Ivan Rakitić na pragu je odlaska u saudijski Al Shabab. Pregovori su, kako navodi Fabrizio Romano, u naprednim fazama, a sam Rakitić inzistira na transferu te već dogovara detalje oko ugovora. Španjolska Marca navodi i da se Rakitić već oprostio od suigrača i klupskih djelatnika, pišu Sportske novosti.

Bivši hrvatski reprezentativac u dresu Seville ove je sezone nastupio u 27 utakmica u svim natjecanjima, upisavši pritom dva pogotka i četiri asistencije. Ipak, u posljednje vrijeme pao je u drugi plan trenera Sáncheza Floresa, stoga nerijetko biva izostavljen iz prve postave te ulazi s klupe.

Očekivalo se da će bivši Vatreni završiti karijeru u dresu voljenog španjolskog kluba, no čini se da su nedostatak minuta, ali naravno i izazovni saudijski novci utjecali na Rakitića te će on drugi puta u karijeri napustiti Andaluziju. Ovim transferom, 35-godišnji Rakitić bi se u Saudijskoj Arabiji pridružio Marcelu Brozoviću (Al Nassr) i Domagoju Antoliću (Damac).

Al Shabab je trenutno na tek 11. mjestu saudijske Premier lige. Momčad je do prije mjesec dana trenirao Igor Bišćan, no zbog neuvjerljivih rezultata dobio je otkaz. Momčad predvodi bivša zvijezda Atletico Madrida Yannick Carrasco i marokanski reprezentativac Romain Saiss.

Rakitić je u karijeri, osim za Sevillu, igrao i za Barcelonu, Schalke te švicarski Basel. Za hrvatsku reprezentaciju debitirao je 2008. u kvalifikacijskoj utakmici protiv Estonije, a od tada je upisao 106 nastupa i 15 golova. U rujnu 2020. oprostio se od najdražeg dresa, ostavivši prostor za mlađe igrače.
