U proteklih sedam godina škotski fotograf Kieran Dodds fotografirao je riđokose iz cijelog svijeta.
I sam Kieran Dodds je "blijed i riđ", za što kaže da je klišej škotskog nacionalnog identiteta, ali on želi iskoristiti boju kose da ilustrira globalni fenomen.
"Ovo nije o kosi," kaže on. "Ovo je priča o čovječanstvu i tome kako smo svi napravljeni od istog materijala. S riđom kosom, možete vidjeti tu povezanost."
Škotska je međunarodno žarište riđokosih i Kieran ih nije imao problema pronaći i fotografirati u svojoj domovini.
No, prisustvovao je i Svjetskom danu riđokosih u Londonu, gdje je upoznao ljude iz cijelog svijeta.
Zatim je otputovao u ruski grad Perm, još jedno žarište riđokosih, mjesto koje se nalazi na istoku poput Irana, koje je na sličnoj geografskoj širini kao sjever Škotske.

Riđokosi se češće mogu naći u sjevernim geografskim širinama, jer prilagodba gena omogućuje apsorpciju vitamina D uz malo sunčeve svjetlosti.
Međutim, Kieran je otputovao na Karibe kako bi fotografirao jamajčanske riđokose na Treasure Beachu, što je rezultat složenog genetskog nasljeđa koje je vjerojatno uključivalo škotske mornare i doseljenike.
Rezultat Kieranova projekta je knjiga "Gingers".
Naslov je odabrao unatoč tome što se taj izraz često koristi kao uvreda.
"Osjećam da je to stvarno dobar opis", kaže on, "Jer boja kose nije krvavo crvena, to je mješavina zlatne, žute i crvene."
39-godišnji fotograf kaže da je njegovo iskustvo odrastanja s tom bojom kose imalo odjeka u mnogim razgovorima koje je vodio s ljudima koje je fotografirao, bez obzira na to gdje su u svijetu odrasli.

„Tako je na većini mjesta", rekao je. „To je nešto što su ljudi smatrali nevjerojatnim i dobivaju komplimente za to kao djeca.
“Potom dolazi razdoblje osnovne i srednje škole, gdje je to vrlo vidljiva osobina po kojoj se ističeš, ali te se i zlostavlja ili vrijeđa. Ali jednom kada to prođete, ako niste iz toga izašli previše povrijeđeni, počinjete prihvaćati boju kose kao nešto što vas čini jedinstvenim, kao posebnu moć, i vidite je kao važan dio vašeg identiteta."
Kieran kaže da je Jamajka jedino mjesto gdje je naišao na potpuno drugačiju sliku, gdje nitko s kim je razgovarao nije rekao da doživljava negativne komentare.
"Pokušavao sam shvatiti zašto", kaže on. "Jedini zaključak je da to možda ima veze s time što je Jamajka tako raznolika zemlja. Raznolikost je norma, a ovo je samo jedna od njih."
Kieran je projekt započeo 2013., prije referenduma o neovisnosti Škotske, što ga je potaknulo na razmišljanje o klišeju koji vrijedi za škotski identitet.

Kaže da su čak i u Škotskoj, za koju se smatra da ima veći udio riđokosih nego u bilo kojoj drugoj zemlji na svijetu, riđokosi manjina.
Želio je pokazati da čak ni ovaj sićušni dio čovječanstva nije homogena skupina.
“Riđa kosa je nešto po čemu ljudi vide nas Škote”, kaže.
"Ako živite ovdje, shvaćate da su Škoti nevjerojatno raznolika čudna skupina."
Istovremeno je posjetio Nacionalnu galeriju Škotske gdje je otkrio da su renesansni umjetnici slavili, čak i duboko poštovali, riđu kosu.
“Otišao sam u renesansni dio i shvatio da svaka slika ima čovjeka s riđom kosom”, kaže.

"Mislio sam da je zabavno što južnoeuropski umjetnici dokumentiraju bliskoistočne figure, obično Isusa i Mariju, kao riđokose. Zaintrigiralo me jer se radi o božanskim osobnostima.", rekao je.
Kiran kaže da je promatrajući božanske figure s riđom kosom vidio da obični ljudi imaju jednako dostojanstvo. Zato u knjizi nema poznatih osoba.
Dugo se vremena smatralo da je samo jedan gen MC1R odgovoran za riđu kosu, s verzijama koje su prenijele oba roditelja. Međutim, nedavna otkrića pokazuju da bi osam gena moglo biti odgovorno za riđu kosu.
Smatra se da manje od dva posto svjetske populacije ima riđu kosu.
U Škotskoj je čak 13 posto riđokosih - otprilike 700.000 ljudi.
Škotska je toliko žarište riđokosih da je Kieran, kad je na društvenim mrežama tražio modele za snimanje, bio preplavljen odgovorima.

"Moj lokalni pomoćnik nije mislio da će to biti velika stvar, a onda je bio preplavljen ljudima", kaže Kieran.
"Svi smo mi dio putujuće vrste i želio sam uspostaviti te veze."

U proteklih sedam godina škotski fotograf Kieran Dodds fotografirao je riđokose iz cijelog svijeta.
I sam Kieran Dodds je "blijed i riđ", za što kaže da je klišej škotskog nacionalnog identiteta, ali on želi iskoristiti boju kose da ilustrira globalni fenomen.
"Ovo nije o kosi," kaže on. "Ovo je priča o čovječanstvu i tome kako smo svi napravljeni od istog materijala. S riđom kosom, možete vidjeti tu povezanost."
Škotska je međunarodno žarište riđokosih i Kieran ih nije imao problema pronaći i fotografirati u svojoj domovini.
No, prisustvovao je i Svjetskom danu riđokosih u Londonu, gdje je upoznao ljude iz cijelog svijeta.
Zatim je otputovao u ruski grad Perm, još jedno žarište riđokosih, mjesto koje se nalazi na istoku poput Irana, koje je na sličnoj geografskoj širini kao sjever Škotske.

Riđokosi se češće mogu naći u sjevernim geografskim širinama, jer prilagodba gena omogućuje apsorpciju vitamina D uz malo sunčeve svjetlosti.
Međutim, Kieran je otputovao na Karibe kako bi fotografirao jamajčanske riđokose na Treasure Beachu, što je rezultat složenog genetskog nasljeđa koje je vjerojatno uključivalo škotske mornare i doseljenike.
Rezultat Kieranova projekta je knjiga "Gingers".
Naslov je odabrao unatoč tome što se taj izraz često koristi kao uvreda.
"Osjećam da je to stvarno dobar opis", kaže on, "Jer boja kose nije krvavo crvena, to je mješavina zlatne, žute i crvene."
39-godišnji fotograf kaže da je njegovo iskustvo odrastanja s tom bojom kose imalo odjeka u mnogim razgovorima koje je vodio s ljudima koje je fotografirao, bez obzira na to gdje su u svijetu odrasli.

„Tako je na većini mjesta", rekao je. „To je nešto što su ljudi smatrali nevjerojatnim i dobivaju komplimente za to kao djeca.
“Potom dolazi razdoblje osnovne i srednje škole, gdje je to vrlo vidljiva osobina po kojoj se ističeš, ali te se i zlostavlja ili vrijeđa. Ali jednom kada to prođete, ako niste iz toga izašli previše povrijeđeni, počinjete prihvaćati boju kose kao nešto što vas čini jedinstvenim, kao posebnu moć, i vidite je kao važan dio vašeg identiteta."
Kieran kaže da je Jamajka jedino mjesto gdje je naišao na potpuno drugačiju sliku, gdje nitko s kim je razgovarao nije rekao da doživljava negativne komentare.
"Pokušavao sam shvatiti zašto", kaže on. "Jedini zaključak je da to možda ima veze s time što je Jamajka tako raznolika zemlja. Raznolikost je norma, a ovo je samo jedna od njih."
Kieran je projekt započeo 2013., prije referenduma o neovisnosti Škotske, što ga je potaknulo na razmišljanje o klišeju koji vrijedi za škotski identitet.

Kaže da su čak i u Škotskoj, za koju se smatra da ima veći udio riđokosih nego u bilo kojoj drugoj zemlji na svijetu, riđokosi manjina.
Želio je pokazati da čak ni ovaj sićušni dio čovječanstva nije homogena skupina.
“Riđa kosa je nešto po čemu ljudi vide nas Škote”, kaže.
"Ako živite ovdje, shvaćate da su Škoti nevjerojatno raznolika čudna skupina."
Istovremeno je posjetio Nacionalnu galeriju Škotske gdje je otkrio da su renesansni umjetnici slavili, čak i duboko poštovali, riđu kosu.
“Otišao sam u renesansni dio i shvatio da svaka slika ima čovjeka s riđom kosom”, kaže.

"Mislio sam da je zabavno što južnoeuropski umjetnici dokumentiraju bliskoistočne figure, obično Isusa i Mariju, kao riđokose. Zaintrigiralo me jer se radi o božanskim osobnostima.", rekao je.
Kiran kaže da je promatrajući božanske figure s riđom kosom vidio da obični ljudi imaju jednako dostojanstvo. Zato u knjizi nema poznatih osoba.
Dugo se vremena smatralo da je samo jedan gen MC1R odgovoran za riđu kosu, s verzijama koje su prenijele oba roditelja. Međutim, nedavna otkrića pokazuju da bi osam gena moglo biti odgovorno za riđu kosu.
Smatra se da manje od dva posto svjetske populacije ima riđu kosu.
U Škotskoj je čak 13 posto riđokosih - otprilike 700.000 ljudi.
Škotska je toliko žarište riđokosih da je Kieran, kad je na društvenim mrežama tražio modele za snimanje, bio preplavljen odgovorima.

"Moj lokalni pomoćnik nije mislio da će to biti velika stvar, a onda je bio preplavljen ljudima", kaže Kieran.
