Britanski znanstvenici proučavali su prehrambene navike plemena Fore iz Papua Nove Gvineje te došli do zaključka da su njihove kanibalističke navike potaknule otpornost na bolest kuru, neurološko oboljenje slično kravljem ludilu. Rezultati ovog istraživanja mogli bi biti od velikog značaja za liječenje Parkinsonove bolesti i demencije, javlja National Geographic.

Za bolest kuru doznalo se kad je liječnik koji je radio na Papua Gvineji primijetio da mnogi članovi plemena Fore pate od neobičnih simptoma. Kod pacijenata bi se prvo izgubila sposobnost hoda, potom žvakanja i gutanja, što je vodilo gubitku kilograma i u konačnici smrti. Članovi plemena bolest su nazvali "kuru", što znači "drhtati od straha". Od ove bolesti svake godine je umiralo dva posto ljudi u plemenskoj zajednici.

Pleme Fore poznato je po svojim pogrebnim obredima koji uključuju gozbe na kojima muškarci jedu meso svojih pokojnih rođaka, dok žene jedu njihove mozgove. Članovi plemena na ovaj kult gledaju kao na iskazivanje poštovanja svojim voljenima. 

Međutim, u mozgu pokojnika nalaze se molekule koje mogu biti smrtonosne ako se pojedu. Dakle, bolest kuru prenosila se upravo zbog navedenog rituala, jer se njezine čestice mogu regenerirati i reproducirati. Inkubacija mož​e potrajati i pedeset dana.

Zabranom kanibalističkih obreda 1950. godine na Novoj Gvineji, bolest kuru je počela jenjavati. Međutim, istražujući ovu bolest znanstvenici su došli do zaključka da je pleme Fore zahvaljujući kanibalizmu s vremenom zapravo razvilo imunitet.

Znanstvenici trenutno ispituju neurološke strukture priona, sićušnih čestica koje bi mogle pomoći u lečenju Alzheimera, Parkinsonove bolesti i drugih sličnih neuroloških oboljenja, piše National Geographic.

Britanski znanstvenici proučavali su prehrambene navike plemena Fore iz Papua Nove Gvineje te došli do zaključka da su njihove kanibalističke navike potaknule otpornost na bolest kuru, neurološko oboljenje slično kravljem ludilu. Rezultati ovog istraživanja mogli bi biti od velikog značaja za liječenje Parkinsonove bolesti i demencije, javlja National Geographic.

Za bolest kuru doznalo se kad je liječnik koji je radio na Papua Gvineji primijetio da mnogi članovi plemena Fore pate od neobičnih simptoma. Kod pacijenata bi se prvo izgubila sposobnost hoda, potom žvakanja i gutanja, što je vodilo gubitku kilograma i u konačnici smrti. Članovi plemena bolest su nazvali "kuru", što znači "drhtati od straha". Od ove bolesti svake godine je umiralo dva posto ljudi u plemenskoj zajednici.

Pleme Fore poznato je po svojim pogrebnim obredima koji uključuju gozbe na kojima muškarci jedu meso svojih pokojnih rođaka, dok žene jedu njihove mozgove. Članovi plemena na ovaj kult gledaju kao na iskazivanje poštovanja svojim voljenima. 

Međutim, u mozgu pokojnika nalaze se molekule koje mogu biti smrtonosne ako se pojedu. Dakle, bolest kuru prenosila se upravo zbog navedenog rituala, jer se njezine čestice mogu regenerirati i reproducirati. Inkubacija mož​e potrajati i pedeset dana.

Zabranom kanibalističkih obreda 1950. godine na Novoj Gvineji, bolest kuru je počela jenjavati. Međutim, istražujući ovu bolest znanstvenici su došli do zaključka da je pleme Fore zahvaljujući kanibalizmu s vremenom zapravo razvilo imunitet.

Znanstvenici trenutno ispituju neurološke strukture priona, sićušnih čestica koje bi mogle pomoći u lečenju Alzheimera, Parkinsonove bolesti i drugih sličnih neuroloških oboljenja, piše National Geographic.

Svijetla strana kanibalizma: plemenski obred u kojem su žene jele mozgove rođaka možda drži ključ liječenja demencije

Britanski znanstvenici proučavali su prehrambene navike plemena Fore iz Papua Nove Gvineje te došli do zaključka da su njihove kanibalističke navike potaknule otpornost na bolest kuru, neurološko oboljenje slično kravljem ludilu. Rezultati ovog istraživanja mogli bi biti od velikog značaja za liječenje Parkinsonove bolesti i demencije, javlja National Geographic.

Za bolest kuru doznalo se kad je liječnik koji je radio na Papua Gvineji primijetio da mnogi članovi plemena Fore pate od neobičnih simptoma. Kod pacijenata bi se prvo izgubila sposobnost hoda, potom žvakanja i gutanja, što je vodilo gubitku kilograma i u konačnici smrti.
