Prošlogodišnji pobjednik Wimbledona u juniorskoj konkurenciji, jedan od najtalentiranijih mladih tenisača na svijetu, 17-godišnji Kanađanin Denis Šapovalov u ponedjeljak se javno ispričao zbog svog nedjeljnog postupka kada je u odlučujućem petom susretu 1. kola Davis Cupa protiv Velike Britanije diskvalificiran jer je nenamjerno pogodio glavnog suca lopticom u oko.

Šapovalov je pri zaostatku od 0-2 u setovima i 1-2 uz "break" u trećem setu dvoboja protiv Kylea Edmunda frustriran zbog gubitka servisa želio napucati lopticu u gledalište, ali ona je pogodila suca u stolcu Arnauda Gabasa u oko. Gabasu je morala biti pružena liječnička pomoć, a glavni sudac meča Brian Earley je diskvalificirao kanadskog tinejdžera.

"Osjećam se nevjerojatno posramljeno i očajno jer sam iznevjerio svoju momčad, zemlju i zato što sam se ponio onako kako se nikada nisam želio ponijeti. Obećavam kako je ovo posljednji put da sam napravio nešto ovakvo. Iz ove ću situacije izvući pouku i pokušati prijeći preko incidenta", rekao je Šapovalov.

Iz Međunarodnog teniskog saveza (ITF) objavili su kako je bilo jasno da Šapovalov nije namjerno pogodio suca u oko.

"Nakon što je izgubio servis u trećeg gemu trećeg seta, Denis Šapovalov udario je lopticu vrlo jako nenamjerno pogodivši suca u stolcu Arnauda Gabasa u lijevo oko zbog čega mu je bilo potrebno pružiti medicinsku pomoć. Glavni sudac, koji je svjedočio incidentu, odmah je diskvalificirao Šapovalova zbog nesportskog ponašanja. Bilo je jasno kako Šapovalov nije namjeravao pogoditi suca Gabasa", stoji u priopćenju ITF-a.

Diskvalifikacijom Šapovalova Velika Britanije je pobijedila sa 3-2 i plasirala se u četvrtfinale u kojemu će joj suparnik biti Francuska.

Prošlogodišnji pobjednik Wimbledona u juniorskoj konkurenciji, jedan od najtalentiranijih mladih tenisača na svijetu, 17-godišnji Kanađanin Denis Šapovalov u ponedjeljak se javno ispričao zbog svog nedjeljnog postupka kada je u odlučujućem petom susretu 1. kola Davis Cupa protiv Velike Britanije diskvalificiran jer je nenamjerno pogodio glavnog suca lopticom u oko.

Šapovalov je pri zaostatku od 0-2 u setovima i 1-2 uz "break" u trećem setu dvoboja protiv Kylea Edmunda frustriran zbog gubitka servisa želio napucati lopticu u gledalište, ali ona je pogodila suca u stolcu Arnauda Gabasa u oko. Gabasu je morala biti pružena liječnička pomoć, a glavni sudac meča Brian Earley je diskvalificirao kanadskog tinejdžera.

"Osjećam se nevjerojatno posramljeno i očajno jer sam iznevjerio svoju momčad, zemlju i zato što sam se ponio onako kako se nikada nisam želio ponijeti. Obećavam kako je ovo posljednji put da sam napravio nešto ovakvo. Iz ove ću situacije izvući pouku i pokušati prijeći preko incidenta", rekao je Šapovalov.

Iz Međunarodnog teniskog saveza (ITF) objavili su kako je bilo jasno da Šapovalov nije namjerno pogodio suca u oko.

"Nakon što je izgubio servis u trećeg gemu trećeg seta, Denis Šapovalov udario je lopticu vrlo jako nenamjerno pogodivši suca u stolcu Arnauda Gabasa u lijevo oko zbog čega mu je bilo potrebno pružiti medicinsku pomoć. Glavni sudac, koji je svjedočio incidentu, odmah je diskvalificirao Šapovalova zbog nesportskog ponašanja. Bilo je jasno kako Šapovalov nije namjeravao pogoditi suca Gabasa", stoji u priopćenju ITF-a.

Diskvalifikacijom Šapovalova Velika Britanije je pobijedila sa 3-2 i plasirala se u četvrtfinale u kojemu će joj suparnik biti Francuska.
