Američki znanstvenici otkrili su da je shizofrenija, nakon starije životne dobi, drugi najrizičniji faktor za smrtni ishod od posljedica covida-19, piše portal Science Alert.
Studija je provedena između ožujka i svibnja prošle godine na 7.350 Njujorčana koji su bili pozitivni na koronavirus, a znanstvenici su ih pratili 45 dana nakon postavljanja dijagnoze.
Među njima je bilo i 75 pacijenata koji su bolovali od shizofrenije. Studija je pokazala da je rizik od smrtnog ishoda od covida kod tih pacijenata bio gotovo triput veći u odnosu na pacijente koji nisu bolovali od tog poremećaja, ustanovili su znanstvenici.
Dakle, u spomenutoj grupi ispitanika shizofrenija je bila na drugome mjestu po riziku od smrti od covida, odmah iza starije životne dobi.
“Naši rezultati pokazali su da su ljudi koji boluju od shizofrenije iznimno ranjivi na covid”, rekla je psihijatrica Katlyn Nemani iz njujorškog sveučilišnog Medicinskog centra Langone.
Udar na imunosni sustav
Shizofrenija je mentalni poremećaj koji mijenja bolesnikovu percepciju stvarnosti i utječe na njihovo raspoloženje.
“Ovo su rezultati koji zvone na uzbunu”, rekao je Tom Pollak, psihijatar na londonskom King’s Collegeu koji nije sudjelovao u istraživanju. “Ti pacijenti su ionako među najranjivijim članovima društva o kojima se većina zdravstvenih sustava u svijetu nedovoljno brine”, dodao je.
Bolest može značajno poremetiti njihov imunosni sustav pa je to mogući razlog ranjivosti na covid, tvrde autori studije.
Stručnjaci koji nisu bili uključeni u istraživanje oprezniji su sa zaključcima i vjeruju da se rezultati studije mogu objasniti drugim komorbiditetima, poput pretilosti kojoj su shizofreničari skloni.
Lošeg fizičkog zdravlja
Mučeni paranojom i stigmom i zbog toga često usamljeni, oboljeli od shizofrenije nerijetko izbjegavaju tražiti pomoć. Čak i bez covida, lošeg su fizičkog zdravlja i kraćeg životnog vijeka od prosjeka.
Bez obzira na razmimoilaženja u stajalištima, studija nedvojbeno ukazuje na to da je potrebno usredotočiti se na pomoć ranjivim skupinama, što oboljeli od shizofrenije u svakom slučaju jesu.
“Istraživanje upućuje na to da osobe koje boluju od shizofrenije treba svrstati u grupu visokog rizika i omogućiti im brz pristup cjepivu”, rekao je psihijatar i epidemiolog Matthew Hotopf s londonskog King’s Collegea koji nije sudjelovao u istraživanju.
Studija objavljena u časopisu JAMA Psychiatry pokazala je i da u osoba s poremećajima raspoloženja, poput tjeskobe, nije uočen povećan rizik od smrtnog ishoda od posljedica covida.

Američki znanstvenici otkrili su da je shizofrenija, nakon starije životne dobi, drugi najrizičniji faktor za smrtni ishod od posljedica covida-19, piše portal Science Alert.
Studija je provedena između ožujka i svibnja prošle godine na 7.350 Njujorčana koji su bili pozitivni na koronavirus, a znanstvenici su ih pratili 45 dana nakon postavljanja dijagnoze.
Među njima je bilo i 75 pacijenata koji su bolovali od shizofrenije. Studija je pokazala da je rizik od smrtnog ishoda od covida kod tih pacijenata bio gotovo triput veći u odnosu na pacijente koji nisu bolovali od tog poremećaja, ustanovili su znanstvenici.
Dakle, u spomenutoj grupi ispitanika shizofrenija je bila na drugome mjestu po riziku od smrti od covida, odmah iza starije životne dobi.
“Naši rezultati pokazali su da su ljudi koji boluju od shizofrenije iznimno ranjivi na covid”, rekla je psihijatrica Katlyn Nemani iz njujorškog sveučilišnog Medicinskog centra Langone.
Udar na imunosni sustav
Shizofrenija je mentalni poremećaj koji mijenja bolesnikovu percepciju stvarnosti i utječe na njihovo raspoloženje.
“Ovo su rezultati koji zvone na uzbunu”, rekao je Tom Pollak, psihijatar na londonskom King’s Collegeu koji nije sudjelovao u istraživanju. “Ti pacijenti su ionako među najranjivijim članovima društva o kojima se većina zdravstvenih sustava u svijetu nedovoljno brine”, dodao je.
Bolest može značajno poremetiti njihov imunosni sustav pa je to mogući razlog ranjivosti na covid, tvrde autori studije.
Stručnjaci koji nisu bili uključeni u istraživanje oprezniji su sa zaključcima i vjeruju da se rezultati studije mogu objasniti drugim komorbiditetima, poput pretilosti kojoj su shizofreničari skloni.
Lošeg fizičkog zdravlja
Mučeni paranojom i stigmom i zbog toga često usamljeni, oboljeli od shizofrenije nerijetko izbjegavaju tražiti pomoć. Čak i bez covida, lošeg su fizičkog zdravlja i kraćeg životnog vijeka od prosjeka.
Bez obzira na razmimoilaženja u stajalištima, studija nedvojbeno ukazuje na to da je potrebno usredotočiti se na pomoć ranjivim skupinama, što oboljeli od shizofrenije u svakom slučaju jesu.
“Istraživanje upućuje na to da osobe koje boluju od shizofrenije treba svrstati u grupu visokog rizika i omogućiti im brz pristup cjepivu”, rekao je psihijatar i epidemiolog Matthew Hotopf s londonskog King’s Collegea koji nije sudjelovao u istraživanju.
Studija objavljena u časopisu JAMA Psychiatry pokazala je i da u osoba s poremećajima raspoloženja, poput tjeskobe, nije uočen povećan rizik od smrtnog ishoda od posljedica covida.
