Američka državna tajnica Condoleezza Rice u petak je doputovala u Tripoli kao prva šefica američke diplomacije koja je posjetila Libiju od 1953., i rekla da je to dokaz da Washington nema "stalnih neprijatelja".
Rice se tijekom njenog kratkog posjeta treba sastati s libijskim čelnikom Muammarom Gaddafijem. Washington se nada da će posjet državne tajnice, do kojeg je došlo pet godina nakon što je Libija odustala od svog programa proizvodnje oružja za masovno uništavanje 2003., okončati desetljeća neprijateljstva i nasilja.
"To pokazuje da SAD nema stalnih neprijatelja", rekla je Rice novinarima tijekom puta u Tripoli.
"To dokazuje da kada su zemlje spremne napraviti strateške promjene pravca da su Sjedinjene Države spremne odgovoriti. Iskreno, nikada nisam mislila da ću posjetiti Libiju tako da je to doista značajno".
"Ovaj je put objavljuje koliko su daleko dospjeli odnosi SAD-a i Libije, ali to je početak, a ne kraj priče", rekla je.
Američka državna tajnica Condoleezza Rice u petak će se u Tripoliju, kao prva šefica američke diplomacije u posljednjih 55 godina, rukovati s libijskim velikim vođom Muammarom Gaddafijem, nekadašnjom "crvenom krpom" američke politike.
Posljednji američki državni tajnik koji je posjetio Libiju bio je John Foster Dulles u svibnju 1953., prije nego što je Rice rođena. Četiri godine kasnije Libiju je posjetio i tadašnji američki potpredsjednik Richard Nixon.
Posjet Rice naftom bogatom Libiji, nekadašnjoj pariji zapadne politike, trebao bi poslati i signal Sjevernoj Koreji i Iranu o tome koje sve koristi bi te zemlje mogle imati ako odustanu od razvijanja oružja za masovno uništenje, smatraju analitičari.
Odnosi između Washingtona i Tripolija, prekinuti 1981. zbog optužbi za terorizam, uspostavljeni su tek 2004., nakon što je Gaddafi najavio da će njegova zemlja prestati s nabavkom oružja za masovno uništenje. Odnosi su dodatno popravljeni nakon što je prošloga mjeseca potpisan dogovor o novčanoj kompenzaciji za žrtve američkog i libijskog bombardiranja.
Condoleezza Rice s Gaddafijem će podijeliti iftar, obrok kojim se navečer prekida post tijekom svetog muslimanskog mjeseca ramazana. Rice će sa svojim domaćinom razgovarati o pitanjima ljudskih prava kao i regionalnim sukobima u Čadu, Sudanu i nedavnom udaru u Mauritaniji.
Na dnevnom redu sigurno će se naći i energetska pitanja, budući da Libija ima ogromne zalihe nafte, a do sada su veći pristup libijskoj nafti imale europske tvrtke.
Rice bi tijekom posjeta mogla popisati sporazum o trgovini i ulaganjima, a Washington pregovara i o "vojnom memorandumu o razumijevanju" s Libijom, rekao je State Department.

Američka državna tajnica Condoleezza Rice u petak je doputovala u Tripoli kao prva šefica američke diplomacije koja je posjetila Libiju od 1953., i rekla da je to dokaz da Washington nema "stalnih neprijatelja".
Rice se tijekom njenog kratkog posjeta treba sastati s libijskim čelnikom Muammarom Gaddafijem. Washington se nada da će posjet državne tajnice, do kojeg je došlo pet godina nakon što je Libija odustala od svog programa proizvodnje oružja za masovno uništavanje 2003., okončati desetljeća neprijateljstva i nasilja.
"To pokazuje da SAD nema stalnih neprijatelja", rekla je Rice novinarima tijekom puta u Tripoli.
"To dokazuje da kada su zemlje spremne napraviti strateške promjene pravca da su Sjedinjene Države spremne odgovoriti. Iskreno, nikada nisam mislila da ću posjetiti Libiju tako da je to doista značajno".
"Ovaj je put objavljuje koliko su daleko dospjeli odnosi SAD-a i Libije, ali to je početak, a ne kraj priče", rekla je.
Američka državna tajnica Condoleezza Rice u petak će se u Tripoliju, kao prva šefica američke diplomacije u posljednjih 55 godina, rukovati s libijskim velikim vođom Muammarom Gaddafijem, nekadašnjom "crvenom krpom" američke politike.
Posljednji američki državni tajnik koji je posjetio Libiju bio je John Foster Dulles u svibnju 1953., prije nego što je Rice rođena. Četiri godine kasnije Libiju je posjetio i tadašnji američki potpredsjednik Richard Nixon.
Posjet Rice naftom bogatom Libiji, nekadašnjoj pariji zapadne politike, trebao bi poslati i signal Sjevernoj Koreji i Iranu o tome koje sve koristi bi te zemlje mogle imati ako odustanu od razvijanja oružja za masovno uništenje, smatraju analitičari.
Odnosi između Washingtona i Tripolija, prekinuti 1981. zbog optužbi za terorizam, uspostavljeni su tek 2004., nakon što je Gaddafi najavio da će njegova zemlja prestati s nabavkom oružja za masovno uništenje. Odnosi su dodatno popravljeni nakon što je prošloga mjeseca potpisan dogovor o novčanoj kompenzaciji za žrtve američkog i libijskog bombardiranja.
Condoleezza Rice s Gaddafijem će podijeliti iftar, obrok kojim se navečer prekida post tijekom svetog muslimanskog mjeseca ramazana. Rice će sa svojim domaćinom razgovarati o pitanjima ljudskih prava kao i regionalnim sukobima u Čadu, Sudanu i nedavnom udaru u Mauritaniji.
Na dnevnom redu sigurno će se naći i energetska pitanja, budući da Libija ima ogromne zalihe nafte, a do sada su veći pristup libijskoj nafti imale europske tvrtke.
Rice bi tijekom posjeta mogla popisati sporazum o trgovini i ulaganjima, a Washington pregovara i o "vojnom memorandumu o razumijevanju" s Libijom, rekao je State Department.
