Potvrđeno je da je u šumskom požaru na havajskom otoku Mauiju poginulo 93 ljudi, a strahuje se da bi broj žrtava mogao rasti, objavile su u nedjelju mjesne vlasti, dok struka i javnost propituju odgovornost nadležnih.

Sve se glasnije postavlja pitanje jesu li vlasti mogle bolje reagirati na jedan od najgorih požara u povijesti Sjedinjenih Država.

Profesionalni surfer Kai Lenny kritizirao je odgovor lokalne vlade za Washington Post.

"Nema transparentnosti... vlada nam ne govori što se događa pa nitko ne zna kako pomoći", rekao je za list u subotu.

U videu na Instagramu, Lenny je rekao da pomoću jet skija dostavlja pomoć ljudima preko mora jer su mnoge ceste zatvorene.

Savezna agencija za krizne situacije FEMA objavila je u subotu da žrtvama pomaže desetak saveznih agencija. Oko 150 zaposlenika FEMA-e, uključujući spasilačke ekipe, nalazi se već na Mauiju, a još ih stiže.

Čuju se kritike što na početku požara nisu bile oglašene sirene za uzbunu. Spasilačke napore otežava činjenica što se do Lahaine na sjeveru i jugu može doći samo jednom velikom cestom. Grad je jako teško stradao i mnoge ulice izgledaju poput ratne zone.

Prigovara se da je evakuacija možda bila naređena prekasno, po objavi na Faceboooku New York Timesa. Vlasti su bile objavile da su požari pod kontrolom.

Zapovjednik vatrogasaca Bradford Ventura rekao je na konferenciji za novinare da su se požari proširili iznenađujuće brzo i da je bilo "gotovo nemoguće" narediti evakuacije dovoljno brzo.

Guverner Mauija Josh Green priznao je da humanitarna pomoć sporo stiže jer ju je teško dopremiti na Maui s drugih otoka.

Green je naredio istragu o reakciji vlasti, po CNN-u.

Vatrogasci u međuvremenu i dalje gase požare u raznim dijelovima otoka.

Trošak ponovne izgradnje Lahaine procijenjen je na 5,5 milijardi dolara, prema FEMA-i. Više od 2200 zgrada oštećeno je ili uništeno i izgorjelo je 850 hektara šume i niskog raslinja.

Osim na zapadu Mauija, požari su izbili i na drugim dijelovima otoka kao i na susjednom otoku Havaji proširivši se brzo zbog snažnih vjetrova koji su puhali brzinom do 130 kilometara na sat.

Maui ima površinu od oko 1900 kilometara četvornih što odgovara otprilike polovici španjolskog otoka Mallorce. Posjeti ga oko dva milijuna turista na godinu.

Potvrđeno je da je u šumskom požaru na havajskom otoku Mauiju poginulo 93 ljudi, a strahuje se da bi broj žrtava mogao rasti, objavile su u nedjelju mjesne vlasti, dok struka i javnost propituju odgovornost nadležnih.

Sve se glasnije postavlja pitanje jesu li vlasti mogle bolje reagirati na jedan od najgorih požara u povijesti Sjedinjenih Država.

Profesionalni surfer Kai Lenny kritizirao je odgovor lokalne vlade za Washington Post.

"Nema transparentnosti... vlada nam ne govori što se događa pa nitko ne zna kako pomoći", rekao je za list u subotu.

U videu na Instagramu, Lenny je rekao da pomoću jet skija dostavlja pomoć ljudima preko mora jer su mnoge ceste zatvorene.

Savezna agencija za krizne situacije FEMA objavila je u subotu da žrtvama pomaže desetak saveznih agencija. Oko 150 zaposlenika FEMA-e, uključujući spasilačke ekipe, nalazi se već na Mauiju, a još ih stiže.

Čuju se kritike što na početku požara nisu bile oglašene sirene za uzbunu. Spasilačke napore otežava činjenica što se do Lahaine na sjeveru i jugu može doći samo jednom velikom cestom. Grad je jako teško stradao i mnoge ulice izgledaju poput ratne zone.

Prigovara se da je evakuacija možda bila naređena prekasno, po objavi na Faceboooku New York Timesa. Vlasti su bile objavile da su požari pod kontrolom.

Zapovjednik vatrogasaca Bradford Ventura rekao je na konferenciji za novinare da su se požari proširili iznenađujuće brzo i da je bilo "gotovo nemoguće" narediti evakuacije dovoljno brzo.

Guverner Mauija Josh Green priznao je da humanitarna pomoć sporo stiže jer ju je teško dopremiti na Maui s drugih otoka.

Green je naredio istragu o reakciji vlasti, po CNN-u.

Vatrogasci u međuvremenu i dalje gase požare u raznim dijelovima otoka.

Trošak ponovne izgradnje Lahaine procijenjen je na 5,5 milijardi dolara, prema FEMA-i. Više od 2200 zgrada oštećeno je ili uništeno i izgorjelo je 850 hektara šume i niskog raslinja.

Osim na zapadu Mauija, požari su izbili i na drugim dijelovima otoka kao i na susjednom otoku Havaji proširivši se brzo zbog snažnih vjetrova koji su puhali brzinom do 130 kilometara na sat.

Maui ima površinu od oko 1900 kilometara četvornih što odgovara otprilike polovici španjolskog otoka Mallorce. Posjeti ga oko dva milijuna turista na godinu.

Potvrđeno je da je u šumskom požaru na havajskom otoku Mauiju poginulo 93 ljudi, a strahuje se da bi broj žrtava mogao rasti, objavile su u nedjelju mjesne vlasti, dok struka i javnost propituju odgovornost nadležnih.

Sve se glasnije postavlja pitanje jesu li vlasti mogle bolje reagirati na jedan od najgorih požara u povijesti Sjedinjenih Država.

Profesionalni surfer Kai Lenny kritizirao je odgovor lokalne vlade za Washington Post.

"Nema transparentnosti... vlada nam ne govori što se događa pa nitko ne zna kako pomoći", rekao je za list u subotu.

U videu na Instagramu, Lenny je rekao da pomoću jet skija dostavlja pomoć ljudima preko mora jer su mnoge ceste zatvorene.

Savezna agencija za krizne situacije FEMA objavila je u subotu da žrtvama pomaže desetak saveznih agencija. Oko 150 zaposlenika FEMA-e, uključujući spasilačke ekipe, nalazi se već na Mauiju, a još ih stiže.
