Olimpijskoj pobjednici u maratonu iz Rija 2016. i prvoj kenijskoj atletičarki sa zlatom u ovoj disciplini, 32-godišnjoj Jemimi Sumgong, izrečena je četverogodišnja zabrana nastupa, zbog pozitivnog nalaza na zabranjeni krvni stimulans eritropoietin (EPO), objavila je agencija Reuters pozivajući se na službene izvore iz Kenijske antidopinške agencije (ADAK).

Sumgong je testirana u travnju, izvan natjecanja, nekoliko dana prije nego što je trebala braniti naslov pobjednice londonskog maratona. 

Atletičarka nije zatražila testiranje B uzorka, Kenijska antidopinška agencija je u svojoj odluci o četverogodišnjoj zabrani navela kako se radi o "nesretnom prijestupu i nenamjernoj pogrešci".

Slučaj je dospio do Suda za sportsku arbitražu na kojem je Sumgong tvrdila da je pozitivan nalaz posljedica tretmana u jednoj kenijskoj bolnici, gdje je liječena zbog slučaja izvanmaterične trudnoće. No, njezina je tvrdnja odbačena kao neosnovana, nakon što je iz spomenuta bolnice priopćeno da maratonka nikada kod njih nije liječena.

Sumgong je druga kenijska maratonka u posljednje tri godine koja je bila pozitivna na EPO. Zbog istog je stimulansa bivša pobjednica bostonskog i čikaškog maratona Rita Jeptoo, 2014. kažnjena četverogodišnjom zabranom nastupa.

U posljednjih pet godina oko 40 kenijskih atletičara i atletičarki bilo je pozitivno na dopinškim kontrolama.

Olimpijskoj pobjednici u maratonu iz Rija 2016. i prvoj kenijskoj atletičarki sa zlatom u ovoj disciplini, 32-godišnjoj Jemimi Sumgong, izrečena je četverogodišnja zabrana nastupa, zbog pozitivnog nalaza na zabranjeni krvni stimulans eritropoietin (EPO), objavila je agencija Reuters pozivajući se na službene izvore iz Kenijske antidopinške agencije (ADAK).

Sumgong je testirana u travnju, izvan natjecanja, nekoliko dana prije nego što je trebala braniti naslov pobjednice londonskog maratona. 

Atletičarka nije zatražila testiranje B uzorka, Kenijska antidopinška agencija je u svojoj odluci o četverogodišnjoj zabrani navela kako se radi o "nesretnom prijestupu i nenamjernoj pogrešci".

Slučaj je dospio do Suda za sportsku arbitražu na kojem je Sumgong tvrdila da je pozitivan nalaz posljedica tretmana u jednoj kenijskoj bolnici, gdje je liječena zbog slučaja izvanmaterične trudnoće. No, njezina je tvrdnja odbačena kao neosnovana, nakon što je iz spomenuta bolnice priopćeno da maratonka nikada kod njih nije liječena.

Sumgong je druga kenijska maratonka u posljednje tri godine koja je bila pozitivna na EPO. Zbog istog je stimulansa bivša pobjednica bostonskog i čikaškog maratona Rita Jeptoo, 2014. kažnjena četverogodišnjom zabranom nastupa.

U posljednjih pet godina oko 40 kenijskih atletičara i atletičarki bilo je pozitivno na dopinškim kontrolama.
