Nedavna studija pokazala je da protein prisutan u gingivalnom epitelu (dio desni koji okružuje zube) može imati antimikrobna svojstva, naročito protiv bakterije Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis). Osim što igra značajnu ulogu u razvoju parodontoze, ova bakterija također može biti povezana s neurodegenerativnim bolestima kao što je Alzheimerova bolest.

Otkrića studije koju su vodili Antonio Nanci, profesor na Odsjeku stomatologije na Sveučilištu u Montrealu, i postdoktorandica Charline Mary, u suradnji s kolegama sa Sveučilišta Laval i Sveučilišta McGill, nedavno su objavljeni u časopisu Nature Scientific Report.

Studija baca novo svjetlo na sekretorni fosfoprotein koji veže kalcij i koji je bogat prolin-glutaminom (SCPPPQ1), što je protein koji izlučuju stanice spojnog epitela. Nova saznanja sugeriraju da ovaj protein ima antibakterijski potencijal i pokušavaju identificirati njegove aktivne dijelove, prenosi Jutarnji.

Profesor Nanci, koji također vodi katedru za istraživanje kalcificiranih tkiva, biomaterijala i stvaranje slika struktura, kaže kako bi se 'antibakterijski potencijal proteina SCPPPQ1 mogao iskoristiti ne samo za liječenje parodontoze, već i kao način provjere učinaka bakterija na mozak ili na druga mjesta na koja se šire.'

'Ovaj protein mogao bi ponuditi još jednu strategiju za rješavanje problema otpornosti bakterija', rekla je Charline Mary, glavna autorica članka.

Oralno područje je drugi po važnosti mikrobiom u ljudskom tijelu nakon crijeva, s kojim je usko povezan. U ustima, spojni epitel je dio desni koji zatvara tkiva koja podupiru zube i štiti ih od agresivnog okruženja u ustima. Ukratko, njegova je uloga da desni dobro prianjaju uz zub i tako ograničavaju prolaz bakterijama između dviju struktura.

'Zubi su jedino mjesto gdje je integralna ovojnica ljudskog tijela penetrirana, pa su ključno mjesto za ulazak bakterija', objasnio je Nanci.

'Kao što znamo već nekoliko godina, oralna infekcija bakterijom P. gingivalis jedan je od glavnih čimbenika rizika za razvoj Alzheimerove bolesti. Dakle, budući da SCPPPQ1 može usporiti razvoj ove bakterije, pa čak je i uništiti, možemo napasti uzrok problema na samom izvoru i pomoći spriječiti razvoj nekoliko bolesti.'

Sljedeća faza studije trebala bi detaljnije istražiti mogućnost SCPPPQ1 proteina da spriječi parodontozu - na primjer ako se doda u zubnu pastu - i procijeniti njegovu sposobnost da uništi bakterije koje su već prodrle u strukturu između zubnog mesa i zuba.

'Ovo je početak uzbudljive, obećavajuće avanture koja stomatologiju vraća na prvu crtu obrane cjelokupnog zdravlja', rekla je Nanci.

Nedavna studija pokazala je da protein prisutan u gingivalnom epitelu (dio desni koji okružuje zube) može imati antimikrobna svojstva, naročito protiv bakterije Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis). Osim što igra značajnu ulogu u razvoju parodontoze, ova bakterija također može biti povezana s neurodegenerativnim bolestima kao što je Alzheimerova bolest.

Otkrića studije koju su vodili Antonio Nanci, profesor na Odsjeku stomatologije na Sveučilištu u Montrealu, i postdoktorandica Charline Mary, u suradnji s kolegama sa Sveučilišta Laval i Sveučilišta McGill, nedavno su objavljeni u časopisu Nature Scientific Report.

Studija baca novo svjetlo na sekretorni fosfoprotein koji veže kalcij i koji je bogat prolin-glutaminom (SCPPPQ1), što je protein koji izlučuju stanice spojnog epitela. Nova saznanja sugeriraju da ovaj protein ima antibakterijski potencijal i pokušavaju identificirati njegove aktivne dijelove, prenosi Jutarnji.

Profesor Nanci, koji također vodi katedru za istraživanje kalcificiranih tkiva, biomaterijala i stvaranje slika struktura, kaže kako bi se 'antibakterijski potencijal proteina SCPPPQ1 mogao iskoristiti ne samo za liječenje parodontoze, već i kao način provjere učinaka bakterija na mozak ili na druga mjesta na koja se šire.'

'Ovaj protein mogao bi ponuditi još jednu strategiju za rješavanje problema otpornosti bakterija', rekla je Charline Mary, glavna autorica članka.

Oralno područje je drugi po važnosti mikrobiom u ljudskom tijelu nakon crijeva, s kojim je usko povezan. U ustima, spojni epitel je dio desni koji zatvara tkiva koja podupiru zube i štiti ih od agresivnog okruženja u ustima. Ukratko, njegova je uloga da desni dobro prianjaju uz zub i tako ograničavaju prolaz bakterijama između dviju struktura.

'Zubi su jedino mjesto gdje je integralna ovojnica ljudskog tijela penetrirana, pa su ključno mjesto za ulazak bakterija', objasnio je Nanci.

'Kao što znamo već nekoliko godina, oralna infekcija bakterijom P. gingivalis jedan je od glavnih čimbenika rizika za razvoj Alzheimerove bolesti. Dakle, budući da SCPPPQ1 može usporiti razvoj ove bakterije, pa čak je i uništiti, možemo napasti uzrok problema na samom izvoru i pomoći spriječiti razvoj nekoliko bolesti.'

Sljedeća faza studije trebala bi detaljnije istražiti mogućnost SCPPPQ1 proteina da spriječi parodontozu - na primjer ako se doda u zubnu pastu - i procijeniti njegovu sposobnost da uništi bakterije koje su već prodrle u strukturu između zubnog mesa i zuba.

Nedavna studija pokazala je da protein prisutan u gingivalnom epitelu (dio desni koji okružuje zube) može imati antimikrobna svojstva, naročito protiv bakterije Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis). Osim što igra značajnu ulogu u razvoju parodontoze, ova bakterija također može biti povezana s neurodegenerativnim bolestima kao što je Alzheimerova bolest.

Otkrića studije koju su vodili Antonio Nanci, profesor na Odsjeku stomatologije na Sveučilištu u Montrealu, i postdoktorandica Charline Mary, u suradnji s kolegama sa Sveučilišta Laval i Sveučilišta McGill, nedavno su objavljeni u časopisu Nature Scientific Report.
