Britanski znanstvenici proučavali su način prehrane plemena Fore iz Papue Nove Gvineje i došli do zaključka da su njihove kanibalske navike utjecale na razvoj genetske otpornosti na kuru bolest, neurološku bolest sličnu "kravljem ludilu". Rezultati ovog istraživanja mogli bi biti od velike važnosti za liječenje Parkinsonove bolesti i demencije, piše National Geographic.

Za bolest kuru čulo se tek kada je liječnik koji je radio u Papui Gvineji primijetio da mnogi pripadnici plemena Fore boluju od misteriozne bolesti. Pacijenti bi prvo izgubili sposobnost hodanja, zatim žvakanja i gutanja, što je dovelo do gubitka težine i smrti. Pripadnici plemena bolest su nazivali kura, što znači drhtanje od straha. Svake godine od ove bolesti umire dva posto ljudi u zajednici.

Pleme Fore poznato je po svojim pogrebnim obredima koji uključuju gozbe na kojima muškarci jedu meso svojih preminulih rođaka, dok žene jedu njihov mozak. Pripadnici plemena na ovaj kult gledaju kao na iskazivanje poštovanja prema svojim voljenima.

Razdoblje inkubacije ovog virusa može trajati i do 50 godina.

Međutim, u mozgu preminulog postoje molekule koje mogu biti smrtonosne ako se pojedu. Dakle, bolest je prenesena na kokoš načinom prehrane, jer se njezine molekule mogu obnavljati i razmnožavati.

Zarazne bolesti je vrlo teško liječiti jer su prioni neuništivi. Sa zabranom kanibalističkih obreda u Novoj Gvineji 1950., kuru bolest počela je jenjavati. No, istražujući ovu bolest znanstvenici su došli do zaključka da je pleme Fore s vremenom kanibalizmom razvilo imunitet na kuru!

Znanstvenici trenutno ispituju neurološke strukture priona koji bi mogli pomoći u liječenju Alzheimerove i Parkinsonove bolesti i drugih sličnih neuroloških bolesti, piše National Geographic.

Britanski znanstvenici proučavali su način prehrane plemena Fore iz Papue Nove Gvineje i došli do zaključka da su njihove kanibalske navike utjecale na razvoj genetske otpornosti na kuru bolest, neurološku bolest sličnu "kravljem ludilu". Rezultati ovog istraživanja mogli bi biti od velike važnosti za liječenje Parkinsonove bolesti i demencije, piše National Geographic.

Za bolest kuru čulo se tek kada je liječnik koji je radio u Papui Gvineji primijetio da mnogi pripadnici plemena Fore boluju od misteriozne bolesti. Pacijenti bi prvo izgubili sposobnost hodanja, zatim žvakanja i gutanja, što je dovelo do gubitka težine i smrti. Pripadnici plemena bolest su nazivali kura, što znači drhtanje od straha. Svake godine od ove bolesti umire dva posto ljudi u zajednici.

Pleme Fore poznato je po svojim pogrebnim obredima koji uključuju gozbe na kojima muškarci jedu meso svojih preminulih rođaka, dok žene jedu njihov mozak. Pripadnici plemena na ovaj kult gledaju kao na iskazivanje poštovanja prema svojim voljenima.

Razdoblje inkubacije ovog virusa može trajati i do 50 godina.

Međutim, u mozgu preminulog postoje molekule koje mogu biti smrtonosne ako se pojedu. Dakle, bolest je prenesena na kokoš načinom prehrane, jer se njezine molekule mogu obnavljati i razmnožavati.
