordom Galaxiejem, Mercedesom Benzom 280 ili Chevrolet kamionetom, kao u tri ključne scene, kad je svaki put demonstrirao svoje bravure, možda i najviše uništavajući automobil u parking-garaži dio po dio.

Za volanom mu nitko nije ravan dok vozi od točke “A” do točke “B” i ne libi se zaigrati “igru kukavice”, nijedan policajac, uključujući i detektiva bez imena (Dern) u opsesivnoj potrazi za njime. Detektiv naziva vozača kaubojem jer se “vozika okolo i radi što hoće”.

“Uhvatit ću kauboja koji nikad nije uhvaćen, kauboja desperada”, zaklinje se detektiv i priznaje da stvarno voli loviti vozača, a čini se i da ovaj voli taj lov. Većina Hillovih protagonista su moderni kauboji, jednako kao što su i njegovi filmovi suvremene akcijske “mačo” kaubojštine (“Ratnici podzemlja”, “Južnjačka utjeha”, “Vatrene ulice”, “Teksaški graničar”, “Crveno usijanje”, “Posljednji preživjeli”, “Metak u glavu”) čak i kad nisu u klasičnom kaubojskom ruhu (“Jahači na duge staze”, “Mrtav za dolar”).

Vozač je postavio “template” za hillovskog protagonista kao ne samo kuler, već i pravi profesionalac, majstor u svom poslu, što mu priznaje i detektiv. “Respektiram ljude koji su dobri u tome što rade”, veli detektiv dok Hill u odnosu profi policajca i kriminalca, igri mačke i miša, priprema teren za “Vrućinu” Michaela Manna.

Protagonist je predstavljen u impresivnom uvodu lišenom dijaloga, citiranom i u “Vožnji” Nicolasa Windinga Refna i u “Vozaču” Edgara Wrighta: on u tišini čeka na pljačkaše, bez nervoze, hladan kao špricer. Ipak, Hill tiho bilda tenziju i anticipaciju predstojeće potjere.

Kad potjera krene, nitko ništa ne govori, samo divlja vožnja, škripanje guma, cviljenje kočnica i kršenje metala. Zvuk je važan za “Vozača”, slika još važnija u kinetičkim akcijskim scenama. Neonska svjetla Los Angelesa i njegovih ulica svjetlucaju tijekom noćnih potjera, a boje semafora (crvena, zelena), policijskih rotirki (crvena, plava) i unutrašnjosti tunela (zelena) ljube se i prelijevaju se u kadru.

Hill stvara sjajnu kolorističku atmosferu svjetlucava neo-noira koji će stilski buknuti u osamdesetima u filmovima kao što su “Lopov”, “Noćni jastrebovi”, “Istrebljivač”, “Glad za krvlju”, “Terminator”, “Burni ponedjeljak”... Svaki kadar je promišljen i isplaniran, a glavni lik efektno i ekonomično karakteriziran u kontekstu filma i redatelja. Vozač za volanom demonstrira izvrsne manevre, kao i Hill iza kamere. “The Driver” je njegov vjerojatno najstiliziraniji i najfilmičniji akcijski film.

Automobilističke potjere postale su trend u sedamdesetima nakon spektakularne jurnjave u “Bullittu” sa Steveom McQueenom za upravljačem Forda Mustanga. Potjere su potencirale akcijnost kriminalističkih priča poput “Francuske veze” ili bile pokretač radnje i preslik samoga filma kao u “Dvoboju” i “Točki nestajanja”. Walter Hill je napravio dvostruki korak dalje u “Vozaču” (“The Driver”, 1978.).

Režirajući čak dvije jurnjave, Hill je u obje postigao podjednak akcijsko-trilerski intenzitet gledanja na rubu sjedala poput Petera Yatesa i Williama Friedkina u “Bullitu” i “The French Connection”, na mahove i veći. U drugoj jurnjavi potjeru je orkestrirao u suprotnom smjeru, godinama prije “Živjeti i umrijeti u Los Angelesu” i “Ronina”.

Pored toga, u njegovom filmu potjera je odraz titularnog vozača za bijeg koji nema ime, nego je nazvan po svojoj profesiji, kao i ostali karakteri u interpretaciji Brucea Derna i Isabelle Adjani.

Inspirativan za protagoniste novomilenijskih kultova “Drive” i “Baby Driver” u izvedbi Ryana Goslinga i Ansela Elgorta, lik vozača, kao netko tko malo priča i puno vozi, pravi je kuler u jednom od najkulerskijih filmova svih vremena prema mišljenju (ne samo) Quentina Tarantina.

Ljepuškasti Ryan O’Neal (“Barry Lyndon”, “Ljubavna priča”) fino se snašao kao zamjena za prvotno predviđenog McQueena s kojim je Hill kao scenarist surađivao na “Bijegu” Sama Peckinpaha. Glavni lik će napucati negativca kad mu ovaj zaprijeti pištoljem i kaže “Tip s tvojim stavom ne nosi oružje... glupo, jako glupo”, prevarivši se da je nenaoružan.

Međutim, automobil je njegovo najjače oružje preko kojeg se izražava njegova karakterizacija: vozač s vozilom postaje jedno, najbolje se osjećajući kad je na vozačevu sjedalu, upravljao Fordom Galaxiejem, Mercedesom Benzom 280 ili Chevrolet kamionetom, kao u tri ključne scene, kad je svaki put demonstrirao svoje bravure, možda i najviše uništavajući automobil u parking-garaži dio po dio.

Za volanom mu nitko nije ravan dok vozi od točke “A” do točke “B” i ne libi se zaigrati “igru kukavice”, nijedan policajac, uključujući i detektiva bez imena (Dern) u opsesivnoj potrazi za njime. Detektiv naziva vozača kaubojem jer se “vozika okolo i radi što hoće”.

“Uhvatit ću kauboja koji nikad nije uhvaćen, kauboja desperada”, zaklinje se detektiv i priznaje da stvarno voli loviti vozača, a čini se i da ovaj voli taj lov. Većina Hillovih protagonista su moderni kauboji, jednako kao što su i njegovi filmovi suvremene akcijske “mačo” kaubojštine (“Ratnici podzemlja”, “Južnjačka utjeha”, “Vatrene ulice”, “Teksaški graničar”, “Crveno usijanje”, “Posljednji preživjeli”, “Metak u glavu”) čak i kad nisu u klasičnom kaubojskom ruhu (“Jahači na duge staze”, “Mrtav za dolar”).
