Američki glumac
Richard Gere, koji se već 25 godina zalaže za rješenje tibetanskog pitanja, u subotu je pozvao na bojkot Olimpijskih igara u Pekingu, ako kineske vlasti ne budu "na odgovarajući način" reagirale na sukobe
prosvjednika i snaga reda koji vladaju u raznim regijama Tibeta već nekoliko dana.
- Ako kineske vlasti ne budu reagirale na prikladan način, ako ne izmijene ponašanje, ako ne priznaju što se ondje zapravo događa, ako ne omoguće slobodan pristup sredstvima komunikacije, mislim da bismo svakako trebali bojkotirati Olimpijske igre u Pekingu - rekao je za BBC 58-godišnji glumac.
- Bilo bi nerazumno nastaviti živjeti kao da se ništa ne događa i kao da smo svi sretni i zadovoljni. Mislim da je to nemoguće - rekao je.
Antikineski prosvjedi u Lhasi, najkrvaviji od 1989., poklapaju se sa 49. obljetnicom pobune u Lhasi nakon koje je iz te regije prognan Dalaj-lama. Tibetanska vlada u egzilu objavila je nepotvrđene informacije prema kojima je u silovitim sukobima koji su Lhasi izbili u petak, poginulo oko stotinu ljudi.
Gere je objasnio kako do sada nije pozivao na bojkotiranje Olimpijskih igara, nadajući se da će upravo one omogućiti "slobodniju razmjenu komunikacija, preko sporta i razonode". "No i sami vidite da su ljudi ondje potlačeni, da su na rubu istrebljenja i da im ne preostaje ništa drugo nego se pobuniti. U zadnje se vrijeme Tibetanci jako marginaliziraju, puno više nego ranije", rekao je među ostalim Gere, blizak prijatelj Dalaj-lame.

Američki glumac
Richard Gere, koji se već 25 godina zalaže za rješenje tibetanskog pitanja, u subotu je pozvao na bojkot Olimpijskih igara u Pekingu, ako kineske vlasti ne budu "na odgovarajući način" reagirale na sukobe
prosvjednika i snaga reda koji vladaju u raznim regijama Tibeta već nekoliko dana.
- Ako kineske vlasti ne budu reagirale na prikladan način, ako ne izmijene ponašanje, ako ne priznaju što se ondje zapravo događa, ako ne omoguće slobodan pristup sredstvima komunikacije, mislim da bismo svakako trebali bojkotirati Olimpijske igre u Pekingu - rekao je za BBC 58-godišnji glumac.
- Bilo bi nerazumno nastaviti živjeti kao da se ništa ne događa i kao da smo svi sretni i zadovoljni. Mislim da je to nemoguće - rekao je.
Antikineski prosvjedi u Lhasi, najkrvaviji od 1989., poklapaju se sa 49. obljetnicom pobune u Lhasi nakon koje je iz te regije prognan Dalaj-lama. Tibetanska vlada u egzilu objavila je nepotvrđene informacije prema kojima je u silovitim sukobima koji su Lhasi izbili u petak, poginulo oko stotinu ljudi.
Gere je objasnio kako do sada nije pozivao na bojkotiranje Olimpijskih igara, nadajući se da će upravo one omogućiti "slobodniju razmjenu komunikacija, preko sporta i razonode". "No i sami vidite da su ljudi ondje potlačeni, da su na rubu istrebljenja i da im ne preostaje ništa drugo nego se pobuniti. U zadnje se vrijeme Tibetanci jako marginaliziraju, puno više nego ranije", rekao je među ostalim Gere, blizak prijatelj Dalaj-lame.
