Damir Škaro, proglašen je krivim zbog spolnog uznemiravanja i silovanja bivše zaposlenice AK Siget. Osudilo ga se na kaznu od dvije godine i šest mjeseci zatvora, a morat će platiti i 3787 eura troškova suda i vještačenja.

Škaro je bivši boksaš i vlasnik brončane olimpijske medalje iz Seoula 1988. godine, a to mu je ujedno i najveći uspjeh karijere, ali ne i jedini. Rođen je u Zagrebu, gdje i započeo sportsku karijeru, a na prvenstvu Balkana je 1977. godine u Ateni u dresu kluba "Trešnjevka" došao do zlatne medalje u juniorskoj konkurenciji polusrednje kategorije.

Nakon tih uspjeha u mlađim danima, počinje nastupati za državnu reprezentaciju, a uskoro i mijenja klub. Kreće se natjecati za vukovarski "Borovo" za koji je 1980. godine osvojio naslov prvaka države. Iste te godine plasirao se na svoje prve Olimpijske igre koje su se održale u Moskvi. Međutim, u prvom kolu ga je eliminirao Viktor Savčenko, koji je tada na domaćem terenu osvojio zlatnu medalju. Nakon toga se Škaro okrunio zlatom dva puta na prvenstvima Balkana 1983. i 1984. godine. Zatim, na svojim drugim Olimpijskim igrama 1984. godine u Los Angelesu u četvrtfinalu ga je porazio Virgil Hill, opet domaćin koji će kasnije postati prvak.

U idućim godinama do sljedećih Olimpijskih igara, ostvario je brojne rezultate. Prvo je 1986. godine na Svjetskom prvenstvu u Renou (SAD) osvojio brončanu medalju, a onda se godinu kasnije u Siriji okitio laskavim naslovom prvaka Mediterana. Ključna godina u njegovoj karijeri bila je 1988., a prije Seoula je u Beogradu, kući sa Svjetskog kupa odnio srebrnu medalju. 

Već spomenuti vrhunac karijere dogodio se u listopadu 1988. godine u Seoulu na Olimpijskim igrama gdje je Škaro završio kao trećeplasirani. U prvom kolu je pobijedio Bugara Deyana Kirilova, u drugom je bio bolji od nigerijskog borca Osmonda Imadiyia, a i borba u četvrtfinalu je bila uspješna. Svladao je Kenijca Josepha Mukukua Akhasambu. Zatim ga je u polufinalu zaustavio ruski predstavnik Shanavazov, ali hrvatski boksač tada pod zastavom Jugoslavije je u teškoj borbi za brončanu medalju bio uspješniji od Poljaka Henryka Petricha.

Zanimljivo je kako je tog istog dana kada je Škaro osvojio broncu na Olimpijadi u Seoulu, diskvalificiran Ben Johnson. Kanadski atletičar je tada postavio novi svjetski rekord na 100 metara s rezultatom 9.79, a onda se otkrilo kako je uzimao doping. Tako je Johnson bio prvak i rekorder samo 72 sata, a nakon što se utvrdilo da je koristio nedopuštene supstance, zlato je dodijeljeno drugoplasiranom Carlu Lewisu.

Međutim, vratimo se na sportsku priču o Škari koji je nakon te olimpijske medalje, na vrhuncu sportske snage, napustio boksački ring i karijeru. Nakon njegove medalje, idući Hrvat koji se okitio odličjem na Olimpijskim igrama u boksu bio je Filip Hrgović koji je 2016. godine u Rio de Janeiru također osvojio broncu. 

Škaro je osim bogate sportske karijere, proveo dane i u politici. Bio je zastupnik Hrvatskog sabora od 1995. do 2000. godine.

Damir Škaro, proglašen je krivim zbog spolnog uznemiravanja i silovanja bivše zaposlenice AK Siget. Osudilo ga se na kaznu od dvije godine i šest mjeseci zatvora, a morat će platiti i 3787 eura troškova suda i vještačenja.

Škaro je bivši boksaš i vlasnik brončane olimpijske medalje iz Seoula 1988. godine, a to mu je ujedno i najveći uspjeh karijere, ali ne i jedini. Rođen je u Zagrebu, gdje i započeo sportsku karijeru, a na prvenstvu Balkana je 1977. godine u Ateni u dresu kluba "Trešnjevka" došao do zlatne medalje u juniorskoj konkurenciji polusrednje kategorije.

Nakon tih uspjeha u mlađim danima, počinje nastupati za državnu reprezentaciju, a uskoro i mijenja klub. Kreće se natjecati za vukovarski "Borovo" za koji je 1980. godine osvojio naslov prvaka države. Iste te godine plasirao se na svoje prve Olimpijske igre koje su se održale u Moskvi. Međutim, u prvom kolu ga je eliminirao Viktor Savčenko, koji je tada na domaćem terenu osvojio zlatnu medalju. Nakon toga se Škaro okrunio zlatom dva puta na prvenstvima Balkana 1983. i 1984. godine. Zatim, na svojim drugim Olimpijskim igrama 1984. godine u Los Angelesu u četvrtfinalu ga je porazio Virgil Hill, opet domaćin koji će kasnije postati prvak.

U idućim godinama do sljedećih Olimpijskih igara, ostvario je brojne rezultate. Prvo je 1986. godine na Svjetskom prvenstvu u Renou (SAD) osvojio brončanu medalju, a onda se godinu kasnije u Siriji okitio laskavim naslovom prvaka Mediterana. Ključna godina u njegovoj karijeri bila je 1988., a prije Seoula je u Beogradu, kući sa Svjetskog kupa odnio srebrnu medalju. 

Već spomenuti vrhunac karijere dogodio se u listopadu 1988. godine u Seoulu na Olimpijskim igrama gdje je Škaro završio kao trećeplasirani. U prvom kolu je pobijedio Bugara Deyana Kirilova, u drugom je bio bolji od nigerijskog borca Osmonda Imadiyia, a i borba u četvrtfinalu je bila uspješna. Svladao je Kenijca Josepha Mukukua Akhasambu. Zatim ga je u polufinalu zaustavio ruski predstavnik Shanavazov, ali hrvatski boksač tada pod zastavom Jugoslavije je u teškoj borbi za brončanu medalju bio uspješniji od Poljaka Henryka Petricha.

Zanimljivo je kako je tog istog dana kada je Škaro osvojio broncu na Olimpijadi u Seoulu, diskvalificiran Ben Johnson. Kanadski atletičar je tada postavio novi svjetski rekord na 100 metara s rezultatom 9.79, a onda se otkrilo kako je uzimao doping. Tako je Johnson bio prvak i rekorder samo 72 sata, a nakon što se utvrdilo da je koristio nedopuštene supstance, zlato je dodijeljeno drugoplasiranom Carlu Lewisu.

Međutim, vratimo se na sportsku priču o Škari koji je nakon te olimpijske medalje, na vrhuncu sportske snage, napustio boksački ring i karijeru. Nakon njegove medalje, idući Hrvat koji se okitio odličjem na Olimpijskim igrama u boksu bio je Filip Hrgović koji je 2016. godine u Rio de Janeiru također osvojio broncu. 

Škaro je osim bogate sportske karijere, proveo dane i u politici. Bio je zastupnik Hrvatskog sabora od 1995. do 2000. godine.
