Kad se covid-19 počeo širiti svijetom, profesor Gregory Gray s Instituta za globalno zdravlje sveučilišta Duke zadužio je svojeg doktoranda da u laboratoriju razvije test na koronavirus koji će obuhvatiti sve vrste i tako pridonijeti suzbijanju iduće pandemije.

Zamisao je bila da se alat, kad njegova točnost bude verificirana, koristi za pretraživanje uzoraka ljudskih testova na koronavirus kako bi se otkrili znakovi ove vrste virusa koji su možda potekli od životinja. 

Gray i njegovi kolege ustanovili su da je pseći koronavirus bio prisutan u skupini djece primljene u malezijske bolnice zbog upale pluća još 2017. i 2018. godine. 

Stručnjaci s Dukea smatraju da je njihovu bolest prouzročio virus koji je na njih prešao s pasa, premda to nisu uspjeli definitivno dokazati. 

No s obzirom na njegov genski sastav, malo je vjerojatno da taj pseći koronavirus trenutačno cirkulira među ljudima.

"Mi zagovaramo širu primjenu testova koji obuhvaćaju sve vrste da bismo pronašli pet različitih virusnih porodica koje su, po našem mišljenju najproblematičnije za širenje epidemije među ljudima", rekao je Gray AFP-u. 

"Ključna je poruka da se ovakve stvari vjerojatno događaju posvuda u svijetu, dakle, gdje god su ljudi u intenzivnom i čestom kontaktu sa žvotinjama, no mi ih sve ne uspijevamo detektirati. Smatram da bismo takve pojave trebali proučavati, jer, uspijemo li ih otkriti dovoljno rano i ustanoviti na koji način ti virusi uspješno koriste čovjeka kao domaćina, moći ćemo ih eliminirati i prije nego što postanu pandemijski", smatra epidemiolog Gray. 

Koronaviruse se tijekom godina premalo proučavalo jer ih se uglavnom povezivalo s običnim prehladama, no to se promijenilo nakon epidemija SARS-a i MERS-a 2002. i 2012 koji su s cibetki i deva prešli na ljude. 

Brojni znanstvenici vjeruju da je SARS-CoV-2, virus koji uzrokuje covid, također životinjskog porijekla. I premda još uvijek postoji niz nepoznanica, činjenica da je otkriven novi koronavirus koji je u stanju prijeći sa životinje na ljude, zabrinjava znanstvenike.
Gray je od kineskog doktoranda Lishana Xiua zatražio da razvije sveobuhvatan test na koronavirus, što je njemu uspjelo. Otkrio je gdje se preklapaju genske sekvence različitih članova obitelji koronavirusa. 

Žigica pandemije

To su oruđe koristili za proučavanje testova oboljelih od upale pluća u bolnici u Sarawaku u Maleziji. U osam od 301 uzorka otkrili su pseći koronavirus. 

Pošto je otkriće bilo iznenađujuće, zatražili su potvrdu jedne od najpoznatijih američkih virologinja Anastasije Vlasove sa Sveučilišta Ohio, koja je uspjela uzgojiti više takvih virusa i sekvencionirati njihov cjelokupan genom. 

Utvrđeno je da je virus, kojeg su nazvali CCoV-HuPn-2018, uglavnom psećeg porijekla, no imao je i mačje i svinjske komponente. 

Otkrivene su i mutacije koje se mogu prilagoditi prijenosu među ljudima, ali nije poznato koliko bi ta evolucija mogla trajati. Možda desetljećima, no možda je uopće ne bude, kazao je Gray. 

Svi pacijenti iz Sarawaka uspješno su se oporavili od upale pluća.  "No čim vas netko primi u bolnicu zbog upale pluća, znači da je riječ o težem obliku bolesti", rekao je Gray. 

Činjenica da je pseći virus otkriven već i u maloj pilotskoj studiji ukazuje na to da bi u podlozi svega mogao postojati veći problem. 

"Čini se kao da propuštamo veliku priliku. Kad bismo uspostavili nadzor nad radnicima u svinjogojstvu, peradarstvu i stočarstvu, moglo bi nas iznenaditi s čim se sve njihov imunosni sustav borio", rekao je. 

Ističe kako "to ne znači da će oni biti žigica koja će 'upaliti' iduću pandemiju", no ističe da bi ta skupina "bila izvrstan izvor istraživanja", zaključio je. 

Virologinja Vlasova je kazala da znanstvenici "u ovom trenutku ne smatraju kako postoji mogućnost da ovaj virus prouzroči novu pandemiju", ali žele "privući pozornost na istraživanje prijenosa koronavirusa sa životinja na ljude jer je to vrlo često, a dosad se tomu nije pridavalo previše pozornosti."

Rezultati studije objavljeni su u stručnome časopisu Clinical Infectious Diseases.

Kad se covid-19 počeo širiti svijetom, profesor Gregory Gray s Instituta za globalno zdravlje sveučilišta Duke zadužio je svojeg doktoranda da u laboratoriju razvije test na koronavirus koji će obuhvatiti sve vrste i tako pridonijeti suzbijanju iduće pandemije.

Zamisao je bila da se alat, kad njegova točnost bude verificirana, koristi za pretraživanje uzoraka ljudskih testova na koronavirus kako bi se otkrili znakovi ove vrste virusa koji su možda potekli od životinja. 

Gray i njegovi kolege ustanovili su da je pseći koronavirus bio prisutan u skupini djece primljene u malezijske bolnice zbog upale pluća još 2017. i 2018. godine. 

Stručnjaci s Dukea smatraju da je njihovu bolest prouzročio virus koji je na njih prešao s pasa, premda to nisu uspjeli definitivno dokazati. 

No s obzirom na njegov genski sastav, malo je vjerojatno da taj pseći koronavirus trenutačno cirkulira među ljudima.

"Mi zagovaramo širu primjenu testova koji obuhvaćaju sve vrste da bismo pronašli pet različitih virusnih porodica koje su, po našem mišljenju najproblematičnije za širenje epidemije među ljudima", rekao je Gray AFP-u. 

"Ključna je poruka da se ovakve stvari vjerojatno događaju posvuda u svijetu, dakle, gdje god su ljudi u intenzivnom i čestom kontaktu sa žvotinjama, no mi ih sve ne uspijevamo detektirati. Smatram da bismo takve pojave trebali proučavati, jer, uspijemo li ih otkriti dovoljno rano i ustanoviti na koji način ti virusi uspješno koriste čovjeka kao domaćina, moći ćemo ih eliminirati i prije nego što postanu pandemijski", smatra epidemiolog Gray. 

Koronaviruse se tijekom godina premalo proučavalo jer ih se uglavnom povezivalo s običnim prehladama, no to se promijenilo nakon epidemija SARS-a i MERS-a 2002. i 2012 koji su s cibetki i deva prešli na ljude. 

Brojni znanstvenici vjeruju da je SARS-CoV-2, virus koji uzrokuje covid, također životinjskog porijekla. I premda još uvijek postoji niz nepoznanica, činjenica da je otkriven novi koronavirus koji je u stanju prijeći sa životinje na ljude, zabrinjava znanstvenike.
Gray je od kineskog doktoranda Lishana Xiua zatražio da razvije sveobuhvatan test na koronavirus, što je njemu uspjelo. Otkrio je gdje se preklapaju genske sekvence različitih članova obitelji koronavirusa. 

Žigica pandemije

To su oruđe koristili za proučavanje testova oboljelih od upale pluća u bolnici u Sarawaku u Maleziji. U osam od 301 uzorka otkrili su pseći koronavirus. 

Pošto je otkriće bilo iznenađujuće, zatražili su potvrdu jedne od najpoznatijih američkih virologinja Anastasije Vlasove sa Sveučilišta Ohio, koja je uspjela uzgojiti više takvih virusa i sekvencionirati njihov cjelokupan genom. 

Utvrđeno je da je virus, kojeg su nazvali CCoV-HuPn-2018, uglavnom psećeg porijekla, no imao je i mačje i svinjske komponente. 

Otkrivene su i mutacije koje se mogu prilagoditi prijenosu među ljudima, ali nije poznato koliko bi ta evolucija mogla trajati. Možda desetljećima, no možda je uopće ne bude, kazao je Gray. 

Svi pacijenti iz Sarawaka uspješno su se oporavili od upale pluća.  "No čim vas netko primi u bolnicu zbog upale pluća, znači da je riječ o težem obliku bolesti", rekao je Gray. 

Činjenica da je pseći virus otkriven već i u maloj pilotskoj studiji ukazuje na to da bi u podlozi svega mogao postojati veći problem. 

"Čini se kao da propuštamo veliku priliku. Kad bismo uspostavili nadzor nad radnicima u svinjogojstvu, peradarstvu i stočarstvu, moglo bi nas iznenaditi s čim se sve njihov imunosni sustav borio", rekao je. 

Ističe kako "to ne znači da će oni biti žigica koja će 'upaliti' iduću pandemiju", no ističe da bi ta skupina "bila izvrstan izvor istraživanja", zaključio je. 

Virologinja Vlasova je kazala da znanstvenici "u ovom trenutku ne smatraju kako postoji mogućnost da ovaj virus prouzroči novu pandemiju", ali žele "privući pozornost na istraživanje prijenosa koronavirusa sa životinja na ljude jer je to vrlo često, a dosad se tomu nije pridavalo previše pozornosti."

Rezultati studije objavljeni su u stručnome časopisu Clinical Infectious Diseases.

Kad se covid-19 počeo širiti svijetom, profesor Gregory Gray s Instituta za globalno zdravlje sveučilišta Duke zadužio je svojeg doktoranda da u laboratoriju razvije test na koronavirus koji će obuhvatiti sve vrste i tako pridonijeti suzbijanju iduće pandemije.

Zamisao je bila da se alat, kad njegova točnost bude verificirana, koristi za pretraživanje uzoraka ljudskih testova na koronavirus kako bi se otkrili znakovi ove vrste virusa koji su možda potekli od životinja. 

Gray i njegovi kolege ustanovili su da je pseći koronavirus bio prisutan u skupini djece primljene u malezijske bolnice zbog upale pluća još 2017. i 2018. godine. 

Stručnjaci s Dukea smatraju da je njihovu bolest prouzročio virus koji je na njih prešao s pasa, premda to nisu uspjeli definitivno dokazati...
