Sve više ljudi diljem svijeta pati jer njihov imunološki sistem više ne može razlikovati zdrave stanice od mikroorganizama koji su ih napadali. Obrana od bolesti, koja ih je nekada štitila, umjesto toga napada njihova tkiva i organe.

Ulažu se veliki međunarodni istraživački napori u borbi protiv ovog trenda – uključujući inicijativu na londonskom Institutu "Francis Crick", gdje su dva svjetska stručnjaka, James Lee i Carola Vinuesa, osnovali zasebne istraživačke grupe kako bi pomogle u utvrđivanju točnih uzroka autoimunih bolesti.

"Broj autoimunih slučajeva počeo je rasti prije otprilike 40 godina na Zapadu", rekao je Lee za Observer. "Međutim, sada vidimo da se neki pojavljuju u zemljama koje nikada prije nisu imale takve bolesti.", prenosi Radiosarajevo.ba.

Na primjer, najveći nedavni porast slučajeva upalnih bolesti crijeva zabilježen je na Bliskom istoku i istočnoj Aziji. Prije toga gotovo da nisu vidjeli ovu bolest.

Autoimune bolesti se kreću od dijabetesa tipa 1 do reumatoidnog artritisa, upalne bolesti crijeva i multiple skleroze.

Samo u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, najmanje 4 milijuna ljudi razvilo je takva stanja, a neki pojedinci imaju i više od jednog. Na međunarodnoj razini, piše Guardian, procjenjuje se da slučajevi autoimunih bolesti rastu između tri i devet posto godišnje.

Većina znanstvenika vjeruje da faktori okoliša igraju ključnu ulogu u ovoj promjeni.

genetska predispozicija čuva od 'brze hrane'

"Ljudska genetika nije se promijenila u posljednjih nekoliko desetljeća", rekao je Lee. "Dakle, nešto se mora mijenjati u vanjskom svijetu na način koji povećava našu predispoziciju za autoimune bolesti."

Ovu ideju podržala je Vinuesa. Ukazala je na promjene u prehrani koje se događaju jer sve više zemalja usvaja "zapadnjačku" prehranu i ljudi kupuju više brze hrane.

"U tzv. brzoj hrani nema važnih sastojaka, poput vlakana, a dokazi sugeriraju da ova promjena utječe na mikrobiom osobe - zbroj mikroorganizama koje imamo u crijevima i koji igraju ključnu ulogu u kontroli različitih tjelesnih funkcija", kazala je Vinuesa. "Ove promjene u našim mikrobiomima tada možda pokreću autoimune bolesti, kojih je sada otkriveno više od 100 vrsta."

"Ako nemate određenu genetsku predispoziciju, nećete nužno dobiti autoimunu bolest, bez obzira na to koliko brze hrane jedete", napomenula je Vinuesa. "Ne možemo puno učiniti da zaustavimo globalno širenje franšiza brze hrane. Umjesto toga, pokušavamo razumjeti temeljne genetske mehanizme koji podupiru autoimune bolesti i čine neke ljude osjetljivima, a druge ne. Želimo se pozabaviti pitanjem na toj razini."

Nije sve lako kad si mlad

Ovaj zadatak je moguć zahvaljujući razvoju tehnika zbog kojih znanstvenici sada mogu uočiti male DNK razlike među velikim brojem pojedinaca. Na taj način moguće je identificirati uobičajene genetske obrasce među onima koji boluju od autoimune bolesti.

"Donedavno, nismo imali alate za to, ali sada imamo nevjerojatnu moć sekvenciranja DNK u velikim razmjerima i to je sve promijenilo", rekao je Lee.

"Imamo puno potencijalno korisnih novih terapija koje se stalno razvijaju, ali ne znamo kojim pacijentima ih dati, jer sada shvaćamo da ne znamo točno koju verziju bolesti imaju. A, to je sada ključni cilj autoimunih istraživanja. Moramo naučiti kako grupirati i stratificirati pacijente kako bismo im mogli dati pravu terapiju."

Lee je također naglasio da sve veći broj slučajeva autoimunih bolesti diljem svijeta znači da su novi tretmani i lijekovi sada potrebniji više nego ikada prije.

"Trenutno ne postoje lijekovi za autoimune bolesti, koje se obično razvijaju kod mladih ljudi – dok pokušavaju završiti školovanje, dobiti prvi posao i imati obitelji", rekao je. "To znači da se sve veći broj ljudi suočava s operacijom ili će morati primati injekcije do kraja života. To može biti strašno za pacijente i veliki pritisak na zdravstvene usluge. Stoga imamo hitnu potrebu za pronalaženjem novih, učinkovitih tretmana.”, prenosi Radiosarajevo.ba.

Sve više ljudi diljem svijeta pati jer njihov imunološki sistem više ne može razlikovati zdrave stanice od mikroorganizama koji su ih napadali. Obrana od bolesti, koja ih je nekada štitila, umjesto toga napada njihova tkiva i organe.

Ulažu se veliki međunarodni istraživački napori u borbi protiv ovog trenda – uključujući inicijativu na londonskom Institutu "Francis Crick", gdje su dva svjetska stručnjaka, James Lee i Carola Vinuesa, osnovali zasebne istraživačke grupe kako bi pomogle u utvrđivanju točnih uzroka autoimunih bolesti.

"Broj autoimunih slučajeva počeo je rasti prije otprilike 40 godina na Zapadu", rekao je Lee za Observer. "Međutim, sada vidimo da se neki pojavljuju u zemljama koje nikada prije nisu imale takve bolesti.", prenosi Radiosarajevo.ba.

Na primjer, najveći nedavni porast slučajeva upalnih bolesti crijeva zabilježen je na Bliskom istoku i istočnoj Aziji. Prije toga gotovo da nisu vidjeli ovu bolest.

Autoimune bolesti se kreću od dijabetesa tipa 1 do reumatoidnog artritisa, upalne bolesti crijeva i multiple skleroze.

Samo u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, najmanje 4 milijuna ljudi razvilo je takva stanja, a neki pojedinci imaju i više od jednog. Na međunarodnoj razini, piše Guardian, procjenjuje se da slučajevi autoimunih bolesti rastu između tri i devet posto godišnje.

Većina znanstvenika vjeruje da faktori okoliša igraju ključnu ulogu u ovoj promjeni.

genetska predispozicija čuva od 'brze hrane'

"Ljudska genetika nije se promijenila u posljednjih nekoliko desetljeća", rekao je Lee. "Dakle, nešto se mora mijenjati u vanjskom svijetu na način koji povećava našu predispoziciju za autoimune bolesti."

Ovu ideju podržala je Vinuesa. Ukazala je na promjene u prehrani koje se događaju jer sve više zemalja usvaja "zapadnjačku" prehranu i ljudi kupuju više brze hrane.

"U tzv. brzoj hrani nema važnih sastojaka, poput vlakana, a dokazi sugeriraju da ova promjena utječe na mikrobiom osobe - zbroj mikroorganizama koje imamo u crijevima i koji igraju ključnu ulogu u kontroli različitih tjelesnih funkcija", kazala je Vinuesa. "Ove promjene u našim mikrobiomima tada možda pokreću autoimune bolesti, kojih je sada otkriveno više od 100 vrsta."

"Ako nemate određenu genetsku predispoziciju, nećete nužno dobiti autoimunu bolest, bez obzira na to koliko brze hrane jedete", napomenula je Vinuesa. "Ne možemo puno učiniti da zaustavimo globalno širenje franšiza brze hrane. Umjesto toga, pokušavamo razumjeti temeljne genetske mehanizme koji podupiru autoimune bolesti i čine neke ljude osjetljivima, a druge ne. Želimo se pozabaviti pitanjem na toj razini."

Nije sve lako kad si mlad

Ovaj zadatak je moguć zahvaljujući razvoju tehnika zbog kojih znanstvenici sada mogu uočiti male DNK razlike među velikim brojem pojedinaca. Na taj način moguće je identificirati uobičajene genetske obrasce među onima koji boluju od autoimune bolesti.

"Donedavno, nismo imali alate za to, ali sada imamo nevjerojatnu moć sekvenciranja DNK u velikim razmjerima i to je sve promijenilo", rekao je Lee.

"Imamo puno potencijalno korisnih novih terapija koje se stalno razvijaju, ali ne znamo kojim pacijentima ih dati, jer sada shvaćamo da ne znamo točno koju verziju bolesti imaju. A, to je sada ključni cilj autoimunih istraživanja. Moramo naučiti kako grupirati i stratificirati pacijente kako bismo im mogli dati pravu terapiju."

Lee je također naglasio da sve veći broj slučajeva autoimunih bolesti diljem svijeta znači da su novi tretmani i lijekovi sada potrebniji više nego ikada prije.

"Trenutno ne postoje lijekovi za autoimune bolesti, koje se obično razvijaju kod mladih ljudi – dok pokušavaju završiti školovanje, dobiti prvi posao i imati obitelji", rekao je. "To znači da se sve veći broj ljudi suočava s operacijom ili će morati primati injekcije do kraja života. To može biti strašno za pacijente i veliki pritisak na zdravstvene usluge. Stoga imamo hitnu potrebu za pronalaženjem novih, učinkovitih tretmana.”, prenosi Radiosarajevo.ba.
