Šef američke diplomacije Antony Blinken u srijedu putuje u Meksiko kako bi pokušao pronaći rješenja za novi priljev migranata na granici, predmet goruće političke rasprave u Sjedinjenim Državama, javlja AFP.

Ovo rijetko putovanje tijekom praznika dolazi u vrijeme kada republikanski izabrani dužnosnici u Kongresu zahtijevaju sporazum o imigraciji s Bidenovom vladom u zamjenu za njihovu potporu novom paketu pomoći Ukrajini.

Posljednjih tjedana oko 10.000 ljudi dnevno pokušalo je ilegalno prijeći južnu granicu Sjedinjenih Država, što je gotovo dvostruko više od broja prije pandemije. Karavana tisuća migranata napustila je južni Meksiko u nedjelju kako bi pokušala doći do Sjedinjenih Država.

Preopterećene priljevom, američke su vlasti morale zatvoriti granične prijelaze kako bi se nosile s migrantima koji pokušavaju ilegalno prijeći.

Antony Blinken trebao bi se u srijedu sastati s meksičkim predsjednikom Andresom Manuelom Lopezom Obradorom u Mexico Cityju. U pratnji državnog tajnika bit će ministar domovinske sigurnosti, nadležan posebice za graničnu policiju, Alejandro Mayorkas i savjetnica za domovinsku sigurnost, Liz Sherwood-Randall.

Predsjednik Lopez Obrador, koji je telefonski razgovarao s Joeom Bidenom u četvrtak, 21. prosinca, obećao je pojačati mjere za obuzdavanje migranata na jugu zemlje, na granici s Gvatemalom.

Bivši republikanski predsjednik, koji se priprema suočiti s Joeom Bidenom na biralištima u studenom 2024., nedavno je udvostručio svoje napade na migrante, optužujući ih da "truju krv" Sjedinjenih Država, komentare koji, prema njegovim klevetnicima, čine odjekom nacističke retorike.

U ovom napetom političkom kontekstu, demokrati pokušavaju pronaći dogovor o imigraciji s republikancima u Kongresu kako bi ujedno odobrili trošenje 61 milijarde dolara za pomoć Kijevu u ratu s Moskvom.

Bijela kuća je upozorila da će "do kraja godine ostati bez resursa" za Ukrajinu.

U pregovorima je Bidenova administracija posebice predložila financiranje dodatnih 1300 radnih mjesta unutar granične policije.

Washington će nedvojbeno tražiti od Meksika da i dalje zadrži migrante na svom tlu, primjerice tako što će im dati radne dozvole, procjenjuje Andrew Rudman, istraživač specijaliziran za Meksiko u think tanku Wilson Center u Washingtonu.

“Bidenova administracija nastoji pokazati, iz unutarnjopolitičkih razloga, da čine sve što mogu” po ovom pitanju, objašnjava. Ali "jedan od izazova je to što svi žele trenutačno rješenje globalnog problema koji postoji već dugo", "nema čarobnog štapića".

“Većina tih ljudi emigrira jer su donijeli racionalnu odluku: život će im biti bolji u Sjedinjenim Državama”, dodaje.

Većina njih bježi iz zemalja Srednje Amerike razorenih siromaštvom, nasiljem i prirodnim katastrofama.

Posljednjih mjeseci zabilježen je porast broja migranata s Haitija, razorenog nasiljem bandi, i iz Venezuele, iz koje je prema UN-u pobjeglo više od sedam milijuna ljudi nakon kolapsa njezina gospodarstva.

Šef američke diplomacije Antony Blinken u srijedu putuje u Meksiko kako bi pokušao pronaći rješenja za novi priljev migranata na granici, predmet goruće političke rasprave u Sjedinjenim Državama, javlja AFP.

Ovo rijetko putovanje tijekom praznika dolazi u vrijeme kada republikanski izabrani dužnosnici u Kongresu zahtijevaju sporazum o imigraciji s Bidenovom vladom u zamjenu za njihovu potporu novom paketu pomoći Ukrajini.

Posljednjih tjedana oko 10.000 ljudi dnevno pokušalo je ilegalno prijeći južnu granicu Sjedinjenih Država, što je gotovo dvostruko više od broja prije pandemije. Karavana tisuća migranata napustila je južni Meksiko u nedjelju kako bi pokušala doći do Sjedinjenih Država.

Preopterećene priljevom, američke su vlasti morale zatvoriti granične prijelaze kako bi se nosile s migrantima koji pokušavaju ilegalno prijeći.

Antony Blinken trebao bi se u srijedu sastati s meksičkim predsjednikom Andresom Manuelom Lopezom Obradorom u Mexico Cityju. U pratnji državnog tajnika bit će ministar domovinske sigurnosti, nadležan posebice za graničnu policiju, Alejandro Mayorkas i savjetnica za domovinsku sigurnost, Liz Sherwood-Randall.

Predsjednik Lopez Obrador, koji je telefonski razgovarao s Joeom Bidenom u četvrtak, 21. prosinca, obećao je pojačati mjere za obuzdavanje migranata na jugu zemlje, na granici s Gvatemalom.

Bivši republikanski predsjednik, koji se priprema suočiti s Joeom Bidenom na biralištima u studenom 2024., nedavno je udvostručio svoje napade na migrante, optužujući ih da "truju krv" Sjedinjenih Država, komentare koji, prema njegovim klevetnicima, čine odjekom nacističke retorike.

Bijela kuća je upozorila da će "do kraja godine ostati bez resursa" za Ukrajinu.

U pregovorima je Bidenova administracija posebice predložila financiranje dodatnih 1300 radnih mjesta unutar granične policije.

Washington će nedvojbeno tražiti od Meksika da i dalje zadrži migrante na svom tlu, primjerice tako što će im dati radne dozvole, procjenjuje Andrew Rudman, istraživač specijaliziran za Meksiko u think tanku Wilson Center u Washingtonu.

“Bidenova administracija nastoji pokazati, iz unutarnjopolitičkih razloga, da čine sve što mogu” po ovom pitanju, objašnjava. Ali "jedan od izazova je to što svi žele trenutačno rješenje globalnog problema koji postoji već dugo", "nema čarobnog štapića".

“Većina tih ljudi emigrira jer su donijeli racionalnu odluku: život će im biti bolji u Sjedinjenim Državama”, dodaje.

Većina njih bježi iz zemalja Srednje Amerike razorenih siromaštvom, nasiljem i prirodnim katastrofama.

Posljednjih mjeseci zabilježen je porast broja migranata s Haitija, razorenog nasiljem bandi, i iz Venezuele, iz koje je prema UN-u pobjeglo više od sedam milijuna ljudi nakon kolapsa njezina gospodarstva.

Šef američke diplomacije Antony Blinken u srijedu putuje u Meksiko kako bi pokušao pronaći rješenja za novi priljev migranata na granici, predmet goruće političke rasprave u Sjedinjenim Državama, javlja AFP.

Ovo rijetko putovanje tijekom praznika dolazi u vrijeme kada republikanski izabrani dužnosnici u Kongresu zahtijevaju sporazum o imigraciji s Bidenovom vladom u zamjenu za njihovu potporu novom paketu pomoći Ukrajini.

Posljednjih tjedana oko 10.000 ljudi dnevno pokušalo je ilegalno prijeći južnu granicu Sjedinjenih Država, što je gotovo dvostruko više od broja prije pandemije. Karavana tisuća migranata napustila je južni Meksiko u nedjelju kako bi pokušala doći do Sjedinjenih Država.

Preopterećene priljevom, američke su vlasti morale zatvoriti granične prijelaze kako bi se nosile s migrantima koji pokušavaju ilegalno prijeći.

Antony Blinken trebao bi se u srijedu sastati s meksičkim predsjednikom Andresom Manuelom Lopezom Obradorom u Mexico Cityju. U pratnji državnog tajnika bit će ministar domovinske sigurnosti, nadležan posebice za graničnu policiju, Alejandro Mayorkas i savjetnica za domovinsku sigurnost, Liz Sherwood-Randall.

Predsjednik Lopez Obrador, koji je telefonski razgovarao s Joeom Bidenom u četvrtak, 21. prosinca, obećao je pojačati mjere za obuzdavanje migranata na jugu zemlje, na granici s Gvatemalom.

Bivši republikanski predsjednik, koji se priprema suočiti s Joeom Bidenom na biralištima u studenom 2024., nedavno je udvostručio svoje napade na migrante, optužujući ih da "truju krv" Sjedinjenih Država, komentare koji, prema njegovim klevetnicima, čine odjekom nacističke retorike.
