Iračke snage ponovno su u ponedjeljak pokrenule ofenzivu na džihadiste Islamske države u Starom gradu u središtu Mosula, kazao je jedan zapovjednik.

Oko 400.000 civila opkoljeno je u Starom gradu između džihadista i iračkih snaga potpomognutih međunarodnom koalicijom prevođenom Washingtonom, koje pokušavaju ponovno preuzeti posljednje veliko urbano uporište IS-a u Iraku.

"Savezna policija i Snage za brzo djelovanje ministarstva unutarnjih poslova počele su napredovati danas na jugozapadnom raskršću u Starom gradu", rekao je zapovjednik savezne policije general Raed Šaker Džavdat.
Ulica Faruk smještena blizu džamije Al-Nuri, jedan je od glavnih ciljeva, dodao je on.

Iračke snage bore se na rubu Starog grada već tjednima ali su suočene sa žestokim otporom džihadista optuženih da civile koriste kao ljudski štit.

Prije tri dana privremeno su zaustavile napredovanje zbog velikog broja civilnih žrtava. Stanovnici koji su pobjegli iz opkoljenog područja kazali su da su u iračkim i koalicijskim zračnim napadima srušene mnoge zgrade i da ima puno civilnih žrtava.

Iračka ofenziva na Mosul, sada u šestom mjesecu, oslobodila je većinu grada. Cijeli istočni dio grada i gotovo pola zapadnog pod iračkom je kontrolom.

No napredovanje je u zadnja dva tjedna usporeno jer su se borbe počele voditi u uskim ulicama Staroga grada, gdje se nalazi džamija Al Nuri u kojoj je Abu Bakr al-Bagdadi proglasio kalifat 2014.

Iračke snage ponovno su u ponedjeljak pokrenule ofenzivu na džihadiste Islamske države u Starom gradu u središtu Mosula, kazao je jedan zapovjednik.

Oko 400.000 civila opkoljeno je u Starom gradu između džihadista i iračkih snaga potpomognutih međunarodnom koalicijom prevođenom Washingtonom, koje pokušavaju ponovno preuzeti posljednje veliko urbano uporište IS-a u Iraku.

"Savezna policija i Snage za brzo djelovanje ministarstva unutarnjih poslova počele su napredovati danas na jugozapadnom raskršću u Starom gradu", rekao je zapovjednik savezne policije general Raed Šaker Džavdat.
Ulica Faruk smještena blizu džamije Al-Nuri, jedan je od glavnih ciljeva, dodao je on.

Iračke snage bore se na rubu Starog grada već tjednima ali su suočene sa žestokim otporom džihadista optuženih da civile koriste kao ljudski štit.

Prije tri dana privremeno su zaustavile napredovanje zbog velikog broja civilnih žrtava. Stanovnici koji su pobjegli iz opkoljenog područja kazali su da su u iračkim i koalicijskim zračnim napadima srušene mnoge zgrade i da ima puno civilnih žrtava.

Iračka ofenziva na Mosul, sada u šestom mjesecu, oslobodila je većinu grada. Cijeli istočni dio grada i gotovo pola zapadnog pod iračkom je kontrolom.

No napredovanje je u zadnja dva tjedna usporeno jer su se borbe počele voditi u uskim ulicama Staroga grada, gdje se nalazi džamija Al Nuri u kojoj je Abu Bakr al-Bagdadi proglasio kalifat 2014.
