Tijekom intervjua s Candace Owens iz Daily Wirea ovog tjedna, Trump je upitan zašto nije uspio izdati pomilovanja suosnivaču WikiLeaksa Assangeu i zviždaču Agencije za nacionalnu sigurnost (NSA) Snowdenu, za što su se aktivisti zalagali u posljednjim mjesecima predsjednikove vlasti . "Imate dvije strane toga", rekao je Trump. Opisao je njihove odvojene situacije kao “neku vrstu špijunskog posla” i “netko tko razotkriva stvarnu korupciju”, ali ne navodeći koji se opis odnosi na koju osobu, zaključivši samo da suosjeća “malo više za jednog nego drugog.”

Medijski izvještaji ranije ove godine naznačili su da su Trumpa suradnici uvjerili da će pomilovanje Assangea ili Snowdena uznemiriti republikance u Senatu, koji su se u to vrijeme pripremali za glasovanje u njegovom suđenju za opoziv. Također se činilo da je u jednom trenutku negativno spominjao Assangea i "špijuniranje", iako nije precizirao.

"Bilo je nekih špijunskih stvari, a objavljene su i neke loše stvari koje su nas stvarno vratile unatrag i povrijedile nas onim što su učinili", rekao je. Navodno je tijekom uvodnih faza Assangeova saslušanja o izručenju prošle godine novinaru ponuđeno pomilovanje u zamjenu za otkrivanje porijekla hakiranih demokratskih e-mailova poslanih tijekom predsjedničke kampanje 2016.

Bijela kuća je odbacila tu tvrdnju i rekla da je predsjednik "jedva" poznavao republikanskog kongresmena preko kojeg je dogovor navodno ponuđen. Kongresmen je pak rekao da je prijedlog dao na vlastitu inicijativu i da ga Bijela kuća nije podržala. Trump je rekao da je na kraju odlučio pustiti da se to pitanje rješava u sudnici. "Pretpostavljam da sudovi to zapravo rade", rekao je.

Assange se trenutno nalazi u zatvoru u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, odakle je nedavno odlučeno da može biti izručen SAD-u radi suđenja zbog optužbi za špijunažu poradi objavljivanja dokumenata povezanih s navodnim američkim ratnim zločinima tijekom kampanja u Afganistanu i Iraku. Prijeti mu do 175 godina zatvora ako bude osuđen. Njegovo psihičko i fizičko zdravlje pogoršalo se tijekom 20 mjeseci zatvora, a nedavno je doživio moždani udar.

Snowden, koji je i dalje u bijegu od SAD-a otkako je 2013. izviždao NSA zbog neustavnog špijuniranja američke javnosti, činio se vjerojatnijim kandidatom za predsjedničko pomilovanje. Bivši predsjednik je prošle godine rekao da "gleda" Snowdenov slučaj, napominjući da mnogi smatraju da s njim "nije pošteno postupano". Ova priča iznenadila je mnoge komentatore, s obzirom na to da je Trump ranije spominjao bivšeg izvođača NSA-e kao "špijuna kojeg bi trebalo pogubiti".

Tijekom intervjua s Candace Owens iz Daily Wirea ovog tjedna, Trump je upitan zašto nije uspio izdati pomilovanja suosnivaču WikiLeaksa Assangeu i zviždaču Agencije za nacionalnu sigurnost (NSA) Snowdenu, za što su se aktivisti zalagali u posljednjim mjesecima predsjednikove vlasti . "Imate dvije strane toga", rekao je Trump. Opisao je njihove odvojene situacije kao “neku vrstu špijunskog posla” i “netko tko razotkriva stvarnu korupciju”, ali ne navodeći koji se opis odnosi na koju osobu, zaključivši samo da suosjeća “malo više za jednog nego drugog.”

Medijski izvještaji ranije ove godine naznačili su da su Trumpa suradnici uvjerili da će pomilovanje Assangea ili Snowdena uznemiriti republikance u Senatu, koji su se u to vrijeme pripremali za glasovanje u njegovom suđenju za opoziv. Također se činilo da je u jednom trenutku negativno spominjao Assangea i "špijuniranje", iako nije precizirao.

Bijela kuća je odbacila tu tvrdnju i rekla da je predsjednik "jedva" poznavao republikanskog kongresmena preko kojeg je dogovor navodno ponuđen. Kongresmen je pak rekao da je prijedlog dao na vlastitu inicijativu i da ga Bijela kuća nije podržala. Trump je rekao da je na kraju odlučio pustiti da se to pitanje rješava u sudnici. "Pretpostavljam da sudovi to zapravo rade", rekao je.

Assange se trenutno nalazi u zatvoru u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu, odakle je nedavno odlučeno da može biti izručen SAD-u radi suđenja zbog optužbi za špijunažu poradi objavljivanja dokumenata povezanih s navodnim američkim ratnim zločinima tijekom kampanja u Afganistanu i Iraku. Prijeti mu do 175 godina zatvora ako bude osuđen. Njegovo psihičko i fizičko zdravlje pogoršalo se tijekom 20 mjeseci zatvora, a nedavno je doživio moždani udar.

Snowden, koji je i dalje u bijegu od SAD-a otkako je 2013. izviždao NSA zbog neustavnog špijuniranja američke javnosti, činio se vjerojatnijim kandidatom za predsjedničko pomilovanje. Bivši predsjednik je prošle godine rekao da "gleda" Snowdenov slučaj, napominjući da mnogi smatraju da s njim "nije pošteno postupano". Ova priča iznenadila je mnoge komentatore, s obzirom na to da je Trump ranije spominjao bivšeg izvođača NSA-e kao "špijuna kojeg bi trebalo pogubiti".

Tijekom intervjua s Candace Owens iz Daily Wirea ovog tjedna, Trump je upitan zašto nije uspio izdati pomilovanja suosnivaču WikiLeaksa Assangeu i zviždaču Agencije za nacionalnu sigurnost (NSA) Snowdenu, za što su se aktivisti zalagali u posljednjim mjesecima predsjednikove vlasti . "Imate dvije strane toga", rekao je Trump. Opisao je njihove odvojene situacije kao “neku vrstu špijunskog posla” i “netko tko razotkriva stvarnu korupciju”, ali ne navodeći koji se opis odnosi na koju osobu, zaključivši samo da suosjeća “malo više za jednog nego drugog.”
