Alantoin, ekstrakt biljke gavez i sastojak mnogih krema protiv starenja, može produljiti životni vijek nekih vrsta crva za više od 20 posto, jednako kao što to može učiniti i dijeta s ograničenim unosom kalorija.

Kad bi se takav lijek stvorio za čovjeka mogli bismo usporiti sat koji regulira genetsko starenje i dobiti prosječno 20 posto dulji životni vijek.

"Uočeno je da smanjeni unos kalorija pridonosi ljudskom zdravlju a, iako je potrebno dodatno istraživanje, naše otkriće može potencijalno rezultirati lijekovima  za ljudske bolesti povezane sa starenjem", kaže Joao Pedro de Magalhaes, znanstvenik sa sveučilišta Liverpool.

"Pokazali smo da ta tvar djeluje kod crva, no potrebna su istraživanja na modelima sisavaca", kaže jedan od znanstvenika Shaun Calvert.

"Sljedeći korak je otkriti mehanizme kojima alantoin produžava životni vijek, a ako se to može ponoviti kod čovjeka to bi značilo da možemo otkriti načine da živimo dulje", kaže Calvert.

usporavaju starenje a sada su britanski znanstvenici otkrili da sličan učinak kod crva ima i uobičajeni sastojak krema za lice - alantoin. 

Alantoin, ekstrakt biljke gavez i sastojak mnogih krema protiv starenja, može produljiti životni vijek nekih vrsta crva za više od 20 posto, jednako kao što to može učiniti i dijeta s ograničenim unosom kalorija.

Kad bi se takav lijek stvorio za čovjeka mogli bismo usporiti sat koji regulira genetsko starenje i dobiti prosječno 20 posto dulji životni vijek.

"Uočeno je da smanjeni unos kalorija pridonosi ljudskom zdravlju a, iako je potrebno dodatno istraživanje, naše otkriće može potencijalno rezultirati lijekovima  za ljudske bolesti povezane sa starenjem", kaže Joao Pedro de Magalhaes, znanstvenik sa sveučilišta Liverpool.

"Pokazali smo da ta tvar djeluje kod crva, no potrebna su istraživanja na modelima sisavaca", kaže jedan od znanstvenika Shaun Calvert.

"Sljedeći korak je otkriti mehanizme kojima alantoin produžava životni vijek, a ako se to može ponoviti kod čovjeka to bi značilo da možemo otkriti načine da živimo dulje", kaže Calvert.
