Vijesti o manjincima na najvišim političkim dužnostima na Otoku i oko njega već odavno nisu senzacije. Nakon Rishija Sunaka na britanskoj (njegovi su pandžabskih korijena) te Lea Varadkara na irskoj (otac mu je podrijetlom iz Bombaja), došao je red i na Humzu Yousafa na škotskoj premijerskoj poziciji (dijete je prve generacije migranata iz Pakistana i Kenije).

Nakon što je preuzeo kormilo Škotske nacionalne stranke kao prvi musliman u povijesti, ovaj 37-godišnjak je rutinski postao i škotski prvi ministar, na krilima raznolikih iskustava ranijih mandata na čelu resora pravosuđa, prometa i zdravstva. Još u kabinetu stranačke kolegice i prethodnice Nicole Surgeon slovio je za vrlo uglađenog komunikatora sposobnog osigurati produljenje dogovorno-koalicijske vlasti sa škotskim Zelenima, te ga je za nasljednika dosadašnje premijerke podupro gotovo cijeli partijski establišment.

Yousaf je kao neučinkovit ministar mahom bio žestoko i redovito kritiziran od konkurentskih laburista, a na samome početku karijere susretao se i s nerijetkim rasističkim osporavanjima. Kasnije je borbu protiv rasizma i diskriminacije pretvorio u svoju profitabilnu političku agendu. Školovao se u privatnoj školi u Glasgowu koju je istodobno pohađao i vođa škotskih laburista Anas Sarwar. Nakon studija politologije zaposlio se u parlamentu te potom po stranačkim lijanama brzopotezno napredovao na raznim javnim dužnostima.

Na dužnosti ministra pravosuđa zapamćen je kao inicijator prijedloga zakona o zločinima iz mržnje koji nije baš blistavo prošao: zaglibio je u javnim kontroverzama zbog straha da bi novo kazneno djelo ‘raspirivanja mržnje‘ imalo štetni utjecaj na slobodu govora, pa su ga osporavali i time da bi doveo do kažnjavanja knjižničara u bibliotekama ako bi im se pronašle ikakve sporne knjige na policama.

Novi premijer sa suprugom i kćerima

Yousaf je kao dosadašnji državni činovnik bio jako sklon javnim i medijskim gafovima, ali mu očito nisu puno naštetili. Jednom je, pozdravljajući u Glasgowu od rata izbjegle Ukrajinke, žene prostodušno upitao ‘gdje su im muškarci‘, a tijekom pandemije izazvao je i nepotrebnu javnu uzbunu neprovjerenom tvrdnjom da je desetero djece moralo biti hospitalizirano zbog Covida.

Sa svojom suprugom Nadiom, također škotskom ‘hadezeovkom‘, svojedobno je tužio dječji vrtić za diskriminaciju jer im je navodno pri pokušaju upisa bilo rečeno da nema mjesta za njihovu kćer, dok su istodobno primali djecu s ‘bijelim škotskim imenima‘. Naposljetku su Yousafi ipak odustali od ove tužbe teške oko 30 tisuća funti, a uprava vrtića se naknadno javno žalila da je morala nepotrebno potrošiti desetke tisuća istih novčanica na obranu od njihovih lažnih tvrdnji.

Vijesti o manjincima na najvišim političkim dužnostima na Otoku i oko njega već odavno nisu senzacije. Nakon Rishija Sunaka na britanskoj (njegovi su pandžabskih korijena) te Lea Varadkara na irskoj (otac mu je podrijetlom iz Bombaja), došao je red i na Humzu Yousafa na škotskoj premijerskoj poziciji (dijete je prve generacije migranata iz Pakistana i Kenije).

Nakon što je preuzeo kormilo Škotske nacionalne stranke kao prvi musliman u povijesti, ovaj 37-godišnjak je rutinski postao i škotski prvi ministar, na krilima raznolikih iskustava ranijih mandata na čelu resora pravosuđa, prometa i zdravstva. Još u kabinetu stranačke kolegice i prethodnice Nicole Surgeon slovio je za vrlo uglađenog komunikatora sposobnog osigurati produljenje dogovorno-koalicijske vlasti sa škotskim Zelenima, te ga je za nasljednika dosadašnje premijerke podupro gotovo cijeli partijski establišment.

Yousaf je kao neučinkovit ministar mahom bio žestoko i redovito kritiziran od konkurentskih laburista, a na samome početku karijere susretao se i s nerijetkim rasističkim osporavanjima. Kasnije je borbu protiv rasizma i diskriminacije pretvorio u svoju profitabilnu političku agendu. Školovao se u privatnoj školi u Glasgowu koju je istodobno pohađao i vođa škotskih laburista Anas Sarwar. Nakon studija politologije zaposlio se u parlamentu te potom po stranačkim lijanama brzopotezno napredovao na raznim javnim dužnostima.

Na dužnosti ministra pravosuđa zapamćen je kao inicijator prijedloga zakona o zločinima iz mržnje koji nije baš blistavo prošao: zaglibio je u javnim kontroverzama zbog straha da bi novo kazneno djelo ‘raspirivanja mržnje‘ imalo štetni utjecaj na slobodu govora, pa su ga osporavali i time da bi doveo do kažnjavanja knjižničara u bibliotekama ako bi im se pronašle ikakve sporne knjige na policama.

Yousaf je kao dosadašnji državni činovnik bio jako sklon javnim i medijskim gafovima, ali mu očito nisu puno naštetili. Jednom je, pozdravljajući u Glasgowu od rata izbjegle Ukrajinke, žene prostodušno upitao ‘gdje su im muškarci‘, a tijekom pandemije izazvao je i nepotrebnu javnu uzbunu neprovjerenom tvrdnjom da je desetero djece moralo biti hospitalizirano zbog Covida.

Sa svojom suprugom Nadiom, također škotskom ‘hadezeovkom‘, svojedobno je tužio dječji vrtić za diskriminaciju jer im je navodno pri pokušaju upisa bilo rečeno da nema mjesta za njihovu kćer, dok su istodobno primali djecu s ‘bijelim škotskim imenima‘. Naposljetku su Yousafi ipak odustali od ove tužbe teške oko 30 tisuća funti, a uprava vrtića se naknadno javno žalila da je morala nepotrebno potrošiti desetke tisuća istih novčanica na obranu od njihovih lažnih tvrdnji.
