Najbolji svjetski teniski par u 2021., hrvatski reprezentativci Nikola Mektić i Mate Pavić postali su pobjednicima Miami Opena, nakon što su u subotnjem finalu nadigrali Britance Daniela Evansa i Neala Skupskog sa 6-4, 6-4 za 75 minuta.

Mektiću i Paviću je ovo bilo peto zajedničko finale, prvo na turniru Masters 1000 serije u kojem su došli do četvrtog naslova u ovoj sezoni. Ujedno su postali prvi Hrvati koji se mogu pohvaliti naslovom u paru na Miami Openu, a do njega su došli na uvjerljiv način, bez izgubljenog seta.

Početak finala nije im išao na ruku, jer je u petom gemu britanska kombinacija došla do 'breaka' kad je na odlučujućem poenu Pavić napravio dvostruku pogrešku. No, već u sljedećem gemu se iskupio nizom odličnih reterna kojima je slomljen servis Dana Evansa za izjednačenje na 3-3. Do kraja seta Mektić i Pavić su dominirali, imali dvije prilike za 'break' u osmom gemu, a ponovno su slomili Evansov servis u desetom gemu i iskoristili prvu set-loptu.

U drugom setu prilika za 'break' nije bilo sve do desetog gema, u kojem su Nikola i Mate ponovno spojili nekoliko sjajnih reterna i iskoristili prvu meč-loptu za njihov najveći zajednički trofej.

"Ovo nam je prvi zajednički Masters 1000 naslov. Puno nam to znači. Meč je bio odličan. Oni su imali su 'break' viška u prvom setu, nije bilo nimalo lako. Zadovoljni smo kako smo odigrali", rekao je Mate Pavić nakon dvoboja koji mu je donio povratak na čelno mjesto ATP ljestvice igrača parova.

"Prvi put sam bio broj jedan desetak tjedana. Nadam se da sad mogu i duže. Prvi smo i na renkingu parova. Zaslužujemo to. Nadam se da možemo nastaviti ovako", prokomentirao je Splićanin povratak na vrh ATP ljestvice.

U 28. ovosezonskom nastupu Mektić i Pavić su stigli do 25. pobjede (25-3) i uvjerljivo su najbolji par u 2021.

"Ne mogu vam otkriti pravu tajnu, ali mogu reći da je zadovoljstvo igrati s ovim dečkom. Odlično se slažemo na terenu i izvan njega", odgovorio je Nikola Mektić na pitanje o tajni uspješnosti drugog hrvatskog para koji je osvojio naslov na Masters 1000 turniru.

Mektić je bio dio i prvog para, kad je s Frankom Škugorom osvojio pobjednički trofej u Monte Carlu prije dvije godine. Upravo je Monte Carlo nova stanica za Nikolu i Matu. 

"Novi veliki turnir. Svaki Masters 1000 je motivacija. Nadam se da ćemo zadržati fokus i nastaviti pobjeđivati", zaključio je 32-godišnji Zagrepčanin.

Mektić i Pavić su za naslov u Miamiju zaradili 1000 bodova, a podijelit će novčanu nagradu od 81.000 američkih dolara.

Najbolji svjetski teniski par u 2021., hrvatski reprezentativci Nikola Mektić i Mate Pavić postali su pobjednicima Miami Opena, nakon što su u subotnjem finalu nadigrali Britance Daniela Evansa i Neala Skupskog sa 6-4, 6-4 za 75 minuta.

Mektiću i Paviću je ovo bilo peto zajedničko finale, prvo na turniru Masters 1000 serije u kojem su došli do četvrtog naslova u ovoj sezoni. Ujedno su postali prvi Hrvati koji se mogu pohvaliti naslovom u paru na Miami Openu, a do njega su došli na uvjerljiv način, bez izgubljenog seta.

Početak finala nije im išao na ruku, jer je u petom gemu britanska kombinacija došla do 'breaka' kad je na odlučujućem poenu Pavić napravio dvostruku pogrešku. No, već u sljedećem gemu se iskupio nizom odličnih reterna kojima je slomljen servis Dana Evansa za izjednačenje na 3-3. Do kraja seta Mektić i Pavić su dominirali, imali dvije prilike za 'break' u osmom gemu, a ponovno su slomili Evansov servis u desetom gemu i iskoristili prvu set-loptu.

U drugom setu prilika za 'break' nije bilo sve do desetog gema, u kojem su Nikola i Mate ponovno spojili nekoliko sjajnih reterna i iskoristili prvu meč-loptu za njihov najveći zajednički trofej.

"Ovo nam je prvi zajednički Masters 1000 naslov. Puno nam to znači. Meč je bio odličan. Oni su imali su 'break' viška u prvom setu, nije bilo nimalo lako. Zadovoljni smo kako smo odigrali", rekao je Mate Pavić nakon dvoboja koji mu je donio povratak na čelno mjesto ATP ljestvice igrača parova.

"Prvi put sam bio broj jedan desetak tjedana. Nadam se da sad mogu i duže. Prvi smo i na renkingu parova. Zaslužujemo to. Nadam se da možemo nastaviti ovako", prokomentirao je Splićanin povratak na vrh ATP ljestvice.

U 28. ovosezonskom nastupu Mektić i Pavić su stigli do 25. pobjede (25-3) i uvjerljivo su najbolji par u 2021.

"Ne mogu vam otkriti pravu tajnu, ali mogu reći da je zadovoljstvo igrati s ovim dečkom. Odlično se slažemo na terenu i izvan njega", odgovorio je Nikola Mektić na pitanje o tajni uspješnosti drugog hrvatskog para koji je osvojio naslov na Masters 1000 turniru.

Mektić je bio dio i prvog para, kad je s Frankom Škugorom osvojio pobjednički trofej u Monte Carlu prije dvije godine. Upravo je Monte Carlo nova stanica za Nikolu i Matu. 

"Novi veliki turnir. Svaki Masters 1000 je motivacija. Nadam se da ćemo zadržati fokus i nastaviti pobjeđivati", zaključio je 32-godišnji Zagrepčanin.

Mektić i Pavić su za naslov u Miamiju zaradili 1000 bodova, a podijelit će novčanu nagradu od 81.000 američkih dolara.

Nikola Mektić i Mate Pavić pobjednici Miami Opena

Najbolji svjetski teniski par u 2021., hrvatski reprezentativci Nikola Mektić i Mate Pavić postali su pobjednicima Miami Opena, nakon što su u subotnjem finalu nadigrali Britance Daniela Evansa i Neala Skupskog sa 6-4, 6-4 za 75 minuta.

Mektiću i Paviću je ovo bilo peto zajedničko finale, prvo na turniru Masters 1000 serije u kojem su došli do četvrtog naslova u ovoj sezoni. Ujedno su postali prvi Hrvati koji se mogu pohvaliti naslovom u paru na Miami Openu, a do njega su došli na uvjerljiv način, bez izgubljenog seta.

Početak finala nije im išao na ruku, jer je u petom gemu britanska kombinacija došla do 'breaka' kad je na odlučujućem poenu Pavić napravio dvostruku pogrešku. No, već u sljedećem gemu se iskupio nizom odličnih reterna kojima je slomljen servis Dana Evansa za izje...
