Napokon, Toni je zaslužio ulazak u Hall of Fame puno prije, ali Amerikanci su imali neki svoj plan - tako je, na prvu, ulazak Pink Panthera u “kuću besmrtnih”, prokomentirao Božidar Božo Maljković, “otac” najslavnije i najbolje košarkaške ekipe 20. stoljeća.

Trener koji je na “mala vrata” 1986. godine došao u tadašnju Jugoplastiku, također je odavno ušao u košarkašku besmrtnost.

- Kada sam 1986. godine dolazio u Split preuzeti Jugoplastiku ni na kraj pameti mi nije bilo da će dva moja igrača u budućnosti biti članovi Hall of Fame. No, sedam dana nakon što sam došao u Split postao sam svjestan kakav materijal imam u svojim rukama. Noćima sam šetao splitskom Rivom, pušio cigaretu za cigaretom, iako nisam strastveni pušač, i razmišljao o tome. Toni Kukoč je bio nebrušeni dijamant koji je znao da je dobar igrač, ali vjerujem da mu ni na kraj pamet nije bilo da bi jednog dana mogao biti član Hall of Fame. Iako je svojim košarkaškim umijećem odskakao od svih u klubu, Kukoč je bio zadužen za nošenje torbi.

- Je, to je istina. Ja sam kao trener uvijek smatrao da te sportske torbe mora nositi najmlađi u klubu. Kako je to bio Toni, bez obzira na to što je bio najbolji, on je nosio torbe i bio za njih zadužen. Zbog toga on ima i tako duge ruke, koje su mu u konačnici puno pomogle da postane tako dobar igrač. Dakle, najbolji igrač, s najboljom perspektivom je nosio torbe i tu nije bilo pogovora. Nakon što sam otišao iz Jugoplastike postao sam trener Barcelone. I tada sam se s Tonijem i ekipom sreo u Španjolskoj i Toni mi je pobjedonosno rekao: “Znate šjor Božo, više ne nosim torbe, sada ih nosi Žan (Tabak, op.a.). Vidite koliko su mi duge ruke” - kazuje Maljković.

Kada je Toni postao svjestan svojih mogućnosti, odnosno kada je stasao kao “pravi igrač”, u pravom smislu riječi?

- On je znao da je “izvanzemaljski” talent. Međutim, tek je treće godine, od kada sam ja došao u Split, postao u pravom smislu riječi fizički fenomen. Imali smo pripreme na Igmanu i nakon što smo se spustili s Igmana, ja sam znao da će on “dodirnuti nebo”. Tada je ojačao. Znam da je imao noge tanke kao šibice i uvijek bih ga zafrkavao da te noge može prati u epruveti. Međutim, te je godine ojačao i postao je u pravom smislu riječi fizički fenomen, jer je bio jedini čovjek na svijetu koji je mogao s jednim driblingom s centra zakucati. To ja nikada ni prije, ni poslije nisam vidio. O tome sam pričao i Rajku Žeravici i prof. Aci Nikoliću. Oni mi nisu vjerovali i govorili su “Božo mi smo mislili da si ti ozbiljan čovjek”. Doveo sam ih jednom u Split, sjeo u dvoranu i zamolio Tonija: “Ajde Toni pokaži čiki Rajku i čiki Aci što možeš”. Naravno, Toni se zaletio, s centra i zakucao. Njih dvojica su ostali, otvorenih usta, sjediti u nevjerici - priča Maljković.

Iako je trenirao gomilu izvanrednih košarkaša, Božo Maljković nema dileme.

Najbolji košarkaš kojeg sam trenirao u svojoj karijeri je Toni Kukoč. Za to nema nikakve dileme. Poslije Jugoplastike trenirao sam Barcelonu i Real (jedini do sada u povijesti da je trenirao dva najtrofejnija španjolska kluba, op.a.), Limoges, Panathinaikos..., i nitko me nikada ne pita za te klubove. Svi me samo pitaju za Jugoplastiku, Tonija, Dina, Perasa, Sretu, Duška, Sobina... Jugoplastika je fenomen koji živi i koji će vječno živjeti - kazuje šjor Božo.

Kako nema dileme, tko je najbolji košarkaš kojeg je trenirao, tako nema ni dileme koji je najveći košarkaški tandem svih vremena.

- To su Toni i Dino. Njih dvojicu bi teško, ma gotovo nikako, netko mogao dobiti u utakmici dva na dva. Njih dvojica su idealni košarkaški par - zaključuje Božidar Maljković.

Toni je unaprijed znao što treba napraviti

Kukoč je strahovito inteligentan igrač bio. Ja bih njega znao pozvati s terena i s klupe mu reći što da napravi u sljedećem napadu. Međutim, on bi uvijek, unaprijed znao što ja želim i ne bi bilo potrebe da mu dodatno objašnjavam - kazuje šjor Božo.

Istini za volju, nitko me nije zvao iz SAD-a

Trenirao je neke od najboljih i najvećih europskih klubova. Pobrao je trofeja da ni sam ne zna koliko i nikada, a nikada nije trenirao neku NBA momčad.

- Istini za volju, nikada me nitko nije ni zvao. No, kada je Toni otišao u Chicago Bullse, ja sam s obitelji bio gost kod Jerryja Krausa. I on je tada rekao nešto što su prenijeli američki mediji: “Božo je trener koji može, kad god hoće, raditi u SAD-u”. To je bilo veliko priznanje i satisfakcija za moj trenerski rad. Isto je rekao i Dan Nelson, poznati američki košarkaški trener, koji je dolazio kod mene, u posjet, u Panathinaikos.

Napokon, Toni je zaslužio ulazak u Hall of Fame puno prije, ali Amerikanci su imali neki svoj plan - tako je, na prvu, ulazak Pink Panthera u “kuću besmrtnih”, prokomentirao Božidar Božo Maljković, “otac” najslavnije i najbolje košarkaške ekipe 20. stoljeća.

Trener koji je na “mala vrata” 1986. godine došao u tadašnju Jugoplastiku, također je odavno ušao u košarkašku besmrtnost.

- Kada sam 1986. godine dolazio u Split preuzeti Jugoplastiku ni na kraj pameti mi nije bilo da će dva moja igrača u budućnosti biti članovi Hall of Fame. No, sedam dana nakon što sam došao u Split postao sam svjestan kakav materijal imam u svojim rukama. Noćima sam šetao splitskom Rivom, pušio cigaretu za cigaretom, iako nisam strastveni pušač, i razmišljao o tome. Toni Kukoč je bio nebrušeni dijamant koji je znao da je dobar igrač, ali vjerujem da mu ni na kraj pamet nije bilo da bi jednog dana mogao biti član Hall of Fame. Isto vrijedi i za Dina Rađu - kazuje nam Božidar Maljković

Iako je svojim košarkaškim umijećem odskakao od svih u klubu, Kukoč je bio zadužen za nošenje torbi.

- Je, to je istina. Ja sam kao trener uvijek smatrao da te sportske torbe mora nositi najmlađi u klubu. Kako je to bio Toni, bez obzira na to što je bio najbolji, on je nosio torbe i bio za njih zadužen. Zbog toga on ima i tako duge ruke, koje su mu u konačnici puno pomogle da postane tako dobar igrač. Dakle, najbolji igrač, s najboljom perspektivom je nosio torbe i tu nije bilo pogovora. Nakon što sam otišao iz Jugoplastike postao sam trener Barcelone. I tada sam se s Tonijem i ekipom sreo u Španjolskoj i Toni mi je pobjedonosno rekao: “Znate šjor Božo, više ne nosim torbe, sada ih nosi Žan (Tabak, op.a.). Vidite koliko su mi duge ruke” - kazuje Maljković.

Kada je Toni postao svjestan svojih mogućnosti, odnosno kada je stasao kao “pravi igrač”, u pravom smislu riječi?

- On je znao da je “izvanzemaljski” talent. Međutim, tek je treće godine, od kada sam ja došao u Split, postao u pravom smislu riječi fizički fenomen. Imali smo pripreme na Igmanu i nakon što smo se spustili s Igmana, ja sam znao da će on “dodirnuti nebo”. Tada je ojačao. Znam da je imao noge tanke kao šibice i uvijek bih ga zafrkavao da te noge može prati u epruveti. Međutim, te je godine ojačao i postao je u pravom smislu riječi fizički fenomen, jer je bio jedini čovjek na svijetu koji je mogao s jednim driblingom s centra zakucati. To ja nikada ni prije, ni poslije nisam vidio. O tome sam pričao i Rajku Žeravici i prof. Aci Nikoliću. Oni mi nisu vjerovali i govorili su “Božo mi smo mislili da si ti ozbiljan čovjek”. Doveo sam ih jednom u Split, sjeo u dvoranu i zamolio Tonija: “Ajde Toni pokaži čiki Rajku i čiki Aci što možeš”. Naravno, Toni se zaletio, s centra i zakucao. Njih dvojica su ostali, otvorenih usta, sjediti u nevjerici - priča Maljković.

Iako je trenirao gomilu izvanrednih košarkaša, Božo Maljković nema dileme.

Najbolji košarkaš kojeg sam trenirao u svojoj karijeri je Toni Kukoč. Za to nema nikakve dileme. Poslije Jugoplastike trenirao sam Barcelonu i Real (jedini do sada u povijesti da je trenirao dva najtrofejnija španjolska kluba, op.a.), Limoges, Panathinaikos..., i nitko me nikada ne pita za te klubove. Svi me samo pitaju za Jugoplastiku, Tonija, Dina, Perasa, Sretu, Duška, Sobina... Jugoplastika je fenomen koji živi i koji će vječno živjeti - kazuje šjor Božo.

Kako nema dileme, tko je najbolji košarkaš kojeg je trenirao, tako nema ni dileme koji je najveći košarkaški tandem svih vremena.

- To su Toni i Dino. Njih dvojicu bi teško, ma gotovo nikako, netko mogao dobiti u utakmici dva na dva. Njih dvojica su idealni košarkaški par - zaključuje Božidar Maljković.

Toni je unaprijed znao što treba napraviti

Kukoč je strahovito inteligentan igrač bio. Ja bih njega znao pozvati s terena i s klupe mu reći što da napravi u sljedećem napadu. Međutim, on bi uvijek, unaprijed znao što ja želim i ne bi bilo potrebe da mu dodatno objašnjavam - kazuje šjor Božo.

Istini za volju, nitko me nije zvao iz SAD-a

Trenirao je neke od najboljih i najvećih europskih klubova. Pobrao je trofeja da ni sam ne zna koliko i nikada, a nikada nije trenirao neku NBA momčad.

- Istini za volju, nikada me nitko nije ni zvao. No, kada je Toni otišao u Chicago Bullse, ja sam s obitelji bio gost kod Jerryja Krausa. I on je tada rekao nešto što su prenijeli američki mediji: “Božo je trener koji može, kad god hoće, raditi u SAD-u”. To je bilo veliko priznanje i satisfakcija za moj trenerski rad. Isto je rekao i Dan Nelson, poznati američki košarkaški trener, koji je dolazio kod mene, u posjet, u Panathinaikos.

Napokon, Toni je zaslužio ulazak u Hall of Fame puno prije, ali Amerikanci su imali neki svoj plan - tako je, na prvu, ulazak Pink Panthera u “kuću besmrtnih”, prokomentirao Božidar Božo Maljković, “otac” najslavnije i najbolje košarkaške ekipe 20. stoljeća.

Trener koji je na “mala vrata” 1986. godine došao u tadašnju Jugoplastiku, također je odavno ušao u košarkašku besmrtnost.

- Kada sam 1986. godine dolazio u Split preuzeti Jugoplastiku ni na kraj pameti mi nije bilo da će dva moja igrača u budućnosti biti članovi Hall of Fame.
