Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro i Tokio natjecali su se tri tjedna u Pekingu u utrci kojoj nagrada nije medalja nego imenovanje grada domaćina Olimpijskih igara 2016. godine.
To se natjecanje odvijalo u hotelskim hodnicima, na obilnim večerama i u luksuznim sobama jer je borba za domaćina OI jako skupa.
Madrid nije uspio ostvariti sve napore kako je htio, dok je Rio de Janeiro povećao svoje izglede.
Skupi Beijing Hotel, gdje su odsjeli dužnosnici Međunarodnog olimpijskog odbora (MOO) izgledao je kao tržnica koja se priprema za glasovanje o domaćinu OI 2016.
- Ne možete izbjeći nekog člana MOO. Svaki od njih je potenacijalni glas - izjavio je potpredsjednik Američkog olimpijskog odbora Robert Ctvrtlik.
MOO ima 115 članova, ali predsjednik Jacques Rogge ne glasuje tako da zapravo 114 dužnosnika odlučuje. Svi su oni različiti, a kod nekih je teško odrediti koja ih logika navodi da se odluče za nekog od kandidata.
Kako se približava 2. listopada 2009. - datum kada će MOO odlučiti o kandidatu - svi su se kandidati složili oko toga da ne treba gledati da se dostigne razina Pekinga.
Gradonačelnik Chicaga Richard Daly je izjavio kako nitko ne može organizirati Igre kakve je organizirao Peking. A s njim se složio i gradonačelnik Rija Carlos Roberto Osorio.
Izgledi za pobjedu u svakom slučaju skrivaju se u malim pojedinostima. A upravo je u tome Madrid pao. Promotivna fotografija na kojoj španjolski košarkaši imitiraju Kineze tako da su razvukli svoje oči, unatoč namjeri da bude prijateljska gesta, izazvala je lavinu kritika.
Rio se zauzvrat predstavio sa "Casa Brasil", prostorom u kojem se posjetitelj može osjećati kao da se stvarno nalazi u tom prekrasnom gradu. Rio je za svog veleposlanika postavio legendarnog nogometaša Pelea. Čak je i Rogge priznao da Rio ima još jednu prednost: domaćinstvo svjetskog nogometnog prvenstva 2014.
Tokio se pak trudi mudro definirati svoj projekt.
- Radimo na tome da optimiziramo našu kandidaturu - kazao je gradonačelnik Tokija Ichiro Kono.
Chicago, koji planira Igre na svom terenu financirati iz privatnog sektora ima košarkašku legendu Michaela Jordana i predsjedničkog kandidata Baracka Obamu za svoje simbole.
Obama je već rekao da je spreman doći u Kopenhagen kako bi podržao svoj rodni grad.
Peking 2008. se približava kraju, a četiri kandidata se vraćaju kući. Imaju još puno posla ali do 12. siječnja iduće godine moraju predstaviti svoje konačne projekte.

Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro i Tokio natjecali su se tri tjedna u Pekingu u utrci kojoj nagrada nije medalja nego imenovanje grada domaćina Olimpijskih igara 2016. godine.
To se natjecanje odvijalo u hotelskim hodnicima, na obilnim večerama i u luksuznim sobama jer je borba za domaćina OI jako skupa.
Madrid nije uspio ostvariti sve napore kako je htio, dok je Rio de Janeiro povećao svoje izglede.
Skupi Beijing Hotel, gdje su odsjeli dužnosnici Međunarodnog olimpijskog odbora (MOO) izgledao je kao tržnica koja se priprema za glasovanje o domaćinu OI 2016.
- Ne možete izbjeći nekog člana MOO. Svaki od njih je potenacijalni glas - izjavio je potpredsjednik Američkog olimpijskog odbora Robert Ctvrtlik.
MOO ima 115 članova, ali predsjednik Jacques Rogge ne glasuje tako da zapravo 114 dužnosnika odlučuje. Svi su oni različiti, a kod nekih je teško odrediti koja ih logika navodi da se odluče za nekog od kandidata.
Kako se približava 2. listopada 2009. - datum kada će MOO odlučiti o kandidatu - svi su se kandidati složili oko toga da ne treba gledati da se dostigne razina Pekinga.
Gradonačelnik Chicaga Richard Daly je izjavio kako nitko ne može organizirati Igre kakve je organizirao Peking. A s njim se složio i gradonačelnik Rija Carlos Roberto Osorio.
Izgledi za pobjedu u svakom slučaju skrivaju se u malim pojedinostima. A upravo je u tome Madrid pao. Promotivna fotografija na kojoj španjolski košarkaši imitiraju Kineze tako da su razvukli svoje oči, unatoč namjeri da bude prijateljska gesta, izazvala je lavinu kritika.
Rio se zauzvrat predstavio sa "Casa Brasil", prostorom u kojem se posjetitelj može osjećati kao da se stvarno nalazi u tom prekrasnom gradu. Rio je za svog veleposlanika postavio legendarnog nogometaša Pelea. Čak je i Rogge priznao da Rio ima još jednu prednost: domaćinstvo svjetskog nogometnog prvenstva 2014.
Tokio se pak trudi mudro definirati svoj projekt.
- Radimo na tome da optimiziramo našu kandidaturu - kazao je gradonačelnik Tokija Ichiro Kono.
Chicago, koji planira Igre na svom terenu financirati iz privatnog sektora ima košarkašku legendu Michaela Jordana i predsjedničkog kandidata Baracka Obamu za svoje simbole.
Obama je već rekao da je spreman doći u Kopenhagen kako bi podržao svoj rodni grad.
Peking 2008. se približava kraju, a četiri kandidata se vraćaju kući. Imaju još puno posla ali do 12. siječnja iduće godine moraju predstaviti svoje konačne projekte.
