Znanstvenici Katalin Kariko i Drew Weissman iz Mađarske i Sjedinjenih Država osvojili su Nobelovu nagradu za fiziologiju i medicinu za otkrića koja su omogućila razvoj mRNA cjepiva protiv covida-19, objavio je u ponedjeljak Nobelov odbor.

Nagradu, među najprestižnijima u znanstvenom svijetu, odabrao je Nobelov odbor švedskog medicinskog sveučilišta Karolinska Institute, a uključuje i 11 milijuna švedskih kruna (oko 950 tisuća eura).

"Nobelova nagrada za fiziologiju i medicinu za 2023. dodijeljena je Katalin Kariko i Drewu Weissmanu za njihova otkrića u vezi s modifikacijama nukleozidnih baza koje su omogućile razvoj učinkovitih mRNA cjepiva protiv covida-19", objavio je odbor.

Kariko je bila viša potpredsjednica i voditeljica odjela RNA proteina u BioNTechu do 2022., a od tada djeluje kao savjetnica tvrtke. Također je profesorica na Sveučilištu Szeged u Mađarskoj i pomoćna profesorica na Medicinskom fakultetu Perelman Sveučilišta u Pennsylvaniji.

Weissman je profesor istraživanja cjepiva na Perelmanu.

Kariko je pronašla način kako spriječiti imunološki sustav da pokrene upalnu reakciju protiv laboratorijski napravljene mRNA, koja se prije smatrala glavnom preprekom bilo kakvoj terapijskoj upotrebi mRNA.

Zajedno s Weissmanom, pokazala je 2005. da prilagodbe nukleozida, molekularnih slova koja ispisuju genetski kod mRNA, mogu držati mRNA ispod radara imunološkog sustava.

"Dakle, ovogodišnja Nobelova nagrada odaje priznanje njihovom temeljnom znanstvenom otkriću koje je iz temelja promijenilo naše shvaćanje interakcije mRNA s imunološkim sustavom i imalo veliki utjecaj na društvo tijekom nedavne pandemije", rekao je Rickard Sandberg, član Nobelovog odbora na Institutu Karolinska.

Nagrada za medicinu započinje ovogodišnju dodjelu, a preostalih pet Nobelovih nagrada bit će predstavljeno u narednim danima.

Prošlogodišnju nagradu za medicinu dobio je Šveđanin Svante Paabo za sekvencioniranje genoma neandertalca, izumrlog rođaka današnjeg čovjeka, te za otkriće dosad nepoznatog ljudskog srodnika, Denisovaca.

Znanstvenici Katalin Kariko i Drew Weissman iz Mađarske i Sjedinjenih Država osvojili su Nobelovu nagradu za fiziologiju i medicinu za otkrića koja su omogućila razvoj mRNA cjepiva protiv covida-19, objavio je u ponedjeljak Nobelov odbor.

Nagradu, među najprestižnijima u znanstvenom svijetu, odabrao je Nobelov odbor švedskog medicinskog sveučilišta Karolinska Institute, a uključuje i 11 milijuna švedskih kruna (oko 950 tisuća eura).

"Nobelova nagrada za fiziologiju i medicinu za 2023. dodijeljena je Katalin Kariko i Drewu Weissmanu za njihova otkrića u vezi s modifikacijama nukleozidnih baza koje su omogućile razvoj učinkovitih mRNA cjepiva protiv covida-19", objavio je odbor.

Kariko je bila viša potpredsjednica i voditeljica odjela RNA proteina u BioNTechu do 2022., a od tada djeluje kao savjetnica tvrtke. Također je profesorica na Sveučilištu Szeged u Mađarskoj i pomoćna profesorica na Medicinskom fakultetu Perelman Sveučilišta u Pennsylvaniji.

Weissman je profesor istraživanja cjepiva na Perelmanu.

Kariko je pronašla način kako spriječiti imunološki sustav da pokrene upalnu reakciju protiv laboratorijski napravljene mRNA, koja se prije smatrala glavnom preprekom bilo kakvoj terapijskoj upotrebi mRNA.

Zajedno s Weissmanom, pokazala je 2005. da prilagodbe nukleozida, molekularnih slova koja ispisuju genetski kod mRNA, mogu držati mRNA ispod radara imunološkog sustava.

"Dakle, ovogodišnja Nobelova nagrada odaje priznanje njihovom temeljnom znanstvenom otkriću koje je iz temelja promijenilo naše shvaćanje interakcije mRNA s imunološkim sustavom i imalo veliki utjecaj na društvo tijekom nedavne pandemije", rekao je Rickard Sandberg, član Nobelovog odbora na Institutu Karolinska.

Nagrada za medicinu započinje ovogodišnju dodjelu, a preostalih pet Nobelovih nagrada bit će predstavljeno u narednim danima.

Prošlogodišnju nagradu za medicinu dobio je Šveđanin Svante Paabo za sekvencioniranje genoma neandertalca, izumrlog rođaka današnjeg čovjeka, te za otkriće dosad nepoznatog ljudskog srodnika, Denisovaca.

Mađarici i Amerikancu Nobel za medicinu za rad na cjepivu protiv covida-19

Znanstvenici Katalin Kariko i Drew Weissman iz Mađarske i Sjedinjenih Država osvojili su Nobelovu nagradu za fiziologiju i medicinu za otkrića koja su omogućila razvoj mRNA cjepiva protiv covida-19, objavio je u ponedjeljak Nobelov odbor.

Nagradu, među najprestižnijima u znanstvenom svijetu, odabrao je Nobelov odbor švedskog medicinskog sveučilišta Karolinska Institute, a uključuje i 11 milijuna švedskih kruna (oko 950 tisuća eura).

"Nobelova nagrada za fiziologiju i medicinu za 2023. dodijeljena je Katalin Kariko i Drewu Weissmanu za njihova otkrića u vezi s modifikacijama nukleozidnih baza koje su omogućile razvoj učinkovitih mRNA cjepiva protiv covida-19", objavio je odbor.

Kariko je bila viša potpredsjednica i voditeljica odjela RNA proteina u BioNTechu do 2022., a od tada djeluje kao savjetnica tvrtke. Također je profesorica na Sveučilištu Szeged u Mađarskoj i pomoćna profesorica na Medicinskom fakultetu Perelman Sveučilišta u Pennsylvaniji.

Weissman je profesor istraživanja cjepiva na Perelmanu.

Kariko je pronašla način kako spriječiti imunološki sustav da pokrene upalnu reakciju protiv laboratorijski napravljene mRNA, koja se prije smatrala glavnom preprekom bilo kakvoj terapijskoj upotrebi mRNA.

Zajedno s Weissmanom, pokazala je 2005. da prilagodbe nukleozida, molekularnih slova koja ispisuju genetski kod mRNA, mogu držati mRNA ispod radara imunološkog sustava.

"Dakle, ovogodišnja Nobelova nagrada odaje priznanje njihovom temeljnom znanstvenom otkriću koje je iz temelja promijenilo naše shvaćanje interakcije mRNA s imunološkim sustavom i imalo veliki utjecaj na društvo tijekom nedavne pandemije", rekao je Rickard Sandberg, član Nobelovog odbora na Institutu Karolinska.

Nagrada za medicinu započinje ovogodišnju dodjelu, a preostalih pet Nobelovih nagrada bit će predstavljeno u narednim danima.

Prošlogodišnju nagradu za medicinu dobio je Šveđanin Svante Paabo za sekvencioniranje genoma neandertalca, izumrlog rođaka današnjeg čovjeka, te za otkriće dosad nepoznatog ljudskog srodnika, Denisovaca.
